"You're cursed, Jack. Everything you touch, one way or another, ends up dead." And you thought your girlfriend's dad was tough. I wish I hadn't seen William Devane's name in the opening credits, simply because there are so few good surprises left in the world. A sudden appearance by the guy we last saw plummeting off a cliff would have made for an especially fun one. Still, his overprotective father turned stone-cold badass routine pretty much rocked my world… because, hey, if we don't soon crank up Jack's self-loathing to "nothing left to lose," how are we gonna make the last three hours of the day go all crazy kablooey? Speaking of which, I'm guessing that's what the whole Morris-Chloe breakup is about. It's taken all damn day, but surely a broken heart is what it's gonna take to revive the surly, snarky, surprisingly-handy-with-an-automatic-weapon CTU tech we all know and love. I know you're in there, Chloe! I know what they did to you — dyed your hair, softened your hard edges, gave you a lackluster story line about Morris' drinking problem — and I promise you, I'm going to make them pay. Just give me some sign you can hear me…. And on that note, what does it say about me that I've never liked Audrey more than when she's a babbling loony? Hospital gown, torture marks, a thousand-yard stare and the occasional critical piece of intel — "Bloomfield!" — it's all very endearing. Plus, you have to feel for a girl whose romantic psychological breakthrough gets interrupted by a blow torch-wielding SWAT team. It's prom night all over again.

Just in case you forgot, we do still have the small matter of a potential World War III brewing — China's got the magic Russian nuke component, Russia's none too happy about it, and we're doing the best song-and-dance we can to keep things calm. The big question: Who's Cheng going to find with the "necessary expertise" to fix the damaged circuit board? Perhaps a lovelorn computer dynamo with a head for gadgets and a flair for sarcasm? I hope so, because this touchy-feely routine over at CTU is ringing a little false for me at the moment. I know I should be in Doyle's corner by now, what with brow-beating Nadia into doing her job and letting Jack spoon him unconscious, but it's tough to feel much for all these newbies. Aside from Chloe, Buchanan was really our last familiar face from the CTU of old…. Thanks a lot, Karen.

Meanwhile over at the White House, I'm incredibly relieved that Daniels discovered the real deal with Lisa Miller so quickly, if only because that means we're spared from watching him whisper sweet nothings in her ear. (I've been taking industrial strength showers since last week, and I still can't get the ick off me.) As for her other boyfriend, do you think Michael Shanks has it in his contract that he must appear in some state of undress at all times? Looks like Mr. SG-1's been working out.

Watching Heller rip Jack a new one was quite fun. And I really do hope the Chloe/Morris melodrama ends with her returning to her snarky roots.

I've never liked Audrey more than when she's a babbling loony

Haha! Nice to see that I'm not the only one who hates her. Too bad Nina isn't around to eliminate her.

Two hours on the job and Daniels already has a Clinton-like problem with Lisa. Too bad Nina isn't around to eliminate her.:-p

The Jack-Heller moment was pretty terrific. The look on Jack's face - I really felt for him.

The writers have put Chloe in a box all season - I'm ready for her to push her way out. Just let the Chinese try to take her on! They'll be sorry!

Hey - let's remember that it was actually Tom Lennox who told the Daniels about Lisa. And it's a credit to him that, in spite of his problems with Tom, Daniels told him about his relationship with her. And he was willing to go along with doing whatever was necessary to get the "situation" under control. Revenge? Probably - and served cold, at that!

First of all, why all the hate directed at Audrey? She risked her life (and, apparently, her mind) to try to find Jack in China. You all seem to be stuck thinking about her as she was in the old days when she was relatively useless. Cut her some slack!

When Morris joined CTU late last season, I was hoping his colorful personality and rapport with Chloe would provide some lighter moments this year ("lighter" moments being relative on this show). But it's been tough to watch Morris, whom I like, to have such an awful day, topped with the devasting comment from Chloe.
I feel bad for both of them. But I would like to see Chloe's old scowl again--or with a semi-automatic in her hands.

i guess its me...i was really pissed at hellers reaction.
what a short memory he has, not only did jack serve him as trusty bodyguard for years, but he only saved his and everybody's life like 10 times...
he acted like it was some kid that took his daughter out on a first date.
all wrong.......

Audrey grew on me last season when she was helping run CTU all day. Her first season, she cried too much, and she grated on my nerves. But last season, she wasn't nearly as wimpy and she was fine. I just wonder where they would have gone this season had The Nine not been prematurely canceled (RIP) and Kim Raver hadn't been available. This whole season smacks of, "Hey, Kim Raver's available, how can we use her now?"

Great8:

Yes, Audrey was very helpful to CTU throughout last season--exactly my point. I think Kim Raver leaving to be on the ill-fated "The Nine" (I liked that one, too) posed a bit of a problem for "24", because I suspect the writers would have preferred that she stay on as Audrey. I'm sure they were relieved that she became available again, and had to fit her into the current story somehow--but she doesn't have much time to get back to her old self. I wouldn't want to see her drooling and babbling incoherently for the remainder of the season.

And I really winced at Heller's parting words to Jack. I thought I had seen him at his lowest possible point before, but this one--from an emotional/psychological point of view--seems like his absolute lowest.

And I wonder where Chloe disappeared to. She must be feeling so awful. We've never really seen that side of her before.

You mean to tell me that they can't find the trails of a few black Hummers roaming around in the dark? Give me a break! Doyle, alone even, finds Jack in a small Toyota in a matter of minutes but yet CTU with the Satellites can't find the Chinese.

I can't remember ever seeing Chloe cry before, except maybe when the beloved Edgar died. But the old Chloe we know and love is fixin' to spread her wings. Give this woman an assault weapon!

Now that Morris is out of the picture and if Audrey doesn't come back from Crazytown, Chloe and Jack could become the cutest, most badass CTU agent couple ever.

Milo...what a putz. If he saw the way Nadia looked at Doyle, he'd have plenty more to be jealous about.

First I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed watching Doyle go against Nadia. He has temporarily redeemed himself in my eyes.

And while I was jumping for joy to see Secretary Heller return, my elation was short lived when he stepped into that room and ripped Jack a new one. I agree with you JIMMY that really ticked me off!

I feel ya Gary B...bring on some love for Audrey already..she might be the thing to spark Jack into some last avenging action. (plus she had a really cute coat last season--even when bloody--:-p)
I can't believe it is only 3 hours left! Seems like an hour ago Jack was biting someone's throat off...
Cant wait to see what they will make of the end..i would hate to see one of my favorite shows blow out of steam

Redemption seems to be the word for last nights episode. I feel much better about Doyle - he redeemed himself to me and Jack of course by allowing the "right" thing to happen!

The VP redeemed himself by figuring out that the woman wetting his whistle was not all that! It was also nice to hear about his wife - who had died. I had seen the VP's wedding band earlier and had him figured for a cheater!

Even Nadia finally pulled her head out of her proverbial ass!

Okay everyone - who from CTU is going to be the next to be abducted, tortured and forced to perform intellectual acts against the country? Cloe - maybe a repeat of Morris, how about Milo?

Whole epsiode = eh..blah...

Doyle & Nadia are gonna hook up - just do it already.

Milo's gonna go cry about Nadi & Doyle hooking up.

Chloe's already crying so she'll find solace in a weeping Milo.

I was hoping Heller would stop by...damn that was anti-climactic. You died the last time we saw you..let's not talk about that. No way he's that much of a prick to Jack after all that happened last season. No no no, I cannot buy that.

I'm not even avoiding the previews anymore...is it gonna get interesting again? nope not looking good.

Hopefully we get something in these last weeks (hours) to restore 24's glory.

I was bored -

I'm with you jimmy, with all Jack has done for Heller, Audrey, CTU, heck - the whole darn country, he should be kissing Jack's butt (everyone should be)!

ETA: By the way, love seeing "Daniel Jackson" in his almost birthday suit!
