Rod's Odds and Ends
Hi Blog Buddies! Work has been crazy again, but it's finally settling down and life is getting back to normal. I've managed to catch up on a lot of shows that I was behind on. Here are my quick thoughts on a wide variety of things. (I've split them up by show so folks can avoid possible spoilers for eps that have already aired if theyd like.)
In no particular order...
Jericho
As thrilled as I am that Jericho was successfully resurrected for a second season, I have to admit that I'm not really loving this season's focus on conspiracy/revolution at the expense of the character/personal stories of the town's residents. I miss the personal and emotional dramas from the townsfolk that we came to know and love last year.
R.I.P. Bonnie Richmond. You will be dearly missed; but damn, girl, you went out like a champ. (She took down four Ravenwood mercs with her shotgun before going on to join her parents in the great beyond.) Coolest girl-power moment of the season!
I fear that this season's ratings aren't going to be enough to bring Jericho back for a third season, so I'm really hoping that the show gives us a terrific finale (with no big cliffhangers).
Supernatural
Is there any better news than the news that the show has already been renewed for Season Four??!!
Yep, there is: Ellen is coming back in the season finale (per the Sera Gamble interview). Whoo-hoo!!
Btw... Jensen Ackles and I are less than 6 months apart in age. Destiny? I'm just sayin'.
Battlestar Galactica
If you haven't seen BSG's, "What the Frak?" recap video yet, then you should definitely check it out. It's 8 minutes long; but it's totally worth it. I promise.
Season four promotional pictures have been circulating. It's good stuff. You can see some of them here, here, and here.
Could Tricia Helfer be any hotter?
Lost
Overall, I think Lost has been amazing so far this season.
Personally, I don't believe that either Aaron or Ben are part of the Oceanic 6. I'm holding out hope that the final two are Sun and Jin. (Of course, I'm also hoping that Rose, Bernard, Alex, Karl, Denise, Juliet, Penny, Desmond and Vincent are all alive somewhere else too just not part of the Oceanic 6.)
I love that the Penny/Desmond romance literally transcends time and space. I'm really hoping that the show reunites them (happily) before all is said and done.
American Idol
America, can we please get rid of Amanda Overmyer, Chikezie, and Luke Menard before the Final 12?? Please??
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
This show's first season took some time to catch on with me, but once the character of Derrek Reese (Brian Austin Green) was introduced the show entered a new level of awesomeness. I know the ratings haven't been stellar, but I hope that FOX brings the show back for a second season.
MI-5
At long last, BBC-America is going to play season 3 of MI-5 (Spooks). It's about bloody time. Episodes begin again this March 12th.
Eli Stone
Is anybody else watching Eli Stone? It's actually quite good in its own unique way.
I loved the shout-out to Veronica Mars in last week's ep.
In Treatment
Although it's somewhat of a time commitment (5 eps a week), In Treatment continues to be damn fine television. Terrific acting and writing.
Kyle XY
I'm really looking forward to what happens in these last three episodes of the season. Ally Sheedy as Jessi's mom was a perfect casting choice. Hopefully she'll give Brian Taylor the smackdown he truly deserves.
Why can't we have Tom Foss back?
Other Thoughts
I miss my Friday nights in Dillon Texas. If I can't go back there next fall, I will enter a severe depression.
I now have to add No Country For Old Men to my "must-read-before-I-see-the-movie" list.
I wasn't particularly impressed with either Unhitched or New Amsterdam. I'm undecided if I'll give them another shot or not. What did other folks think?
I don't watch Moment of Truth, but I am secretly glad that the woman who was willing to sacrifice her marriage for money ended up losing both her marriage and the money... and her dignity too.

Hi there, Rod! Here are my answers to your questions...
Doubtful! Must be. For the sake of average women everywhere, I sure hope not. My fingers are crossed. Nope, sorry. Too much Adam now, I imagine. I liked New Amsterdam enough to watch more.
Get all that?

Hi Rod!
First of all, I have to say I was literally jumping up and down when I heard about Supernatural's season 4. I had no doubts it would be renewed, I was even more confident than last year, but it's still great to know now and not have to wait another 2 months.
Kyle XY - I'm loving this season. And I was very excited to see that Ally Sheedy was cast as Sarah. She's perfect for the part, if I had been casting the part I would have chosen her. And I would also love to see Foss again, I miss him.
LOST - I somehow missed recording this last week, so I'll have to make sure I don't miss the replay this week at 8. But I love this season. I really like how they're tying in the flash-forwards and slowly revealing what happens in the future.
New Amsterdam - While this premiere may not have been amazing I still think it has potential. I'm going to give it at least a couple more chances. I like the idea for the premise (though I hear the book it bears a resemblance to is way better). I think it will be better if they play up the immortality aspect so it doesn't become just another crime drama.

Hi Rod,
I thought of you when I read that Samantha Ferris would be coming back for an episode of Supernatural. I bet you were happy dancing all around.
I'm so, so glad that Supernatural has been renewed for Season Four. It's just the most wonderful news.
Sooooooo, you and Jensen are six months apart eh? I just have to ask, whose the olderman?
A girl at work is a big fan of Friday Night Lights, she just adores it and she asked me if it would be coming back. I myself don't watch it, but I know you do and enjoy it too and I was wondering if you could please let me know what the most recent news is so that I could let her know. Thanks so much Rod.

Hi Rob,
It's always a treat to get a blog from you these days. Welcome back.
I sent CW an e-mail thanking them for renewing Supernatural now and not giving us anxiety attacks until this season is over. And, yes, I thought of you too when I read that Ellen will be back for the finale. I still haven't forgiven Sera Gamble for killing off Agent Henricksen (if he is indeed really dead), so she had better keep her grimy meat hooks off of Ellen. I'm trilled about MI-5 coming back; in fact, I'm planning on doing a blog today about it with interlinks to BBC America and the Spooks web site with the episode guide.
Lost has been amazing this season, the best since Season 1. Last week's episode was a real mind twister capped off with a moving and romantic "reunion" between Penny and Desmond. I also hope they end up united by the end of the series.
I've been up and down with In Treatment. Sometimes the patients are so obnoxious, I want to stop watching it, but I've stuck it out. Last night's episode with Alex was particularly mesmerizing. To see Blair Underwood go from the charming Mr. Harris on the New Adventures of Old Christine sitcom to this troubled soul is amazing. It's criminal how underused this great actor is.
I've been enjoying Eli Stone very much, and I hope it's brought back next season.
I liked last night's pilot of New Amsterdam, and I should think it will get better as it goes along. As a history buff, I'd like to see more historical flashbacks and less crime procedure.

Hiya Rod!!
Let me get my S4 squee out of the way first: WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*cough* Okay. Yes! Ellen returns!
T:SCC: LOVE IT! Wasn't sure if I would at first, but it hooked me. Never was a big fan of BAG, but I really like him as Derek Reese.
New Amsterdam: I taped it, but haven't watched it yet. Maybe it will do a Moonlight & improve in the next few episodes? Speaking of Moonlight, are you going to (try) to give squeeze that one in?

Hey Rod! Jericho - I've been enjoying this season and I loved how Bonnie went down fighting last night. And did you notice? The Trickster from Supernatural was on again.
Speaking of Supernatural - How great is it that they were on the early renewal list?
Lost - I still watch but it doesn't hold my interest as much. Though it has gotten better.
Terminator - Ditto. I like Summer Glau too...every since Firefly. I'm crossing my fingers that they bring it back.
Eli Stone - *raises hand* I watch! To be honest this was one of the shows I didn't think I was going to like. But I really do like it. It's unique among all the other shows out there.
New Amsterdam - I just couldn't get into it. It felt like a retread of other vampire-cop-detective shows like Angel and Forever Knight. I'll give it at least a couple more episodes though just in case.

Hi Rod - good to see you and read your insights.
Jericho - I love this show. It has really disappointed me this year. It seems contrived and last night, I didn't finish the episode. From what you wrote maybe I should have, but it is not holding me now as a viewer.
Supernatural - Best news in a long time!
BSG - Thanks for the link.
Lost - I think this season is so exciting and so crucial to the overall story arc. By the end of May we are going to know a whole lot of stuff. I personally think the next season will be the Oceanic Six returning or trying to return to the island where many of those people will still be alive. They are not dead - the story made up by the Six that left was to protect them and we will understand why by the end of this season. I think, after reading Ausiello today, the man on the boat spying for Ben might be Michael. We'll see, huh?
Idol - I watched last night for the first time. Only one guy really seriously impressed me and it was the stripper guy. There were a few others I think singing the right thing could be good. The only guy who struck me as not good at all - and this is with no knowledge of personality or previous performances - was the guy with the purple in his hair. I don't even know there names and I am judging solely on what I saw last night.
Eli Stone - I really enjoy this show. It's nice to see a lawyer portrayed as a decent person for a change!

Hi Rod,
Good to see you blog again.
Jericho - Still think they should have done away with spoiled little rich girl instead, but totally agree with you about cheering for Bonnie when she showed her girl power. At least it was a good death.
BSG - Counting down. I'll have to check out the recap video, thanks.
AI - I didn't wait until the final 12 this year. I've been watching since Hollywood. Boys are ahead of the girls on entertainment factor for me. Hope the girls show some of that "girl power" tonight and liven things up a bit.
Terminator - I was hooked on this since day one, but I was so glad they added BAG's character. Loved when he brought John to the park for his birthday. It was so sweet when John realized the little guy was his dad. Two Tissue-worthy moment.
MI-5 - Looking foward to the return of this, but not looking forward to the continuation of Tom's crash and burn.
In Treatment - I tried this for a week, but it was too painful to watch. I'd rather stick a red hot poker in my eye.
Kyle XY - Love this show. Nothing specific to add, just love it.
FNL - *sigh* I'm with you on the missage.
New Amsterdam - I liked this show. I've written on a couple of blogs about it. Any show that can fit a Death Cab for Cutie song in it is okay by me.
Robin Hood - I know you didn't mention this show, but I'm looking forward to the return of Robin, his band of merry people, the fair Marian, but most of all the Sherrif and his fresh batch of dastardly deeds.

Btw... Jensen Ackles and I are less than 6 months apart in age. Destiny? I'm just sayin'.
Do I smell another bromance in the making?? Oh my, what will Ranger say??
Supernatural: Let me join the chorus of *squeeeeeeee* for a 4th season of SN. How awesome is that? As much as I enjoy bashing the CW, I gotta give credit where credit is due and take my hat off the the CW for doing the right thing. So YAY to them!
Kyle XY: This season is shaping up to be a great one. I love all the storylines, but the one negative for me is Jessi. I don't know if it's the character or the actress who plays her, but she's just irritating to me! I wish they could do something to make her less grating. (But maybe that's the point- she's supposed to be that way...)
Lost: Lost almost lost me last season when they killed off Charlie. I was getting so ticked at the show's habit of constantly killing off good characters that I almost stopped watching (kind of like what I did with Prison Break).
But you're right- this last episode with Desmond and Penny was nothing short of sublime. Perfect acting, writing, and overall storyline. I'm in love with Lost again.
Eli Stone: I love this show! It's got the right blend of whimsy, heart and humor. The fact that Loretta Devine (Missouri from SN) is pitch perfect as Eli's assistant is just icing on the cake.
My favorite episode so far has been the one with the coma patient who woke up. The final scene with Eli and his brother talking was wonderful. Their heart to heart conversation was as good as anything we've ever seen between the Winchester brothers. (What is it with brothers talking that just hits me in the gut??)
New Amsterdam: I recorded it, but haven't watched it yet, so I don't have an opinion yet. The premise sounds interesting, though.

Random: T:SCC...am I the only one who is totally digging the whole idea of the Reese Brothers? The flashback that Derek has of he & Kyle playing ball on Judgement Day totally brought our Winchester boys to my mind (except for the missiles, of course). Especially because Derek is the big brother.
Anyone? Okay, maybe it's just me. I can connect just about anything back to Supernatural!
