Cloverfield: Stahl-David, Lucas, Caplan
I saw Cloverfield last night, and I just wanted to state for the record that I really, really liked it.
Here's a few spoiler-free thoughts:
-- The movie did not give me a headache nor did it give me motion sickness given the "shaky cam" style.
-- The movie really is "Godzilla" meets "Blair Witch," but the merger works extremely well. It's a great film.
-- I was very impressed with the young cast: Michael Stahl-David (Black Donnellys), Lizzy Caplan (The Class), Odette Yustman (October Road), Mike Vogel (Grounded for Life), Jessica Lucas (The Covenant), and T.J. Miller (Carpoolers). I hope this film is a great springboard for them.
-- I won't comment on the storyline, since I'm keeping this strictly spoiler-free.
-- I've read quite a few negative reviews of the film (not on this site), and while reading them I couldn't help wondering if the reviewer and I had watched the same movie. To each their own of course, but I personally found the negative reviews to be way off base. (Sure, this movie isn't the next Oscar-sweeping tearjerker, nor is it the answer to every mama's-basement-fanboy's wetdream for a bloody monster flick, but it is a darn fun movie on its own.)
-- There is a something at the end of the credits, so you might want to stick around if you're so inclined.
