Eric Kripke Loves Ellen! (And I, In Turn, Love Eric Kripke)

featuredpost.jpg
Hi SnObs!
The TV Guide interview with Eric Kripke is finally up here.

Good stuff. Check it out if you haven't already read it.

My favorite part:
Kripke: "...we were breaking a story about the return of Ellen when we were forced to shut down. Hopefully, we'll still get a chance to tell that story, because I do love Ellen and think she's a fascinating character in this world."

Kripke loves Ellen, so all is right with the world.

On a different note, here's something that's puzzling me: KTMB talks about the overwhelming negative reaction to Bela's character. Um, what boards is he reading (the CW tween boards?), because I thought Bela kicked ass. Was I alone in that opinion?

ROD!!!!!!!!:-x

I like Bela too. My only real issue with her character is that she seems to have no problem outwitting Dean...a lot! Once in a while, sure, I'll buy that, but all the time?!?! Besides, Beyotch shot Sammy!!!

I loved this: By this point, my writers know that if they come in and pitch me an episode set in Seattle, my eyes start to glaze over, but if it's set in Detroit, I pay rapt attention. Now if they'd come & shoot an episode here, I could die happy!

I was really surprised the first time I read that Kripke didn't like RSaM. I liked that episode. I just hope that they don't turn Bela into the "mercenary with the heart of gold" type. Some antagonists need to stay that way! Like Gordon (RIP).

I disagree with Kripke on the idea of Jo's story being wrapped up. After the destruction of the Roadhouse & the Gate being opened, there should have been some mention of her. Even in passing, like maybe Sam asking Bobby if he's heard from her or Ellen? *shrugs* It's kind of like the mysterious whereabouts of Big Daddy's truck

I miss Ellen!!!!! Since we probably won't get to see her during this abbreviated season, I sure hope they bring her back for season 4!!!!!!!

Rod,

Yeah, Bela kicks ass, but she's such a narcissist, she ends up annoying the crap out of me. I need to find something redeemable in a character, but I haven't found it yet in her.

Of course, I'm speaking from a woman's viewpoint. I can understand what a guy would see in her.;)

I won't have time to read Matt's interview until this afternoon, but thanks for the heads-up. Kripke is the best creator, producer, showrunner in all of television. I just hope he'll be able to do his story about Ellen. She's a kick-ass hunter we women can love too.

Rod, it's not just the 'Tween' boards as you call them. There are other places that don't seem to like her. I have no problem with Bela, but I don't want her to be redeemable. She needs to stay bad. That way she's fun.

So basically, we're on for Season 4 then? It would seem to be the case.

I find Ruby much more intriguing. We're not really sure exactly who she is or what her motivations are, but it's never a mystery what Bela's motivations are.

Hey, Rod! I thought of you immediately when Kripke talked about Ellen.

I'm with you guys - I like Bela. And I also like Ruby, Jo, and the Roadhouse. I've had no problems with anyone they've brought in.

But I have seen, even on this site, many people who go on and on about hating Bela (and/or Ruby). I can't think of their reasons now but mostly, I think, it's about not seeing the point of her character or something.

And I would love to see Jo again. I can see Kripke's point but I can also see rap's point about her storyline. But regardless I'd just love to see her again and see how she's been faring as a solo hunter.

I love it when Kripke spills info - and yea to what seems to be a definite season four! :-D

but it's never a mystery what Bela's motivations are.

I beg, very politely, to differ, Marci. (Seriously, not trying to start a fight!)

After RSaM and the hint of the death of Bela's family member at her hands, intentional or not, that seems to be a hint at why she is the way she is. I know we see her being motivated by money and profit and all but I don't think we've seen what started that and that is where I'm intrigued by her.

And I'm very intrigued by Ruby and really look forward to figuring out just what her agenda truly is.

IG - I guess I'll just have to look at Bela with a more open mind. Maybe I can find at least a hint of something to like about her. We'll see.:)

I've found that Bela is not a very popular charactor especially amongst the women. I have found her to be a fun and creative way to bring in a new person to our Supernatural world but in my opinion, most women do not like her!

Hi everyone!

Rap... How the heck are ya, my Tupelo Honey? It seems like forever since we've "talked." Like you, I enjoy Bela as an antagonist, I just hope she doesn't quickly go the way of Gordon and Meg (as played by Nicki Aycox and bite the dust. I get a kick out of her interactions with Dean, and I will even admit that I suspect they will one day have hot/angry sex... and I'm ok with that. (I hope my SnOb card doesn't get revoked for saying that!)

I agree with you on Jo and Big Daddy's truck too-- they should have at least been mentioned in passing.

Marci... You have to like Bela, because the world just seems out of balance if you and I disagree about something. We're always on the same page. ;)

Lacey... Kripke seems to have been talking about Season 4 like it was a done deal/ (!!) Of course we all know that Ostroff and her Pussycat-loving minions could f-ck with us and cancel the show, but it was nice to hear Kripke talk about season 4, without feeling the need to warn us about that possibility.

IG... Like you, I enjoyed Bela, Ruby, Ellen and Jo. I haven't had a problem with any of them. I even liked Meg.

I suppose I've been too isolated in my Supernatural blogging. I don't visit the CW boards or the supernatural.tv boards anymore, and I rarely check out the main TV Guide show blog or the TWOP board since I enjoy it here so much... so I haven't been in the loop on all of the Ruby/Bela-bashing. I guess that's my fault.

Ranger...
I have found her to be a fun and creative way...

And sexy too! ;)

Ok, Rod, just for you I'll try to find something about Bela I like.:)

No worries, Rod! If your card is revoked then mine will be too.

I think the only iffy person for me has been Cassie but that was only because I didn't care for the actress that much. But I liked the character. And I loved Meg - she kicked a$$ in Nicki's body or in Jared's! ;)

I'm with Idaho- I've found something to like in just about every character they've brought in. I really like both Bela and Ruby. They shake things up for the guys and create a source of tension, which opens up all sorts of character development that we wouldn't have otherwise. As much as we love all Sam and Dean all the time, without any outside influences, their characters would get stale. How does a character evolve when it has no one to bounce off of to grow?

For my money, they're both well-written and acted (well, OK, Lauren Cohen is more accomplished than Katie Cassidy, but I'm willing to cut her some slack while she's learning the ropes). And I loved BDABR- I thought it was one of the best eps this season. :)
