Tuesday Bytes: AI, Hell’s Kitchen & DWTS
I didn’t feel well enough to blog all the shows live last night. I AM having the gallbladder out tomorrow and I’m very excited. I’m so miserable in fact, I was tempted to tell the surgeon yesterday to just hit me over the head with a shovel and jerk it out there in the office. Seems that he wants to do it the right way though. I should be back home and ready to go again early next week…thanks again for the support!
AI: Neil Diamond Week
I was bored out of my mind…until Paula saved the day by having a massive meltdown that is the talk of the cable news networks this morning. I thought that two people stood out: David Archuleta and Syesha. I liked David Cook’s second song (and you guys know he’s my favorite). Brook and Jason need to go home now.
The format of the show last night was insane. The judges were held to one quick comment on each person after they had all sung their first song. Then they would critique each singer individually after their last song.
Paula didn’t get the note. She started with Jason Castro and not only critiqued his first song, but his second which he hadn’t performed yet. Now, in defense of Paula, I believe that the judges observe the rehearsal run through so she might have been making notes of that. But she admitted thinking that she’d heard him sing two songs. The audience laughed a little but I was uncomfortable.
Who do I think will be in the bottom two (if they have a bottom two?)
I’d say Jason and Brooke deserve to be there but I think it will be Jason and Syesha. Who will go home? It should be Jason or Brooke but I think it will finally be Syesha (a fact that Simon stated last night, based on previous lack of fan support).
Hell’s Kitchen: Pizza!
Hell’s Kitchen is getting more interesting as we get to know the contestants a bit better. The girl who burned her hand so badly last week opted to go home. She felt that she’d hurt the team not being able to use but one hand.
Jen continued to impress Chef Ramsay. It was her pizza that won a early contest between the men and women (although if Ben had properly washed his mushrooms the guys might have pulled it out). Unfortunately, Jen continues to impress Jen and that is hard to take.
Both groups finished their dinner service for the first time which was amazing to see. Chef Ramsay didn’t pick a losing team but told the guys and girls to go upstairs and each pick one person for elimination. The girls picked Rosann who tanked during the meal. The guys went after Louross. But just before they went downstairs, Jen maneuvered the other girls to go after Christina, who she felt is a bigger threat to herself. The only time Jen looked uncomfortable during the show was when Ramsay asked her if she felt threatened by Christina and that’s why they put her up.
He wasn’t happy and Jen knew it. He didn’t seem happy with Louross’ nomination either. Luckily for both people, since the injured contestant had already left, no one had to leave last night.
Jen needs to watch out. Christina isn’t happy.

Dancing With the Stars
Well, it looks like Derek & Shannon’s little nasty meltdown over some critique by the judges cost them the game last night. They were sent packing and both looked like they expected it. We may also be seeing the end of Marissa. In spite of dancing very well, she ended up in the bottom two.
I think now that the final two will be Kristi and Jason. I still think Kristi will take home the ugly trophy.
Oh, and kudos to Dance Center again last night. I LOVE those segments.
***
Thanks again for all the kind wishes and support. I hope to be back with you for real early next week!

I hope all goes well for you with the Gall Bladder removal.
AI was bad last night. I guess I'd rank them: David C, Brooke, Syesha, David A, Jason. Either Jason or Syesha will probably be going.
I wanted to eat any of the 3 pizzas, Ramsay's, the gals' pizza, and the guys' pizza.

Hi Miss Vickie. I have been loving your blogs!!
No comment on the shows from last night since I haven't seen them yet but I wanted to add my best wishes and prayers to those already expressed as you have your surgery.
I've added you to my prayer list and pray that you have a successful surgery and a quick recovery.
Of course some of that is selfish because I want you to get better quickly so I can read more of your blogging! Especially since Survivor looks like it's getting good!

I hope the surgery goes well Vickie! I'll say a prayer for you.
AI was really boring last night. David C. and Sayesha were the best in my opinion. I think Jason or Brooke needs to go home, but they probably won't.

Hi Vickie! First off ~ GOOD LUCK tomorrow and good riddance to your gallbladder! (I almost wrote gallbalder!)
For once I actually saw A I on the same night it is on. But we still ff through a lot. We usually only watch the actual singing part, Randy's comments and ff thru Poola (as Simon calls her!), and then listen to Simon's comments. But I did see what Paula said on the news this morning! I thought it was incredibly ironic that that happpened because her comment was spot on (miracle?) AND even made sense ~ That Jason is just NOT fighting to win at all. He really does seem as bored as we are when he sings. I do think he is cute and can sing pretty well but he most definitely doesn't seem to be trying very hard.
I have to admit that I actually like David Cook. In the beginning I didn't like him at all ~ But he is at least interesting. He sings well and tries to do something different with most of the songs. However ~ For his benefit ~ I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up getting voted off a bit early like Chris Daughtry ~ I think they make tons more money that way ~ Instead of A I getting it all. His hair was getting a little back to it's old ways last night. Please stop plastering it to your face on the sides. Please.
I don't really like David A at all. But I really do feel bad for him. He just doesn't seem like he is having fun at all. His father is scary. He always seems scared that the judges are going to say something bad and seems SO relieved if they say something good. I would not want to be him. He can sing but it just doesn't do anything for me. And it seems so obvious that his father picks the songs that all the old ladies will like for the popular vote. I feel really bad for him if he doesn't win ~ But I don't think he should win. I wouldn't mind seeing him sing a fun song that HE likes. That would probably make a difference.
I think Syesha has really come alive the last 2 weeks. I have liked her all along.
I like Brooke's voice but I just don't think she is good enough as a performer to win.
I really wish they would replace Paula. I just can't stand hearing her tell people "You are so unique" and "You are really showing who you are" ANY MORE!! That's why we ff thru her comments ~ they are all the same. Can't. Take. It. Anymore!
Haven't watched Hell's Kitchen yet! Loved how the women won even after being literally short handed. Ow ow ow that burn must have killed. Ow ow ow.
Good luck tomorrow ~ You know we will all be thinking of you! Thanks. Get lots of sleep tonight.

Vickie - You will do fine tomorrow - and it will be a huge relief. Way back in time when I had my gallbladder removed, it was two weeks in the hospital and a month off of work with a 14" scar to admire! Now you qare looking at a day in the hospital, three or four days off of work and a scar so small that it is almost invisible. Asn't technlogy a wonderful thing!
Hell's Kitchen certainly is getting very interesting! I still don't see any of these contestants to be what I would call a qualified chef yet, but they are getting a bit closer!
A $200 pizza at Ramsey's resteraunt? Are you kidding me? I guess that I will stick with frozen for a while! I do love white truffles - but I will have to earn a lot more than what I do to be able to afford something like that! I am positive that is was extremely tasty. None of the contestants came up with anything close - although some looked pretty good. It seemed like most of the contestants couldn't even pronounce some of the ingrediants let alone know what they were or how to correctly use them!
Matt is a psychopath waiting to go off! His comments and expressions are so ridiculous that he reminds me of a baby scrunching their face up before they poop!
Good luck tomorrow Vickie - you will be missed around here!

Good Morning, Vickie! Awesome news that you'll be getting rid of that nemesis gall bladder tomorrow - hooray! I hope your recovery is swift and easy!
HK was certainly interesting. Those guys can't seem to communicate or work together even though they keep losing the challenges. The girls for the most part don't particularly care for each other, but they manage to put it aside at least enough to work as a team. I still don't see anyone starting to shine through enough to get the job in Chef Ramsay's own place though.
AI seemed frantic to me last night, and oddly boring at the same time. I found myself paying more attention to my computer than listening to the singing. Jason really stuck out to me as the weakest. He should be the one to go, but I also think it'll probably be Syesha.
Now you go have your surgery, Vickie, and come back feeling great next week!!
The Red Star snuck in while I was posting - congrats on another one!

I hope you feel better soon - I went through the surgery with my daughter and her relief was very big once she was over the surgery.
Jason - please send him home. He has some talent, but he just isn't rising to the occasion at all any more.

Aww it sucks being sick, uncomfortable and in pain. I hope your surgery goes well and you bounce back quickly.
I haven't watched last nights shows yet (or monday's for that matter) as we had softball. But I am looking forward to fast forwarding through the embarresment that is Paula. When she talks 'normally' she makes me uncomfortable and awkward.

Good luck tomorrow Vickie Jean - you know we'll all be there in spirit!! Hope somebody's going to put in a blog message on your behalf afterwards saying "Vickie Jean's fine. Surgery was a success. She's ready to join Dancing With the Stars!" (well maybe only the latter as a way of showing your A-OK!
Agree about AI. Thought it was odd with Paula too but wondered whether she WAS juding the rehearsal and whether Ryan screwed her up by asking them to give their opinions even though they were supposed to wait!
I liked Brooke's second song a lot, but too bad she's so inconsistent and I think she will be on the bottom, along with Jason who was cute, and I enjoyed his first song, but cute doesn't cut it when you're vying to be the #1 AI singer!
I really liked Syesha last night (and past few shows, and at the beginning before the comps), and David C's second song (HATED his hair - back to where it was before when I hated his hair - what's up??) and liked both of David A's songs.
I LOVE Neil Diamond. Havent seen him in ages and gee but it hurts when you see someone you always admired aging. Know it's inevitable and I'm getting to dislike my mirror, but somehow I always expect them to stay the same. At least his voice has. Matt Roush was saying they should forget about these theme/mentor nights. I don't - I rather think they add to the mix. Anxious to see what happens tonight, and anxious to hear you are up and feeling GOOD!!

Forgot about DWTS. I was glad to see Shannon go - they were beginning to bug me - a little too much lovey doveyness that I thought was for the camera, and I'm sorry but even when she shook her hips I didn't think she really SHOOK her hips!
Glad Marissa is still there but afraid it can't last. Does her partner really dig her or what? I like how sweet and agreeable he is with her but I wonder if there's more??? Doesn't bother me a bit!
Don't know if Christian can keep it up with one bum arm - how can he do any of the special moves? Hope he doesn't win though with a sympathy vote, wouldn't be fair, though wondered if that's what happened last night.
I'm hoping it's Kristi and Jason and that it'll be Kristi as #1. Think she's earned it, even though it's amazing someone as big as Jason can be as light and quick on his feet.
Cheers Vickie. Nice not having BB to keep me glued to the TV and sure you're glad, considering, it's one less for you.

Hey Vickie! You're in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. I have one question, though. Are you gonna ask the doc for a souvenir gallstone? My former boss used to keep them in a small jar of alcohol on her desk. I kid you not!
Anyway, about American Idol...
AI seemed frantic to me last night, and oddly boring at the same time.
Yea - that's exactly it, Coug. It was a very odd show indeed. Nobody really stood out last night, except Poola! (loved that Z)
I can't say I really enjoyed anyone's performance last night. Plus, I think they all sang the wrong songs! We didn't see any advice that Neil Diamond gave and found out the only reason he was there was to promote a new album. Sorry ~ I don't mean to be such a downer. Can you tell I was disappointed?
So what's the theme next week?

Hi Vickie Jean:
You are in my prayers and I will be looking for Frodo to post how you're doing, tomorrow. Take care, dear, and get plenty of rest. You can always give us your critique of AI and Survivor next week, when you're feeling better.
Paula was the best thing that happened for AI last night. She seriously needs to lay off whatever she's drinking, smoking or snorting. I wish that I could've pulled Jason off the stage. Syesha looks like she wants to stay in the competition and Jason acts like it's too much of a burden for him to sing. I hope we are all shocked and Jason goes home. Again, David C. was excellent.
As for Hell's Kitchen, it was pretty interesting. I laughed when "General Bobby" called Sea Urchins, "Sea Merchants". What a goof ball!!! Jen had better be careful. The target moved from Corey to Christina. Next time, it will be on you, Jen. Glad Vanessa left. She needs to tend to her injury.
As for DWTS, also glad that Derek & Shannon left. It's never a good idea to attack the judges. It usually backfires. I also am concerned that Christian may not be able to dance well with an injured arm.
Take care, Vickie Jean. Sleep well and focus on yourself. We'll be here for you.
Also, Congratulations on receiving another Red Star. You are so talented, that you can write amazing blogs, even while you're very sick.
I just wanted to add that I've read that Jason messed up his second performance because Paula had already critiqued his performance, BEFORE HE SANG THE SONG LIVE. Apparently, she had heard him sing his second song during the dress rehearsal. After the judges gave all of the performers their first critique, Jason was left on the stage and the other 4 contestants waved good-bye to the audience. I guess that Jason was a bit upset to sing after Paula's bad critique. He already knew that she would hate his performance. Since she's been his biggest supporter during the season, he took it hard. So, I'm sorry I was so hard on Jason.

Greetings - and best wishes for your upcoming surgery.
I've been reading your blog/column for a while and enjoy the recap of shows.
I just wanted to mention my favorite moment of Hell's Kitchen last night - when Ben, in one of his rants against Louross, made fun of his mohawk hairstyle. I think Ben has forgotten to look in the mirror, as his hairstyle is just a quick trim job away from a mohawk, too!
