American Idol: “I Shot the Tambourine Man Yesterday!”
Am I mis-remembering or by this time isn’t AI usually bloating the results shows to 90 minutes or 2 hours? What has started this uncharacteristic self-restraint? Can anyone say RATINGS?
***
I may now know why Randy is scared to voice his opinions while “judging”. The show started last night with Seacrest calling him out on his tough critique of Syesha. Randy was anxious for people to know that HE didn’t make the pretty young lady cry the night before. It had been Paula welcoming her to her dream that had set off the waterworks.
The group song, “Reelin’ in the Years” had me reelin’. The kids are fine but the sound on this stage is horrific. You couldn’t hear them when they sang in unison. If it’s going to be that bad, then record them and let them lip synch. I’m a big girl. I can take it.
There was the usual recap and then David Archuleta, (who seems to look younger every week), was brought out. I didn’t know if I could take the suspense! Would he be safe? Would he go home?
Of course he was safe. He’s also really young and not very interesting. I get the feeling he’s sheltered. He seems distressed when he’s asked questions, like he doesn’t quite know what to do with them. So we had to sit through his reasons for his song choices the night before…which were the same reasons he gave the night before for his song choices.
We got to see the kids fly on a private jet to Vegas and see a show while being treated like celebrities. Exciting. Really. It was. I liked it. Great drama.
David Cook was dragged out. I still wanted to beat him up over his boring week. Does this man not remember THE CURSE OF DAUGHTRY? He can’t afford to lay off a week. America’s fickle and them little girls got them quick fingers and they’re all in love with Teen David.
He felt his entire day was off. He was right. He was also safe.
Then Syesha and Jason came out. I was worried for Syesha. She deserved to be in the top 3. Jason did not. But there is no talking to the little girl dialing fingers and he’s a cutie.
But before Seacrest gave one of them the bad news, we got to see the Ford Commercial with the group dressed as bullfighters while they sang a really bad version of “Ring of Fire.”
Taylor Hicks is now a stamp. Bet he never saw that coming.
The phone questions ranged from a 24-year-old who wanted to know if David Cook would take her out for her birthday while he’s in Pittsburgh to someone wanting to know why the Queen hasn’t knighted Simon.
The highlight of my evening was Maroon 5. I’m not a huge fan, but the lead singer was a complete hoot. He shushed the audience playfully at one point while he was trying to talk. And when Ryan asked about their upcoming tour, he seemed at a loss, finally coming up with “We’re gonna go to Europe...and San Antonio…”
As for advice for the young people…
He said, “Hello young people!” Then he told them to get ready to work and be prepared to think that they hate what they do.
It may be the best and most realistic advice the Idols have gotten all season.
Bo Bice came out to perform. It wasn’t bad. I really liked him. He hasn’t done that great but he’s had a ton of health problems, very serious ones, so hopefully he’s back on track.
And then finally…the dreadlocked one was sent home after joking that someone told him “that I shot the Tambourine Man yesterday.”
All that is left now is to let Syesha go so we can get to our David Smackdown.

VickieJean, Great recap. I think Randy has always been harsh with Syesha..I don't understand why, but I'm glad he wasn't the reason she was crying. David A. is adorable and can sing..but he's not idol material to me..he's too boring. I'm a David Cook fan. It's not only little girls voting for him each week, it's this 45 year old woman too. When is tvguide going to hire you?

Good morning VickieJean,
David A.........one dimensional David C.........multi-dimensional Sayesha.........non-dimensional
And Jason.......gonna miss his quirky little self.
How are you feeling? Do you feel the love? You have a nice following with really caring people who pray a lot for you. It's a wonderful thing.

WELCOME BACK, MISS VICKIE!!!
I am so glad that you are back! You are obviously loved by your loyal readers!
Was out yesterday so I missed your return but it did give me the opportunity to catch up on all those Hell's Kitchen episodes. Is it just me or is Matt about to cry on every single episode?! Yikes! One of these days Gordon will wind up killing one of these chefs...either that or his head will explode while yelling and cussing at one of them. I thought he might tone down the language a bit with a room full of teenagers at the sweet sixteen party but based on the looks on their faces they could hear him quite clearly.
I'm not surprised Jason went. He had some good moments in the competition but hadn't been overly impressive recently and was a trainwreck Tuesday. Syesha has a beautiful voice but she tends to drift more into musical theater. I thought her voice on the Sam Cook song was wonderful but the Tina Turner song looked like something you would see in Branson or on a cruise ship - musical theater as opposed to a real concert. David A has a good voice but hasn't wowed me with his performances. When he's finished I usually think "Well that was nice". David C rocks. Even though sometimes he seems a little too pleased with himself. But then again, at times, so do I. LOL
Definitely looking forward to tonight's Survivor - and of course your blog tomorrow discussing the episode.
Thanks for all your hard work blogging. You entertain us and have brought us together in a little community that I enjoy being a part of (even when I don't post comments).
Welcome back.

Hi Miss Vickie!
I have one visual left over from last night that I can't get out of my head. SPANDEX!
When I was ffg through the commercials and I saw that Ford commercial, I stopped the ff to watch it. Seeing the Davids and Jason in those spandex outfits had me laughing so loud and long that my stomach hurt. Jeans have a wonderful way of hiding and accentuating what you want. Spandex? uh, uh. no way. We also learned that Cook has a little pot belly and Jason is a little bow-legged. I know it was killing them knowing everyone was watching that commercial as evidenced by Cook's reaction afterwards. I'm sure they had no idea they were signing their dignity away when they agreed to be a part of the show.
Well, we weren't surprised at last night's results and that's okay with Jason. He was ready to go. I hope he is able to relax and enjoy his friends and family before the tour.
Does anyone know what the theme for next week is?

Vickie - I loved Baba O'Riley so much - it was the high point of my Idol week - but it's been a favorite of mine since I was younger than David Cook. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer.
I am soooooooo glad Syesha got to stay. She is getting better, she is working her head off and she cares. I can't say the same for Jason. The Davids both deserve to be there.
It's almost over. Thank goodness.

I'm proud of America this morning. Syesha deserved to stay; Jason deserved to go.
It's interesting that Ryan pointed out that out of nearly 51 million votes, the top 3 were only separated by 1 million each... meaning that, theoretically anyway, if Syesha picks up a larger majority of Jason's voting block than either of the Davids do, she might have a shot at the finals. If that doesn't work, she could always go after the superdelegates... oh wait, that's something else... sorry!

Hi Kimberly, I'm afraid all the little girls will be voting for Teen David. I only question if us older ladies can keep up with them trying to get a win for Older David! Randy has always been hard on Syesha.
Hi Auntie, I HAVE felt the love, thank you! I feel better everyday but now I'm really starting to get sore too which I'm sure is normal as I heal. I see you're a fellow David Cook fan. I think we may have this one in the bag if he's on his game.
Hi karrosfan, Thank you! I missed everyoe here too! Matt always looks like he's about to cry to me. There's just something about him that icks me out. I can't wait to see how Survivor plays out this week! All that and a new daughter too! It's going to be a great week!
Hi Kath, I thought it was cute how the kids were laughing at those pictures of themselves in those outfits. They were pretty revealing! I think Jason was ready to go. I'm wondering if this will be the week where the judges pick a song and the kids pick a song. It's coming isn't it?
Hi Cinder, I'm with you. I feel more tired by this season of Idol than anything. I'm ready for it to end although I'm happy with the final 3. I hope they fix what went wrong next season.
Hey Rod, Yeah, America got this one right. Superdelegates. I just saw on the news that one in California wants $20 million for his vote. Great guy! LOL! I found those totals a bit weird too. That does make more of a case for Syesha although it doesn't surprise me that the two boys could be close in votes.

Cinder, try to find the full version of David singing Baba O'Reily on iTunes.
Jason deserved to go, and I'm glad it wasn't Syesha. I'd hate to have to listen to all the conspiracy theories.
Bo was ok, but while the song sounded like his type of music, it was pretty fluffy...not many lyrics.
Regarding the "curse of Daughtry," if you remember that week, he gave a good performance and Kat's performance sucked. Everyone, including Kat, Chris, and the judges, thought that Kat was going home that week. That showed again how popularity reigns over talent sometimes on AI. I think what happened to Chris is what happened to Michael this year, his fans felt complacent and didn't vote.
I don't think that could happen to either David this year. They both rate waaay too far ahead of everyone else in terms of popularity. Daughtry's year the top 4 were Taylor, Kat, Elliott and Chris. They were pretty well evenly divided in the fan department. I think they said the difference from first to last was like 1%. This year, there may be that size of gap between the 2 David's, but then there's a SERIOUS drop to Syesha. How many times has she been in the bottom?

Hi Vickie Jean:
I'm so happy to see you posting again. I know what you mean about not having an appetite after going through surgery. Unfortunately for me, my appetite returned 2 months after my surgery. My suggestion is for you to take the Vicoden, before you have your staples removed. I'll discuss my experience with staples after your experience.
I'm glad that America made the right decision and Jason was voted off the show. He seemed like he wasn't having any fun and was having a lot of problems remembering lyrics. He mentioned that the contestants will have to learn three songs next week.
I think that part of the problem with AI is that they need to allow the contestants to sing more of latest hits, instead of songs that are 30, 40 or 50 years old. The contestants are criticized if they change up a song too much or if they didn't change up a song alot. It's sacreligious if they sing a Whitney, Celine or a Mariah song. Vickie Jean, you also made a comment about the group songs. This season, for some reason, most of them have been lousy. Why not do a medley of songs and let each singer do a song. This group just doesn't sound good together.
If I were Syesha, I would be packing my bags and saying my good-byes. It almost seem like there's not a need for a results show next week. I don't think that Syesha will receive very many of the votes that were going to Jason. So, it will be the Battle of the Davids. Hopefully, David C. will be the winner. I think that David A. isn't fully cooked yet. (pun intended)
Vickie Jean, get plenty of rest and we'll talk to you tomorrow concerning Survivor. Take care.

Good Morning, Vickie!
Jason certainly seemed fine with his dismissal. I think he was as ready to go as we were to have him go. What a sweet kid though. I'm glad he'll be on the tour for all of his fans.
I'd be surprised if the final weren't the Davids, but Syesha just keeps hanging in there. I think I would have to give her the "Most Improved" award.
I hope you're getting plenty of rest - take care!

HEy Darclyte, You're right about Daughtry having a good week that week but he'd been off his game for a few weeks before which gave the impression to some people, I think, that he didn't care anymore. It wasn't true, but you know how some of the voters were. And they all did have huge fan bases. I liked the three boys. Never had much use for Kat. I think we'll have our David finale!
Hey Lady! Thanks! It's so good to be back. I think things would be better if they let the kids sing better known songs. I think they're afraid though that most of the audience doesn't listen to the newest music so they steer the kids toward classics. At the very least, maybe if they would limit the song choices and pull the songs they don't want the kids to try...you know how the judges are. Wow! Look what you did to that Shania song but DON'T TOUCH THAT SHANIA SONG!
I've had so many stories on staples from it wasn't bad to some of them were bad to it hurt to it didn't. I figure I'll fall in between all that mess! LOL! I'm so glad to be alive I really don't care. This was a closer call than we all realized. I am resting up and looking forward to the wedding. Thanks again friend!!!
Hey Coug, Jason looked relieved to me. I think he was beyond ready to go. He does seem like a sweetie. That Syesha could be a spoiler if she hits one out of the park on us next week but I'm still hoping for the Davids. I'm taking it easy! Thanks!

So great to get to read this block Vickie Jean and to see you're feeling better. Horray!
I'm glad Jason was voted off - think it seemed to really be screwing him up the past few weeks - being on AI that is - like it was too much for him and felt sorry for the kid. Cute, sweet, weak voice, better suited to a super club or a coffee shop, where he won't be brutalized.
NASTY comments on him in Matt Mittovich's blog where he asked for people to pose questions for Jason when he interivews him. I just asked whether being on AI has changed his goals and what he's going to do next, and that he should be proud he made it to the top 4.
Syesha has been wowing me. Matt asked where Jason's votes would go, whether they'd go to David A, be split between him and David C, but I wonder whether some won't go to Syesha. Some have said SHE could be in the top two. I'm ready for whatever. Think the top THREE is a special place to be and though I'm hoping for the two David's (and going back and forth on WHICH one because sometimes David C's smugness gets in the way, for me, of his talent), but it COULD be A David, and Syesha. If so I'd guess it would be Cookie, though REALLY hope the guys battle it out.
Looking forward to it, to tonight's Survivor, to your blog tomorrow AND to hearing your son's wedding was WONDERFUL.
Love ya gal and am SO RELIEVED you're B-A-C-K!!

You really rock with your postings. Multiple red stars!
It was about time that Jason Castro went. I think he should have gone home a while ago. But he rocked with his ukelele and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I think he is adorable, but an airhead. Forgetting the lyrics is just too bad of a faux pas.
I think David Cook should win. He deserves it. Archuleta is popular, though, so we'll have to see. I guess I'll have to vote more than my usual 50 votes a week.
