Supernatural – Time for One More Game and Picture-Proof that I am a SnOb.

HPIM0165.JPG
Yes, I am a SnOb
Greetings all, and welcome to my last “Hellatus” blog of the summer.

I was going to cut right to the chase, and present one last game for us to play, but as you can see, I’ve been having fun this weekend, and just wanted to force you all to . . . I mean share it with you all.

I’ll call this “A Pumpkin Tale”.

About 10 years ago, we started our “Pumpkin Carving Party” tradition. We invite friends and family over, (BYOP – Bring Your Own Pumpkin) have pizza and carve pumpkins. I started out rather simple, but in past years, have challenged myself to carve more and more elaborate pumpkins.

About a week ago, I began searching for Supernatural patterns, and have not been able to find any. So this weekend, my husband suggested downloading photos of 67 Chevy Impalas and creating my own. Now realize, I’ve only carved pumpkins, I’ve never made a pattern before. And my artistic ability is pretty much on the “Dean” level.

Given all that, I’m pretty happy with my result. I mean, it’s not perfect. I need to move the hood line down a bit, and the back wheel-well needs to be a bit more flat, but other than that . . .

If that’s not proof that I’m a card-carrying SnOb, I don’t know what is. :)
Thank you all for putting up with my indulgence. And now . . .

Is it October yet?

Not yet, but soon . . . so soon!

I think we have time for one more distraction.

As we’re approaching the new season, I’ve been thinking about what we may see. And that has led me to think about what new “playmates” I would like to see with the boys. I know that this season is going to be very demon-heavy, but the core of this show has always been about the urban legends, and the boys driving on that “road less traveled” to small-town America.

And so, let’s chat about ghosts, monsters and nightmares. Is there someone or something that you would really like to see on the show? As always, I’ll take serious or silly. And while this is not about show cross-overs (we’ve already done that), I will accept creatures from other shows. (Like going after Stephen King’s “It”.) Also, since Dean will go wherever he can take his Metallicar, Mexican and Canadian legends are fair game. I don’t see the boys letting something like a border getting in their way of saving people and hunting things. (Family business, you know.)

Rules as always:

This is fantasy only, no real spoilers. (if we hit upon something real, it should be by accident.)
Points are awarded for creativity and detail.

And as always, I’ll go first.

The “legend” that I’d like to see is that of the Phantom Train. Heard and supposedly seen in Arizona and Texas (and elsewhere, I’m sure), the train heads across the desert, not following any rails, and lit from an unknown source. One story has it rescuing a foolish tenderfoot out looking for gold in the desert just outside of Tombstone. Other popular stories of phantom trains suggest that those who ride are dammed in one way or another. (We’re not talking about the Polar Express here.) Either way, thinking about the boys and the Metallicar taking on the old west, just makes me smile.

(My husband would like to put in his two cent’s worth in this blog. After being with the boys (his and mine, that is, not Sam and Dean) all weekend, he’s hoping Sam and Dean will go after Barney, the Teletubbies, or Boobah in a future episode.)

So, can anyone come out to play?

Panns! That came out great!!!!!! I'd love to see some of your previous masterpieces sometime.

OMG! I am so with Mr. Panns on these choices & I don't even have kids!!! Especially those Teletubbies...they are just too creepy!

Hmmmm...well, if the boys have to go to Canada, they MUST cross the border in Michigan. That way I can have some fun...errr, I can offer a place to stay & assist them (with whatever they might possibly need!).

I've mentioned this one before, but I would dearly love to see an episode on Springheel Jack. I'm specifically thinking of something along the lines of Stephen King's short story Strawberry Spring.

Staying on the Stephen King train of thought, how geeked do you think Dean would be to stay (read: investigate) in the Stanley Hotel. That's the hotel SK based The Overlook on in The Shining. Ghosthunters did an investigation there & it was freakin' awesome!

I've always been partial to Chupacabras too, ever since The X-Files!

Thanks Pixie, Whimsy and Rap. The agreement for my husband to help find pictures, (and let me spend time doing this over the weekend) was that if this worked he wanted me to do a '58 Plymouth Fury next. I guess I'd better start looking for pictures! :)
So Rap, are you going to tell about Springheel Jack, or make me look it up for myself?:)

Panns! Take it from an artist, that's pretty awesome! Job well done! *high five*

Oooh, hunts I'd like to see the boys go on, heehee, I kinda have more than one, here's my faves:

Waverly Hills: I'd call it pretty much the freakin' scariest place on earth, and ppl seem to agree. It was featured on a show called...Scariest Places on Earth, LOL, also featured on GhostHunters as one of the places they deemed to be truly haunted, and man, you should've seen the evidence! And finally, it had a two-hour documentary on Sci-Fi Channel about it, "Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanitorium", which once again called it one of the world's scariest places. It's an old sanitorium in Louisville, KY, that started out as a small hospital built in the early 1900s to help house tuberculosis patients. As the disease spread, the need for a bigger hospital led to the massive five-story structure that still stands today, opened in 1926. So many deaths occurred there per day that they even installed a "death tunnel" to hide all the corpses they had to carry out from the still living patients. After streptomyicin was introduced in 1943, the TB cases dwindled and then Waverly was converted into Woodhaven, a geriatric hospital which was closed in 1981 due to patient abuse.

So that's the history, but you oughta see this place. And there's tons of ghost stories, a woman who runs out with her arms bleeding, a ghostly bouncy ball that appears out of nowhere, a little boy who supposedly owns the ball, a homeless man and his dog who died seeking shelter in there, shadow people galore, and room 502, where two nurses allegedly committed suicide. Plus, they kept insane patients on the fifth floor. It's freakin' scary, and I'd love to see the boys go there! LOL. Here's the Wikipedia link, some before shots, and nice pic website.

Other suggestion, maybe cuz I live in WVa and maybe not, LOL...

The Mothman: OK, basic lowdown, it's a giant moth/human creature with glowing red eyes, but I guess that's self-explanatory by the name right? LOL. Basically, the Mothman is a bad omen, whenever he is seen disaster shortly follows. The most prime example of this was the collapse of the Silver Bridge on Dec. 15, 1967. Before this happened, the Mothman was said to have been seen near the bridge, but after that, his sightings pretty much dissipated. But the legend is still out there and still renowned today.

That's what I've got so far, could probably come up with more but I think that's enough for now! LOL.

Thanks Kitty and Pengy. I'm glad our two resident artists like it! :-x
Pengy, it's a pattern on paper. What you do is carve out the shaded spots. I made it like the "Pumpkin Masters" patterns. If you take a look at one of their books, you can see what I mean.

(Except this year I notice that they must think I'm extra stupid, because they've put the word "Remove" all over the grey areas)

I think I can scan the pattern in and post it. I'll try that out later tonight.

(If that doesn't work, I can fax or mail it to you)

YAY!! I would love that. :-D

I've never done pumpkin carving with stencils before, so that "cut out the black part" would help me immensly! LOL I imagine it looks something like this and I just carve the dark spots?

Panns! *squees* he wanted me to do a '58 Plymouth Fury next

Christine!!!!!! Oh yes! You'll have to post pics of that one too!

Here's the Wiki link to SK's story. Here's the Wiki link to Springheel Jack. There's also this link (which mentions some of our other faves too!). From what I've read, SHJ is kind of like a Trickster type. I can't remember if it's said outright in the story or not, but it seems to me that SHJ is tied to Jack the Ripper. Maybe Jack was possessed by a demon? Anyway, I've always really liked the story.

I wanted to toss Leprechauns on the pile too. Also, people who may "think" they're something (vampire, werewolf) but really aren't. That would bring us back into the "Demons I get, people are crazy" arena.

Some Christine sites for you:
One
Two
Three Hope those help! I freakin' LOVE that movie!!!! Christine is on my list of dream cars, but has moved down the list to below the Metallicar!!:-p

Oh, panns, that Impala-o-lantern is GLORIOUS!!! Sweetie, would you be willing to post the photo (and maybe the pattern?) over on the little "40 Days of Metallicar" Impala 40th birthday site that alias_chick is running over on livejournal? If you're willing, just click on "Today's Entries" and post a new comment with the art. Folk over there would love to see it!

About new playmates ... I need to think. Things that go bump in the night were never my forte. But before I can think, I need to pack my suitcase and take my little road trip, so this may take a while ...

Panns That pumpkin is so cool! I bet you'll have the coolest pumpkin on the block! Hee!

As far as ghost stories for the guys to investigate, how 'bout the most obvious one of all? The Winchester Mansion in San Jose. It was built by Sarah Winchester, the widow of gunmaker William Winchester. She was guilt-ridden over having such a huge fortune built upon a weapon that killed so many people. She starting building the house because she thought the spirits of those killed by Winchester rifles wouldn't rest unless the house was under continuous construction. (Yeah, I don't follow that logic, either!)

Anyway, they say the house is haunted by her spirit now. How cool would it be for the Winchesters to investigate the Winchester?

Kitty--I knew you'd bring up Waverly Hills! I'd love to see that one too! I was going to mention Danvers State Hospital, but they're frickin' tearing it down for a damn condo developement (or some such crap), but apparently in April, there was a fire on-site (dun-dun-dun-duuuh)! Session 9, a very creepy little flick, takes place at Danvers.

Ooooh! Trivia per Wikipedia: The land the asylum sat on once was the site of the home of John Hathorne, one of the judges in the Salem witch trials. (Danvers was known as Salem Village at the time, and it was the site of the trials.) ZOINKS!!!
