Legally Blonde Recap: " I Just Hope My IQ Doesn't Go With It"

Hey everyone sorry for the really late recap but I kind of fell asleep last night and then had to get up to go to work but thanks to Tivo I have the whole episode on my TV and am ready to see who gets eliminated next.

We pick up with Autumn heading back to the hotel after being surprisingly saved last week. The other girls wait nervously to see who will return. Rhiannon in particular seems shocked when Autumn, not Emma, walks through the door, and I think I would have had the same reaction. Autumn says the judges told the two of them they were not dancers. Well duh, that's why they were in the bottom two to begin with!

Then Autumn proceeds to call out Rhiannon for saying in the dressing room that she (Rhiannon) would not go home that week. She says this was insensitive, as it shows how Rhiannon wanted someone else to go home. Is Autumn still feeling the effects of her illness? She seems totally illogical to me. I side with Rhiannon completely on this, as she claims that she just wanted to convince herself she would not be in the bottom. Autumn, this is a competition. Rhiannon certainly hopes to stay out of the bottom two- that's all she was doing. She did not specifically say "I hope you are in the bottom two this week". She was trying to make herself feel more secure, not make the others feel insecure. Sorry to rant, but I really don't see where Autumn was coming from.

The next morning they get a call sheet to go a salon. Oh yeah tonight they are supposed to get makeovers, one of which goes badly, according to the previews. The girls are excited, and the brunettes expect to get blonde makeovers.

They enter the salon, and there's Haylie of course. She introduces John Barrett, owner of the salon. He says being blonde is a state of mind, and it "changes everything". I'm not a blonde so I wouldn't know, but he sure makes it sound exciting! Sure enough, Autumn and Natalie are getting blonde dye jobs, and then they will all have a challenge, and a reward.

First is Natalie, who jokingly hopes her IQ won't suffer as she goes blonde. She then trips over her own feet as she walks into the back room. Haha she's acting blonde already! Meanwhile the blondes are getting even blonder dye jobs. Bailey gets a shorter cut and she looks really good, but she takes some time getting used to it. Reminds me of ANTM when one girl always freaks out about getting shorter hair. Lauren tells the camera that Bailey is making a big deal over nothing. I don't like Lauren's attitude but I still root for her since I love her talent!

And now the moment of truth for Natalie as she reveals her blonde hair. It looks great!! I think she looks better as a blonde! She feels more confident in herself as well.

And in comes Autumn with her new blonde cut! She too looks awesome- I can really see her as Elle now. She admits she hated the cut but didn't want anyone to know that. I don't know why she hates it I think it looks really great on her.

Now the girls go to SoHo Studios for the next part of their workshop. And there waiting for them is Laura Bell Bundy, Miss Elle Woods herself. The girls screamed when they met her the first time earlier in the season, and now the reaction is mixed between screams and dropped jaws. She talks to them about their "inner Elle". Elle is very positive, and doesn't judge others, and she tells the others to do the same. Too bad Cassie S. wasn't there to hear this, although I hope Lauren got the message as well.

Autumn asks what Laura has learned from being Elle, and Laura says she became more of herself, and calls it "the best experience of her life". You can tell she really took a lot away from the part and seems to not want to let it go.

Laura then introduces them to a PR man named Michael Hartman and a photographer named Dan Hallman. He will take each of their pictures as Elle, with them all wearing the same dress and shoes. But, he wants each of them to try to stand out in their photos. Wow that dress is kind of ugly, in my opinion!

I think I like Lauren and Bailey's shots the best. They both had the energy and fun nature of Elle really captured in their shots. Now Haylie announces that the winner of the challenge will go on a lunch date with Andy Karl, who is the understudy for Emmett in the show. I'm glad they finally have the girls meet Emmett, but really, they couldn't get the guy who normally plays him instead of the understudy? I'd be ticked off if I were the girls and only got to go out with the understudy rather than the real star.

And now Michael and Dan give the girls feedback on their photo shoots. Autumn is creative and has energy. Rhiannon had fun, but was not free physically. Bailey used the same shot Laura did on the posters for the show. I did not realize that until the judges said it. The judges said they liked that she did this because it put her at ease, but I think she should have done something more creative in her shot. Lauren has her feet firmly planted and seems confident in every shot. The judges love that Natalie was standing on the books in her shot. They seemed to love everyone's photos even though I was not as big a fan of Natalie's or Autumn's, so I have no clue who's going to win the challenge.

And after the obligatory commercial break, we find out that the top two were Bailey and Natalie. And Natalie wins her second challenge in a row. I'm sorry but I really don't agree with that decision. The standing on the books was clever, but her pose and face really don't do it for me in the picture. Autumn is upset that Bailey got runner-up for doing the same thing that was on the original poster for the show, and I agree that Bailey should not have been a finalist because she was not creative enough (although Bailey is still one of my overall favorites). Although I think Lauren should have won instead.

Haylie then announces the next challenge- to sing the ballad "Legally Blonde" with Andy himself. Again, they couldn't get the regular star for the girls to sing with? Anyway after dancing last week I'm glad we get to hear the girls sing again, and hear how much they've improved from the first week. The song has lots of emotion in it too, so it will test the girls' acting chops as well. The girls choke up even watching Laura sing in on stage.

Natalie gets ready for her date with Andy. No tag-along friends for this reward, I guess. The restaurant they are in is right by Broadway, and you can see the signs for all the shows in the background. Ooh Andy's cute too! He looks better than he did in the clip from the show! Andy says Natalie looks great as a blonde. Then he gives her good advice on the song- he tells her that the song is about a choice, not just being sad. That could really help her during her audition.

The girls arrive for rehearsals, and vocal coach Seth and choreographer Denis are impressed by Natalie and Autumn's new hair. This week the girls got individual attention from Seth and Denis as they rehearsed the song. Autumn's acting is good but I don't really like her singing. She realizes that she is a bad auditioner, which could explain why she's in the bottom group so much. Seth tells her to treat each audition like a performance instead. Maybe this could be a rebound week for Autumn...

Lauren looks great and plays devastation really well. Seth and Denis warn Bailey about her hand motions during the song. Rhiannon looks a bit fake in her sadness but breaks down emotionally during the song. Wow Natalie's acting really impresses me during rehearsal, and she too cries real tears of emotion. She may be a favorite to win now. She says the song speaks to her now that she is blonde.

And now it's audition time. Haylie is sporting a pretty blue dress that is very sparkly. She introduces the judges, who love the new blonde hair of Natalie and Autumn.

First up is Autumn, who is confident since singing is her strength. Not in the rehearsals it wasn't. But she actually sounds pretty good in her audition, and I can see the sadness in her face. She does look a bit too happy during the high notes, in my opinion. But she does look really sad at the end, and the judges loved it. She should be safe another week.

Next is Bailey, who fears that she might not bring the right emotion to the song. Her voice is much better than Autumn's but the sadness is not quite as convincing. The judges agree that she didn't "pop" and also didn't feel the devastation. Paul asks if she's ever felt like a "dumb blonde" and she finally breaks down in tears saying how many think she can't succeed as an actress. Why didn't she do that in her audition?

After the break we see Natalie, who is confident that her reward with Andy will help her in the audition. Again, singing was good, but the acting a bit weak. Bernie says he didn't feel Elle in the audition, and I think I agree.

Next is Lauren. Her singing is incredible as usual. She doesn't cry like Autumn did but I can see the sadness in her face and hear it in the song so I think it works. The judges love it too! They say it was moving vocally.

Finally is Rhiannon. Her singing is not as strong as the other girls but I can really see the sadness in her eyes. I think her acting was second only to Autumn today. Ooh there's an offkey note that makes Bernie cringe. The judges call her out on the singing as well. Wow I basically agree with the judges this week.

So Lauren and Autumn should be safe, and some combo of the other three will be in the bottom. I'm not big fans of Natalie or Rhiannon, so as long as Bailey is safe I'm happy.

Now the judges deliberate on the auditions. Bailey was disappointing. Autumn was fabulous and proved herself. Lauren has a powerful voice, but may need a few more years to mature. Rhiannon's voice lacked power. Natalie didn't command the stage and should be better by now. If there's only a bottom two I think Bailey's great last few weeks may save her, leaving Natalie and Rhiannon for the bottom.

And Haylie announces the list. And there are only two names on it.... interesting. Another double elimination perhaps? Well it's pretty obvious the two names on the list are Autumn and Lauren, so the only question is who gets called first. I hope it's Lauren but I think it will be Autumn. Sure enough, she's called first and then we go to commercial. Pretty pointless to go to commercial since it's obvious who the second name will be.

Anyway they finally announce the second name, and sure enough it's Lauren. Between the judges comments and deliberations it's usually pretty obvious who the bottom girls are going to be. The more interesting part is now, when they announce who's going home. I still think Bailey and maybe even Natalie's previous impressive auditions will save them.

And Haylie sends them to the casting office, warning them that "at least one" may be cut. So again, is there a possible double elimination about to occur?

All three are in tears and nervous, as they've never been in the bottom group before. Up in the casting office, Bernie says that the decision was not easy. Bailey has the perfect package, but maybe it's not complete. She did not have heartfelt emotion. Paul warns her not to hold back and to show rather than do. The fact that they are giving her advice for the future makes me think she's safe, as they probably want to give her advice to help her get farther in the competition. Rhiannon is unique and lights up the stage, but might not have the vocal chops or dancing skills to handle it. Natalie has a great voice but today was small in her audition and didn't totally connect with the song.

Sure enough, Bailey is safe, as they warn her to be more "special" and take it to the next level. So my favorite of the bunch is safe, so I don't care who goes home. I do think Rhiannon is a bit too goofy for the part even though I'm not as impressed with Natalie as everyone else. Bernie says only one will be going home. It's basically a choice between voice (Natalie) and personality (Rhiannon). And the judges surprisingly choose personality, as Natalie is cut. Wow I'm shocked I really thought she was emerging as a favorite to win, even though I wasn't a fan of hers. Now I really don't know who has the edge.

Natalie is gracious in defeat, saying this is just the beginning and that she will miss the friends she made.

Next week the girls apparently divide into two- Lauren and Autumn versus Rhiannon and Bailey. Finally some friction in the house. Can't wait!

I watched this last night and then went online today to watch the entire audition for each of the girls. I have to say I think the judges made the wrong choice. Rhiannon's complete audition wasn't very good...at least compared to Natalie.

Just a few thoughts on the remaining girls:

Autumn~ I don't think she makes a very good blonde, but besides that she can't dance and there is a lot of dancing in the play. On the other hand she sings amazing and her acting is believable.

Bailey~ She was my favorite from the get go. She can sing really well and can dance, but her acting just isn't as good as the some of the other girls.

Lauren~ I think she has it all singing, dancing and acting, but she just looks too young to be a law student. Next to Andy Karl she looks like a baby. They just don't look good together. It looks like he's robbing the cradle.

Rhiannon~ She can act really well, but the singing isn't great. There is no way she can pull this musical off.

Out of the remaining 4 the only one I can see being Elle is Bailey, but she really needs to work on her acting chops. It will be interesting to see who the judges pick.

Question: The judge that is in the show Paul something. Did they ever say who he is in the play? I always miss that part. Maybe I should look on MTV.com to find out.

Hey April! Yeah I watched the full auditions too and I thought Rhiannon was by far the worst. The others I thought all did well and I liked Bailey more than the judges did. I think Rhiannon should be the next to go, leaving a pretty good final three. Lauren is still my fave even though she's so young since I think she has the best voice of the bunch.
