Happy Independence Day, Rev. I hope you'll be able to spend at least a little time with us. We love you.
I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate today in our community than to post your 4th of July blog from last year. (I'm only posting the blog. Those who are around today can add new comments to it.)
Land of the Free..Home of the Brave I don’t have to tell you we live in the greatest Country in the world (sorry my Canadian Blog Buddies, although I think you’re pretty cool too).
As we celebrate the anniversary of our Country’s Independence with people gorging themselves on Hot Dogs, shopping for sales and spending a day at the beach, its nice to reflect on what a pretty cool Country this is. Sure we have plenty of problems with corruption in the government and such, but I couldn’t imagine living anyplace else.
This is the Land of Opportunity. We could by next election have the first Black man or first woman President. I have experienced in my lifetime opportunities that were denied to my grandparents. I am grateful for the sacrifices others made that paved the way for me to have choices.
And I am equally grateful for the opportunity to put pen to paper and blog about my favorite viewing pleasures with you.
My top three favorite patriotic movies: Yankee Doodle Dandy with James Cagney Rocky with Sylvester Stallone Glory with Denzel Washington
My favorite patriotic song: America the beautiful – sung by Ray Charles
My favorite episode with a patriotic flavor: from Barney Miller. Wojo wanting to kick a man he arrested because he had the nerve to sell the American Flag at raised prices, but not doing so because the guy had the American Flag sewn on the seat of his pants.
Vee, it's still a great blog this year! Marci thanks for posting it.
Vee, I hope that I get to see you today, if not I'll tell you now just in case. Have a wonderful 4th of July weekend, I hope you can see some fireworks from your room. Rest and take good care of yourself. I'll be checking in on Monday to see what you had to say over the weekend. Love you sweetie!
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend. I won't be around too much today as I have to work and get packed to go away for the weekend. I don't plan on being back until late Sunday night. I'll see you all on Monday!
Trish - Thanks for all the beautiful fireworks. I hope you have a wonderful time with your mother.
Furley - I love the old-fashioned graphic. Thanks.
Jenna - Thanks for posting Rev's favorite version of her favorite patriotic song. It's my favorite too (and I wish it had been made the national anthem).
John/Zia - I hope you're enjoying your holiday. Thanks for stopping in to greet Rev.
Happy 4th of July everyone, and especially to you Rev!. I had to laugh when I saw that you mentioned Yankee Doodle Dandy with JamesCagney--every time it shows up on the classic movie channel, I stop what I'm doing and watch it--great movie, great music--James Cagney--great dancer! I still haven't mastered posting fireworks etc. (I may bug Molly to show me) sooo--think mental fireworks!
Pat - Thanks for stopping in. For the Fourth of July today we're getting Alfred Hitchcock on Turner Classic Movies. You'll have to wait until 11:00 tonight to see Yankee Doodle Dandy.">Have a great weekend.
Happy Fourth of July Big Sis, Big Sis's Family, and all my BFZ Friends!!
It's the Fourth of July, my favorite holiday, and I'm doing the very patriotic act of...watching the What Not to Wear marathon on TLC. Well, later we're having a barbecue and since we don't have to go to work tomorrow we may actually brave the crowds, the overcrowded Metro, the thunderstorms, the mosquitoes, and security checks to go watch A Capital Fourth and the fireworks down at the National Mall. Maybe.
Here's my favorite Fourth of July-related video. Enjoy! Happy Fourth everyone--even to those of you who aren't celebrating it!
Famin - Thanks for posting the video; I'll have to watch it later. Right now I'm waiting for my city's parade to start. My apartment faces out onto the boulevard on which it will be passing, so I'll get to watch it from here. Have a great Fourth, whatever you do.
Lucky you, Marci! I think the DC one already happened. I'll probably watch it on TV. All the tourists are driving me nuts! My brother's leaning towards going to the Mall for fireworks this year. We have several options for fireworks--including DC and Baltimore over the Inner Harbor--and we can't decide. We sort of feel that since we actually don't have to go to work tomorrow we can go someplace like the Mall and fight the tourist traffic which we won't be able to do for another five years or so!
