WGN America: Outta Sight Retro Nights
On Friday night, Eric and I were flipping channels trying to find something, anything, to watch. Eventually, we stumbled across WGN America's "Outta Sight Retro Night" and were provided 4 episodes of WKRP in Cincinnati, including our all-time favorite, Turkey's Away. I'm disappointed because it was just a week long thing that ends tonight. I learned after the fact that they ran episodes of Mary Tyler Moore, which I also adore.
I remember back when I was in college, I would watch Nick at Nite which gave me nightly episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bewitched, WKRP, and later even Barney Miller. I wish these shows continued to get airtime, as they are classics and what's more, it gives a great basis for comparison between today's TV and that of the past. I applaud WGN America for bringing some of them back, even for just a week.
What shows would you love to see brought back? I wonder if we can start a movement?

Hi, Fi! (I always enjoy a rhyme!)
You beat me to the punch, girl! I was planning to post something thanking WGN for this “blast from the past.” I had a wonderful week enjoying four hours a night of episodes of the Mary Tyler Moore Show; Barney Miller; Welcome Back, Kotter; Taxi; and WKRP in Cincinnati. It’s hard to pick a favorite from a lineup like that; for me, MTM and BM would tie, followed closely by WKRP.
If you are interested, WGN will be “blasting” from the past again tonight with two episodes each of WKRP, Newhart (the one with Mary Frann) and The Honeymooners. I hope they will continue in this retro vein. I would gladly join a movement to let them know how much we enjoy seeing these gems again.

SASSY!!! I can't tell you how happy I am to "see" you! I vote you post your blog too. Maybe if we buzz enough they'll do it again, plus I miss your posts my dear!
I'm despondent over missing Barney Miller!!!

I'll take your vote under advisement!
I was upset that I accidentally erased one of the episodes of Barney Miller before I could watch it; I have a DVR and thought I was erasing a movie I had just finished watching. I did get to see one of my favorite episodes—the one where the guy thinks he's a werewolf! But then again, I think most of the episodes would be on my "favorites" list. My love for Barney Miller could only be matched by Rev's!

Sassy, don't make me come up there! I'm eagerly anticipating your take on the Retro Nights!!!
I had Vee on my mind Friday and watching WKRP fueled the fire because it reminded me of her love of Barney Miller. I'm glad they ran it even if I did miss it. I think we need to make SOMEONE run Barney Miller constantly for her sake.

Hiya Fi, how's things? I love all those shows too. Another show that I would watch on a regular basis (even though I've seen them all) is the Carol Burnett show. Hiya Sassy great to see you, it's been too long!!!

Hi Fi,
I did post a blog last week about WGN's retro nights. And I'll be there tonight for WKRP and The Honeymooners. Apparently this is going to be a regular Sunday night event. The times are different for every time zone, so check your local schedule or the WGN web site.
And I'll second Molly's recommendation for the Carol Burnett Show. Also, Dick Van Dyke.

I'm good. It's been really hot and humid up here since Fri. 98 degrees with the humidity today, so I've just been chillin' not doing too much! We're supposed to get T-storms tonight and tomorrow so hopefully that'll break it! Hiya Marci!!!

Molls: It's 91 degrees here in Waterloo/STL but I don't want ANYMORE STORMS!!! The River is way up and it's been so wet here, I'm surprised I haven't molded!

Molly - So, how long ago was it that you were moaning about the cold and couldn't wait until summer? Here on the southeast end of San Francisco Bay, it's 85, with 27% humidity--a lot warmer than I like but not too bad with the low humidity. Why I looooove California!

I heard that it's been nothing but storms there. We're pretty lucky here, the humidity generally only last 2-3 days and then we get a break for awhile. As much as I hate snow I don't think I could live somewhere that the temp. and humidity was in the 90's non-stop. How's your dad & mom doing? Did your mom do your painting for you?

Mom keeps threatening to do my painting but I think I'm going to hire someone. There are other jobs to be done and it would be more efficient to get one person to do all of them. My dad is doing great, he goes back to work next week. He's getting a new wallet for Father's Day. The one he has looks awful but he claims it was "molded" into the shape of his hindquarters. Considering how much weight he's gained (thankfully) since the transplant, his hindquarters are a different shape and I told him so!

Oh I'm so glad that your dad has come along so well and that he's put on weight! That's awesome! My dad's doing really well and he's lost about 20 lbs which in our case is really good. In case you weren't around then my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer (very early detection) in April and had to have about 18 inches of his colon removed. He's done really well and didn't have to have a bag or even have to have chemo! He wasn't way overweight but it's definitely helped him lose weight and he could stand to lose maybe another 10 lbs. I could never figure out how carrying a wallet in your back pocket could ever be comfortable. Men!

Molls: I did miss your dad's diagnosis but I'm glad to hear he's doing so well!
I don't get that back pocket thing either, but as you said, it must be a male thing! Of course, my Mom's purse is an entity unto itself (probably weighs 20 pounds) and when she had surgery a couple of years ago and had a weight restriction on what she could carry, we all mocked her!
