« Hi Fi
Home Depot: You Can Do It, But We May Not Help
Part of my Staycation has consisted of opening my front door to various installers for completion of my home improvement projects.
Today was the installation of my new patio door. The installer was fabulous and even caught an error on the store's part. The store that sold us the door packaged the wrong size trim with the door so I went on a drive up to another Home Depot that was a little closer. The customer service person took FOREVER to get me what I needed (although she was thorough and even called the installer to confirm) and then sent me on my merry way to the register with 3 pieces of wood that were 7 feet long each.
As most of you know, I'm 5'3" so that was a challenge. Then, only the self check aisles were open. Talk about a comedy of errors. I almost impaled the guy behind me and the guy in front of me with the boards as we were waiting. Then, I couldn't pick them back up and NO ONE OFFERED TO HELP ME! (maybe it was the near impalement) I just needed an assist but the staff just stood and stared (and I swear one of them snickered) as I struggled with them. Sometimes you've got to wonder.

Gotta love homedepot... I am enjoying the self check out aisles though.
My husband sent me off to homedepot while was doing some plumbing installation (new dishwasher and some other small things). I found exactly what i needed and lo and be hold.. woulnd't scan. I stood there for about 5 mins with the stupid thing going 'store help' or whatever it is that it chirps before the girl came over. She ended up finding a sku for me.
Turns out it didn't fit where it was needed at home, so my husband took it back (a 8$ piece of 2'inch copper pipe). They argued with him that it wasn;t bought at homedepot, they didn't know what it was, where the sku came from... ahhh sigh... but he was able to exchange it..

When I bought my house a year ago, I got most of my stuff from Home Depot (including my appliances) and they were great to sell it to you, but if you have any problems, you're just out of luck. My stepfather had some work done on his house one time and the workers installing the door broke the lock. My stepfather told the guy he'd just take the lock off and take it back up there so the guy wouldn't have to come back. Simple right? No. He took the lock and explained what happened. They told him that without the package, they couldn't do anything for him. The worker threw out all the packaging and stuff, so he didn't have it. He just wanted to go get a lock, open the box in the store and take just the lock he needed home. The people could keep that package and nope, they wouldn't let him. He spent so much time calling the store and corporate and no one understood why he didn't have the lock. He should have just had the worker finish it himself. It would have saved him lots of time and aggravation. I think they ended up sending him a gift card or something, but when you're that mad at a store, you really don't want to go back.

Fi, that is terrible. You should have made a big scene!
Mannie, you try to do something nice and all you get is grief over it.
I used to work in retail and if the customer make a big enough and loud enough scene about something they'll usually get what they want. Talk to other customers as they are walking by saying "can you believe the lack of customer service here?" & telling them the problem.

mdaily: The abs are nice but the character is still a butthead!
Trishy: I'll bare my fangs when I think the service has been bad (i.e. my car dealer experience a few weeks ago--I was so nasty, my ex-Marine employee was sitting there with his jaw open while I eviscerated them) but this kind of thing is just a humanity issue.

You don't call that bad service? I do.

You don't call that bad service? I do.
I call it indifferent service by folks who aren't paid enough money to care. Now, my car dealer issue was a different story.
