Battlestar Galactica Finale: HUH????
I'm fuddled. Absolutely frelling frakking fuddled by the finale. I don't even know what to say. OK, they found Earth and Earth is decimated. We still don't know who the 5th Toaster is. The Toasters and the Humans are working together now? I have a slight fear of jump the shark because I felt the end of the series should have been when they found Earth. Boom, period, paragraph, end of story. But, alas, it is not. Feedback please, my fellow BSG fans!!!! CINDY!!! FURLEY!!! COME OUT AND PLAY!

I don't know that you can really jump the shark with only 8 or so eps left. I liked the ep. Only the Rebel Cylons are working with the humans for now. And Cylon and Human cooperation was a necessity for the series. Otherwise, one would have to annihilate the other, and neither would get anywhere.
Obviously, they have more story to tell than just finding Earth. And finding it in that state, while not a surprise, does open the door to interesting possibilities for the conclusion.
The only thing that irks me is that we;ll have to wait so long to see the conclusion.

Well, this is just the mid season finale. Reading the interview with Madam Pres made me expect something very much up in the air. She said it was not an ending, just the beginning of the end. When it comes back after the first of the year and we get the second half it should all come together.
I think the conclusion they work together was the only right one. But who is the fifth cylon? I mean, Diana made it sound like that person was not in the fleet. Maybe whoever it is already is on Earth. The location they landed is decimated, but is the whole planet? There are so many questions remaining and so much time until the answers will come. Frustrating.

I loved the episode! I expected a lot more carnage, betrayal, etc. but it was refreshing to see them actually (at least temporarily) work things out. I though for sure Tigh was history. Ya gotta have that shocking death scene! I really liked Tigh taking on the role of the hero. He has always been kind of a mess and a disappointment. I guess we got to see the man Adama is always referring to, not the trainwreck. His self-sacrifice I think that will actually help mend the bridge between the two. Also, It was nice to see Adama show some weakness and finally break down-the two buds kind of switching roles for a while. Supposedly there are ten episodes left, so plenty more to come! The series of events and clues leading to Earth were set in motion long ago, before the destruction of Earth (I'm assuming)-so I'm thinking that there will be a secondary set of clues leading to wherever the survivors of that Earth may have went. A new Earth. I haven't read and theory type blogs or articles, but personally I don't think they will do alternative dimensions/universes or time travel at this point in time, because I don't think the theory of those possibilities were ever even mentioned (in the BSG reality, not among the writer, fans, etc.) during the run of the series. You don't think they will continue with the Planet of the Apes theme (I liked the way they did it) and have some creepy Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers like they did in POTA2, do you? Maybe a Logans' Run-like Sancuary somewhere on Earth?? I'll be back tomorrow- It's not like we have more than 6 months to discuss..............nevermind. Nite!

I think that the thing about Human-Cylon cooperation is important, considering who the Four are. If you look at their positions in the fleet, they are the most respected well-liked members of the Human contingent and all had the capacity to cause some serious damage, if not complete destruction to the Human survivors at one point or another. Tori and Tigh were key power players in the recognized government and only military presence in the fleet, respectively. They were the right hands of the fleets two leaders. Anders was the leader of the Caprican resisitence, and he Tigh and Tyrol were the main players in the New Caprican Resistence. Anders is held in high esteem, partly for being a rebel leader, and partly for his pre-genocide celebrity, by the non-military protion of the fleet. And Tyrol is the head of the Labour Union, and until his wife died and he went off the deep end, he was so important to Galactica that Adama let him get away with perjury (and later insubordination) and his forbidden secret Boomer affair.
If they had been anyone else, some random poor schleb working in the tyllium refinery for instance, would Starbuck have frantically sped through Galactica to stay Lee's hand? Would President Adama have hesitated so long? Would he have considered amnesty? Would he have considered that they might work together with the Cylons successfully after everything that had happened? No. None of that would have happened. The four, and especially the Boys, are a bridge to the humans, where I think Tori might become a bridge for the cylons. Did you catch in that last scene Tori coming up to comfort Anders, but he, well, didn't push her away but wasn't really receptive either.
I want to see the look on Cavill's face when he finds out that Tigh (whom he tortured and who's wife he used) and Tyrol (whom he matter of factly told was not a Cylon) are Cylons. ANd the look on Boomer's face. I want to know about Tigh and Cap 6's baby, a heretofor unattainable pure Cylon. I want to see Anders and Starbuck reconciled. He's supported her unconditionally both before and after his self-discover, and through her treating him like dren for no reason.
I'm really excited for the last eps. Frustration is due only to the wait; although I'm assuming that all of these loose and hanging threads, and seeming plot holes will be answered.

I had gotten behind on watching this series because of everything going on at my house. And, unfortunately, the DVR deleted about three or so episodes before I could watch (well - we all know I'll buy the season, anyway).....
That said, this episode did for me what I needed it to - left me wanting more.
I agree with Mr. Furley and Moschops - couldn't have written their comments better myself.
And I also agree with Cindy. The biggest TV angst I have right now is not knowing who the fifth Toaster is! And I'm curious about the Tigh/Six baby thing, too.

Well said, guys. I agree and really think the frustration is the long wait for the rest of the story. I wasn't disappointed in the show - a little surprised maybe that it did go as smoothly as it did. But I have to say, I was thinking - wow, they found earth quickly and didn't even realize the hour was over. It went fast!

They did jam alot into that ep. It was the pow we've been holding our breaths for all season. Of course, now that we've had our one big sigh, we have to hold it again for six months.
I did remember one thing this morning that I'd really like to know about. Last season, right before the big trial when they were interrogating Baltar, Gaeta volunteered to sneakily pump him for information. At one point, Baltar figured it out, and then whispered something in Gaeta's ear which sent Felix on a murderous rampage, stabbing Baltar in the neck with a handy pen. I really want to know what Baltar said.

My brother finally rented Season 1 and has been watching it all weekend. I think I made it about three discs before I had to stop. It's a bit of a push-pull for me--the scifi setting is just not my genre, so I have to work hard at pushing past that to enjoy the great writing and acting. Hard to do with a marathon though. I might just read recaps and catch up that way! I'm trying--but it's tough for me!

hi Fi. I left a somewhat lengthy comment on the BSG site on Saturday a.m. But I loved this episode. It made the season more coherent for me. Tigh was not a drunken mess, but became the most loyal of all soldiers in the Galactica fleet. He was willing to sacrifice his life for the good of the fleet, and above all for the good of his commander. Tori..."meh." Not sure if its the actor or the character, but she leaves me cold.
As for the final scene: was it "our Earth", present Earth, past Earth, future Earth? These, I think, are the questions that we now must wait for the second half of the season to resolve.
Cylon-human alliance: we had seen some of this hinted at for us--Helo and Athena, Tyrol and Callie (and Boomer with Tyrol), Baltar and Six. What we have seen, I think, is the humanization of the "skin-jobs" and the "humanization" of human beings for the ultimate survival of humanity. Shades of irony, batgirl!
I think it is significant that the Cylon models who were the most recalcitrant were destroyed in the Cylon civil war (or were they?). It is also significant the that final five have undone all we knew about "skin jobs"--there are no multiple models of these, they seem to be able to overcome their initial programming, and, except for Tori (again, "meh"), they have looked to aid humanity in self-sacrificial ways (again, we saw this anticipated in Athena).
So, this is a wonderful mid-season finale, with much to look forward to in the final epi's. As Cindy and others have commented, the hardest thing is to now wait until 2009 for our answers. But I look forward to re-watching this season through new eyes, in light of this episode, and continue to wonder who is the fifth Cylon.

It was amazing.
I can't say anything more than that.

I can’t top what Mos and Mr. Furley said, good job you two!
(Although, Mr. Furley, I have to admit as soon as I saw the ocean and the beach I was looking for the Statue of Liberty and the guy riding the horse around the corner.)
mdaily, I’m with you about Tory. I just can’t feel a lot for that character.
And I have a question. Did anyone recognize where they were on Earth?
If not, is it possible that they are in our past?
Just speculating . . .

While I think finding Earth would have been a good series finalé, I like that they decided to do something less conventional. They find Earth, and it's been decimated and left to rot. So what happens now? Where do the humans go? What do the Rebel Cylons do now? What about the Evil Cylons? Who's the missing Fifth Cylon? Is the missing Cylon Model # 7, since the known Cylons were Models 1-6, and 8, plus the Four of the Final Five which I assume will be Models 9-12. Lots of interesting things remain to occur. The shark may have been seen a few times at some point over the past couple of years, but it was avoided.

It's actually all an autistic childs' snow globe.... PLEASE tell me you guys are old enough to get that reference!! (Howsabout a Bob Newhart dream???)
Panns-I hope it's not time travel!! I think that's throwing too much into the pot, and it makes it to easy to explain away the bizarre and unexpected "Oh, it's just a different time or a alternative reality" I like that SOMETIMES,if done right, but I think BSG is too grounded to try something like that!

Panns-If not, is it possible that they are in our past? Mr. Furley-I hope it's not time travel!!
The show never made it clear when the events took place within Colony history vis-a-vis our history. I believe it is one of those ambiguities that some fans have speculated on. So, it could be on "our Earth" past or in the future, without necessarily entailing time travel.
Rod discusses the issue of what bridge and where on Earth's geography the last scene took place in his blog in the BFZ. Again, I think that the ambiguity is intentional on the part of the BSG writers, but hopefully "all will be revealed" in the second half of this last season.
I still think that one also needs to question if this is, indeed, "our Earth" and not simply assume that it is.
Good stuff. By the way, I happened to see today a march 2007 episode when Baltar's lawyer was first appointed to him for his trial for crimes against humanity. It was interesting to hear the lawyer's tale of a lost love, and to see his cat startling people, especially in light of the episode with him earlier this season. In that particular episode, the fleet believes Starbuck to be dead and first Lee, and then Anders go to the "memorial wall" to meditate upon Thrace's picture, now pinned next to Kat's. So, it is no surprise that this mid-season finale ends with Starbuck reflecting on Kat's picture (where hers used to be! when she was "lost"), and to see Anders come up to her there (isn't he now "lost"?). Good good stuff.
