Best Game Show Moments: The Price is Right
You know, ZZZ999 had an interesting comment about how sometimes the prizes are kind of bad on The Price Is Right. That's part of the show's goofy charm. You finally get to The Price Is Right, you make it on to the stage with dreams of a new car in your head and you're stuck with a cuckoo clock. I actually have a lot of questions about that show. What happens when you live in a dorm room and you win the Broyhilll dining room set? Do you have to pay for storage until you unload it on eBay? Can you pick the color of your car? How much do you have to pay in taxes? What kind of hotels do you stay in when you win a trip? If you live in Arizona, do you have to fly yourself to New York to get on the plane to Europe at your own expense? Actually, the show has a pretty thorough FAQ section on it's Web site, but I prefer to sit around and ponder. I love to see people win great prizes, but it would be fun to toss in some booby prizes. On the old Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall, if you picked the secret prize behind the wrong curtain, you'd get a junky old car or a baby elephant. As a kid, I always assumed that you had to take the prize home. I envisioned people stuck with an elephant in the backyard, but in retrospect, I guess that didn't happen. That's probably for the best. Since Corbin Bernsen is into publicly shaming the greedy, he needs to add some booby prizes to How Much Is Enough?. A really old elephant, maybe?

Hello again!
I just had to tell you about a prize I saw on Price Is Right yesterday.
Have you ever seen one of those enormous plastic tricycle things that you pedal in the water? You usually only see them in the islands for rent at resorts.
They actually gave one of those away to an old man that drives around in an RV! Drew Carey was like ~ "Can you imagine seeing one of those being pulled by an RV?" LOL. It was too funny! The thing was actually worth more than $4000.00! My husband said he would have purposely lost that game! But it does bring up the question ~ Can they just opt for the monetary value instead of actually taking the (booby) prize?
Speaking of Drew ~ He is definitely not as eloquent as Bob Barker is/was but I am getting to like him. Especially when they give the horrible prizes. Last week they gave away this stupid 3 wheeled bicycle cart type thing built for two that you pedal around. Who the hell would want that! Drew's comment was ~ "There's something you don't see every day!" LOL
And there has to be something very fitting to give away as a booby prize on How Much Is Enough ~ But I can't think of anything right now!

An episode of Gilmore Girls delt with this question. If it is true or TV propaganda is another question.
When Michel came back from vacation having won an RV on TPIR, Lorelai and Sookie asked why he didn't just take the ½ value in cash they offered him. He said he could sell it for more.

For the record, some prizes on TPIR are basically props, and the show gives the winning contestant an equivalent cash value instead. However, not all of them are, and it's not for the contestant to decide whether he can have cash instead of the prize. If the prize shown *is* the actual prize, the contestant can decline to accept it after the show, but they don't get a replacement prize.
