Thursday Night wirh NBC

featuredpost.jpg
Here are a few thoughts on my favorite Thursday night lineup (although I love Ugly Betty and Grey's, too; I just haven't seen them yet). :)

My Name is Earl

The past few episodes have certainly been interesting, but I'm definitely glad that Earl is finally out of his coma!
--Darnell on why Randy shouldn't be trusted with taking care of Earl: Remember the first Mr. Turtle that who came out of his shell and then you put him back in as if I wouldn't notice? These are the things that make me worry.
--Randy filling Earl's IV with a mixture of chicken, fries and beer. Eww!
--"Hey Old Earl." "Hey Old Crabman." Good to know that some things never change.
--Randy using tongs and a blowdryer on Earl during his spongebath.
--In Earl's sitcom coma world they brought in Cousin Wendell after their own kids grew too old to be cute.
--Earl's "pimp chair" with rims, speakers, and a bubble machine.
--Joy after Earl says in his dream world he was married to Billie: "Oh crap, I think the coma made him gay".

Scrubs

Noooo!! Sacred Heart needs Bob Kelso! Even Dr. Cox wants him to stay! I thought Scrubs was really back on its game tonight with an episode that was funny, a little absurd (I loved the "Love Train" sequences), and very emotional (I teared up when Kelso genuinely thanked Ted).
--I loved all the stuff with Kelso talking to Boone on the bench. It proved how much he really does care about the hospital and its people, even though he has to make a lot of decisions that make people hate him. I especially enjoyed his "negotiation" with Dr. Cox where he admitted that he lost most of their battles over the years, but he arranged it so Dr. Cox thinks he lost more. I'm glad Kelso left on his own terms, with his portrait in hand.
--All the stuff with the old folks was funny, from the guy stopping traffic and "honking" back at the cars to the old man randomly wandering through the emotional ending. "Only 470 tiny steps to your new room, Mr. ________."
--The janitor believing he had magical powers, but only succeeding in making one of the old people fall down.

The Office

--Wow, Toby is so embarrassed that his crush on Pam was discovered by the whole office (after letting his hand linger on her knee for a really long time) that he climbs and jumps a really high fence so he can jog home and says he's moving to Costa Rica. Now that is commitment to your fear.
--For the first time in a long time I felt a little sorry for Ryan. Yes, he's a jerk who shoots down Jim and acts like he's a genius with a great life, but it turns out that his big website is a disaster, he has one friend in NYC (who, according to Dwight, might be a hobbit), and he has a drug problem. And he is so desperately out of control that he turns to Michael and Dwight for friendship and advice about his problem, only to wind up passed out in his bed with both of them and Michael giving him a description of The Wire. Another Dunder Mifflin corporate worker hits bottom.
--The mind of Dwight Schrute is a mysterious thing; one moment he feels the need to add to Michael's proclamation that he's going to NYC to "get laid" by saying "with sex" and later he's the only one smart enough to find a way for the guys to get into an exclusive club and winds up making out with a gorgeous college basketball player (who he says he's never going to call). He also has both keys to the office because he believes that if he ever died, everyone else would be already dead.
--Jim's so proud of himself for his plan to work late on Friday so they don't have to come in on Saturday that he gets the whole staff locked in the parking lot, but out of the building, waiting for a security guard that he forgot to collect the Christmas bonuses for. Tough night, but at least he still has Pam.

30 Rock

--Jack and Devon discussing Clay Aiken in Spamalot.
--Liz discovering "business drunk" and "business sick" all in one day, and making her first, and last, major business decision about microwave "button classic."
--Jack wanting to tell his mother about her new job before she dies: “I want her to go to her grave a defeated woman.”
--Liz's counter attack when Devon threatened to tell Geiss that Jack almost let Liz sell NBC to the Germans: making out with Devon in an elevator so it shows up on security footage. She got through it by pretending he was a sandwich.
--Geiss's daughter Kathy munching on potential wedding flowers in the background while Devon flirted with the flower guy.
--Liz to her "former" employees after seeing her new salary and deciding to accept Jack's old job: “Suck it, monkeys, I’m going corporate!”

ER

--Although, Dubenko was off his mark when he decided to confront Skye, I can't really blame the guy for having his suspicions about her. Her "love the one you're with" philosophy is fun as long as you are that person, but as soon you see her start looking at other men you almost have to question if anything is going on. He didn't choose the best way to do it, and that makes me a little sad because I've grown to really like Dubenko and I wish he'd find a little happiness.
--Speaking of happiness there isn't much of it for Abby and Luka. Abby got back to work and managed to deliver a difficult birth and re-earn the respect of all her co-workers including Sam. Luka found a new job, and bonded with Hal Holbrook as an aging cancer patient, but in the end decided that he needed to move out. I understand his choice, but I hope this isn't the end for the two of them.
--Brenner is really starting to annoy me...and Neela. Telling a person that they have cancer while on speakerphone? Not cool. Also, the fact that he is Anspaugh's nephew (or "Australian love child" according to Morris) isn't going to win him any points at work.

Megan - Just popped in to say hi. I think we all have the same Thursday problem--too many shows in too short a time. I haven't had a chance to watch Scrubs or 30 Rock yet.

On Ugly Betty you have some great Amanda and Marc silliness to look forward to and some major frustration (you'll see what I mean).

I’m also glad Earl is out of the coma. I loved when Darnell said that he’d have to testify against Randy if things continued to go the way he thought they were going to go. I wonder how difficult it was not to open your eyes or move when they are doing all that stuff to Jason Lee. Just goes to show what a good actor he is.

I also don’t want Kelso to quit and teared up at the end. He can’t be gone. I want him to stay!!!! I felt so sorry for Ted several times in that episode. Poor guy! I wonder who the new chief will be.

I don’t want Toby to leave The Office either, although I felt very uncomfortable for all of them when he left his hand on Pam’s knee and rubbed it like they’d been together for years. I have a feeling we’re going to see more of the angry security guard in a future episode. I kind of felt bad for Ryan, but that’s what happens to you when you think you’re better than everyone.

I have 30 Rock taped but didn’t have time to watch it and I don’t watch ER, so I’ll just contribute with the shows I watched. Loved to hear your thoughts on the shows Megan. Thanks for the great blog.

Hi Megan, I was just too tired to watch ER last night, thanks for the recap. Did Abby tell Luka about sleeping with that guy (name escapes me)?

I enjoyed The Office last night, too. Toby's leap was kind of great, though a bit over the top and I do hope he stays around. BTW, the guy on last week's episode from the company Disasterkits Limited (Coolguy Paul), actually exists and is Paul Liberstein (Toby's) real-life cousin. Here's a link to Coolguy's site.

Kind of nice for us to be reminded of the fact that Jim's got his own feet of clay sometimes.

Why didn't Kelly call Darryl to get them out of there? Where the heck is he anyway?

Ryan's coke habit was unveiled nicely. As my wife said watching Ryan collapse in the bed between Dwight and Michael: "Worst sandwich ever."

Okay, last night I watched Earl, Scrubs, Office, 30 Rock, Lost and Supernatural (I recorded it and watched it right after Lost). I was exhausted. I still have to watch Ugly Betty.

Earl - I'm glad Earl woke up too. I loved Randy laughing so hard at the memory of the doberman humping the girl. Randy kills me and it's a good thing Earl woke up or he might have killed him too. Boy did I love that wheelchair. I want Earl to marry Billie in real life!

Scrubs - I know they wrote all this thinking it was their last season. All this closure. I bet Kelso comes back to practice as a doctor. He might have to retire as an administrator but not as a physician. I liked JD losing the pee, finding the pee, diagnosing the patient and then telling Cox the truth - and it made a difference. This show is really well written.

The Office - I think my favorite line of the night was when Dwight referred to Ryan's friend as coming from another species. If this version of The Office follows the original, Jim and Pam will get married. I don't think it ruined that version and I don't think it will this one either. However, David (the BBC's Michael) ended up losing his job too. So, maybe not everything should go as the original did.

30 Rock - This show can do no wrong in my eyes. The are so politically incorrect I love it. And the redeaux of Amadeus? Classic stuff. Right down to cape billowing and the admission of Tracy's porno genius. So funny. How about when Liz offered to give Kenneth to Devon?

I will only say Lost and Supernatural were Emmy worthy last night. Intense, funny, shocking, unique - pick and adjective and it applies to one or the other of these shows.

As my wife said watching Ryan collapse in the bed between Dwight and Michael: "Worst sandwich ever."

Ha! Your wife is very funny, David. We're glad you married her so you can share her wit with the rest of us. :)

Just saying a quick hi. I was busy plotting and purchasing a birthday surprise last night so I saw about 10 minutes each of three shows and none of them were on NBC! Too many shows and not enough ways to record them. I used to record UB, then switch to NBC and get Scrubs, and then back to ABC for MIT at first and now Lost. But now, with the new time for Scrubs, I'm totally screwed. I'll have to watch it online.

I did, however, watch a few minutes of Supernatural. I think I recorded most of that too. I saw about 30 seconds of The Office and was wondering what it was that Jim forgot to collect the money for, so thanks for the recap! LOL. :) I think I'll watch Office online as well, if I have time.

This scheduling thing has really got me peeved. My Mondays and Thursdays are triple-booked but on Tuesdays and Wednesdays I have so little to watch that I actually go to bed at 7:30! WTF?! And now I'm having WiFi issues at home so I don't know if I'll actually be able to watch anything online. ARGH! I'm so frustrated!

Famin, she is very funny and I'm glad she married me too! I'd be a lot less good without her. :)

Thanks everyone! I meant to be back here sooner, but work got in the way so I had to post this and run.
:P
Marci--Yay! I hope to watch Betty tonight and I'll be looking forward to that.

Mannie--Jason Lee has been doing a terrifc job of being "comatose" while all these horrible things keep happening to him. That can't be easy! I don't want Toby to leave The Office, either, but what an embarrassing moment for him. I always feel sorry for Ted on Scrubs, but tonight when he was naked and got run over by the janitor might have been an all-time low for him.

Molly--It didn't show her telling him, but she said she did it while they were in Croatia and she has been waiting ever since for his reaction. It was very sad.

David--Your wife is hilarious! I like to see a few moments when Jim screws things up, too; he's such a good, likeable guy that it makes him seem more human when he does stupid things occasionally. Thanks for the link. Where IS Darrell? You are so right; he could have fixed the problem with some bolt cutters in just a few minutes.

Cindy--It is hard keeping up with it all, isn't it?! Thursday nights are packed. Randy's really long laugh was great; I think a few more days with Randy as his caregiver and Earl would have been gone for good! I really hope Kelso comes back, too, and I agree that it was nice to JD and Turk's immaturity actually help them for once. I'm glad they admitted it to Cox, too; he never would have gotten over their miraculous diagnosis when he had been trying for so long. I think Jim and Pam should get married, too; there is enough craziness on the show that they can afford to have a "normal" couple. The Amadeus parallels were fantastic! I laughed out loud at Dr. Spaceman running in the cape. I think the writers on 30 Rock are geniuses.

Famin--Awww! I hope your Wi-Fi issues get fixed soon. The scheduling is really crazy. It has gotten to the point where if I miss a night of TV (especially a Thursday) I have to spend the next three days catching up. I promised that after the strike I'd never complain about that problem again, though, so I'm zipping my lips. ;)

I don't even want to know what Randy used the tongs for. Eww! :O:-p

I'm more concerned about what the blowdryer was for Cindy!

Haha! I think you already know.

Mannie--The blowdryer was for parts he didn't want to towel dry, I guess. ;)

What did you think of Neela using the amnesia drug on the cancer patient on ER? I'm not sure where I stand on an issue like that but it does bring up some interesting thoughts!
