Thursday Night with NBC

A few of my thoughts:

My Name is Earl
--Earl yelling from the hotel balcony during his honeymoon about how happy he was with Billie only to be yelled at and shot at by the other hotel guests for being too happy. I guess that was foreshadowing.
--Randy's disturbing misunderstanding of "rabbit ears" and his subsequent attempts to find a home for the earless rabbit.
--The concept of a grocery bagging competition complete with a referee, grocery groupies, and Miss Bag on Her Head.
--Earl looking creeped-out every time Joel (Jon Heder) touched him with his claw.

Scrubs
--The whole Princess Bride storyline was very clever and had a lot of great moments. A few: JD/The Fool's secret hair product is extra manure, The Janitor/Giant eats babies...I mean, toddlers, The Todd as a high-fiving fairy, everything about the two-headed wizard Turla, and Ted's hunchback.
--Aloma Wright returning as Shirley. I loved the part where The Fool tried to turn his mule Sasha into a horse and he and The Princess ended up on Wench Shirley's back instead.
--ABC needs to officially announce they are picking up this show NOW. This was a cute, charming, fun, funny episode, but we can't leave it like this!
--Since this episode was obviously out of order (Kelso was still Cheif) I wonder when it was supposed to air.

The Office
--Watching Jim do something he's never done before in his time at Dunder-Mifflin: Try. Ryan might be able to suspend Jim from work, but he can never take away the best thing in his life, Pam. The conversation where she called him on the golf course to tell him what Michael was making her do, and he responded, "I like you," was adorable.
--Andy is such a moron that it hurts to watch him sometime. It almost literally hurt in this episode where he managed to get oozing blisters all over his hands AND take a nose dive out of a golf cart into a sand trap.
--Creed leading the revolution to leave work early (“Let’s ditch this bitch!”), saying that he finished all his work months ago, and calling Angela from across the office to see if she's "in" with the plan.

30 Rock
--Matthew Broderick as "Cooter Berger" (his nickname was given to him by the president because he looks like a turtle and he was eating a burger one time...that was really just a sandwich) as an employee of the Bush administration ("The media is so obsessed with the pending election they totally forgot we're here. Exciting times!") and Jack's new "best friend". I loved all the stuff about the lack of pens, and the brilliant pen CAP delivery, and the leaking ceiling. ("The ceiling is not leaking. I can show you a study," and "No, it's not. We've looked into it and it's not."
--Liz mistakenly going to visit Kathy Geiss's office and Kathy staring silently and taking a toy car from her mouth...and then replacing it after Liz left.
--Kenneth's series of Olympic events to get his Jenna-produced Beijing Olympics Page Application to the 12th floor after being repeatedly sabotaged by Donny.
--Pete's bid to be an Olympic archer was destroyed by Jimmy's Carter's Olympic boycott. "Saboteur!"
--Liz's series of baby drama voicemail messages to Jack and the little smile on Jack's face as he listened to them. Then he went all the way back to NYC just to make sure she was okay. Aww! The heart of this show is the Liz and Jack friendship and I'm glad it was on display in the season finale even if they have been (Hopefully! Wake up again, Don Geiss!) temporarily separated.
--Season finale cliffhangers: Will Liz adopt? Are Jack and Cooter and some other high level Bush administration employees gay now? Will Kenneth be killed in China? And what did he do to deserve that's guy's wrath?

ER
--Abby once again proving that she is probably the best doctor County General has ever had. After so much suffering this season it was nice to see her thriving again, and putting the new doctor (who I HATE--the way he treated that intern--disgusting) in his place. As much as I love her at County General, though, I have to admit that I was momentarily excited for her to have the opportunity to get out and be in better place. I just want Abby to be happy.
--Pratt is in love. Real, grown up love. He is actually taking care of Bettina and admitting that he's never felt like this before. Aww, our obnoxious teenage boy has become a man.
--The whole storyline with Lois/Lonnie and her parents was very well done. I thought Beth Broderick as the mom was fantastic. I can't imagine a parent being so angry with his or her child that they wouldn't at least try to save his or her life, no matter what the child had done.

Hi Megan,

Happy Friday! I'll bet you glad this week is over. Now you can relax, eh?

I loved Scrubs last night, and I did notice that it was out of order with last week's episode. The whole Princess Bride fantasy was a lot of fun, and I always love getting scenes of Dr. Cox and his little boy together. Actually, I think I enjoyed watching him and Jack together more than the fantasy itself. And of course Jordan was outside the room listening the whole time. Ha!

How great was it to see Aloma Wright again. If ABC does pick up the series (PLEEEEEEAAAAASE!!), I hope we get Shirley's doppleganger in the cast again.

30 Rock - Everyone had good moments last night and I enjoyed them all. Kathy Geiss is hilarious without even saying a word--what was with the toy car in her mouth anyway?

Was so happy to see Darryl putting Michael in his place. Not as good as last week's Newsies reference, but "Where'd you go to college Michael" was such a solid attack.

I love Creed calling Angela "Pumpkin". Creed's the man.

Michael needs to go get a girlfriend, his narration of Jim and Pam's kiss was creepy. Not as creepy as when he kissed Oscar, but definitely in that range.

All in all, I enjoyed the episode a lot.

Hello Meggy, happy Friday!

I watched bits and pieces of Earl and Scrubs and I'll watch Scrubs at least online this weekend (more if I get time).

I loved the Bag Boy competition! What was the name of the really angry competitor? He cracked me up.

I'm a little surprised that I'm not all that bothered by Alyssa Milano's "southern" accent. :)

Favorite bit: Joy describing Earl's preferred method of foreplay to Crab Man. "I just liked looking up into your eyes." "You were just lazy!"

I've been watching bits of this Scrubs episode all week (Zach Braff blogged about it on his MySpace page) so I'm really looking forward to watching it properly. So far I've loved everything I've seen--especially the Giant who eats toddlers. After reading the interview with Sarah Chalke talking about how she had to get up at 3:45am to get to the set to get her hair done to be a princess, I had expected some really elaborate 'do, so I was a little disappointed! Oh well.

If this has to be the "series" finale, I'm not too unhappy that they saved this episode for the final one. Sure, it's out of order, but most of us fans realize it and why. I wonder what Bill Lawrence had planned for the real season finale, since this ep was obviously meant for May sweeps but not the finale.

I could just gush all over about Scrubs and The Princess Bride meets The Lord of the Rings. Some of my favorite memories of all the years I've watching this show - and we've bought every season as it becomes available - are the heavy laden fantasy episodes. But this one was almost all fantasy. I mean, good grief, it even had a Lost homage with the 'smoke monster'. How could I not love it!! Plus, I got lots of my favorite Dr. Cox and my favorite thing he does - relate to his son, Jack. I am so glad Elliot and JD were left up in the air. Plus, I got to see The Todd, Jordan, Ted, and Shirley - I was in heaven. I loved the new interns as tiny fairies. What an episode! You're right Megan - please ABC make the announcement!!

The Office was one of those uncomfortable episodes. Michael, Michael, Michael. I am not even sure what to say. We love creepy Creed and like David said, calling Angela "Pumpkin" was almost my favorite line. She is so not a "Pumpkin".

Earl - I think Billie and Earl's marriage will be short lived. It was one thing to screw with Karma - but the moustach?? I think she crossed the line!! Not enough Joy for me this week but it was fun.

30 Rock - Could a finale be any better than this? Everything from Jenna self absorbed CD for Kenneth to Tracy's video porn game Frank played for three months and thought it was two hours - it was so funny. Matthew Broderick is the best straight faced funny man since Bob Newhart, I swear.

Good synopsis of the shows, and thank you for clarifying that the "Scrubs" episode was shown out of order. I was SO confused when Kelso was still chief...I thought I had missed something from the week before. Ha Ha. It was a really cute episode and clever as well. Like everyone else, I am hoping ABC will just go ahead and pick it up for next season to give it a proper fairwell.

"The Office" was an uncomfortable episode wasn't it? It was funny as always, but there is only so much of Michael I can take. He has NO clue about tact whatsoever. And everytime I think he learns his lesson, he comes back and does something even more inappropriate (i.e. with the kid talking to Pam during the job fair). Also, I may be in the minority on this one, I love Andy! I think he is hilarious. He also doesn't have a clue but it is a lot more humorous...and I love it when he calls Jim "Tuna".

"ER" was really good last night. I love Abby and I knew she wasn't going anywhere. Her patient's storyline was a good one and I think they did a good job with it. I am SO glad Pratt is finally growing up and getting his act together. However, I do have one question though...he is trying to become ER chief, but didn't they give it to Wexler earlier in the season (in a pre-strike episode)? What happened to her?

David--I was glad to see Darryl putting Michael in his place, too, although I still think my all time favorite Darryl line was last week's Newsies thing. I didn't think it was possible for a Jim and Pam kiss to be creepy, but between Michael's narration and Kevin's musical soundtrack it was a little disturbing. :^O I love Creed, too.

Marci--Happy Friday to you, too! I am glad this week is over although I'm going on two trips in the next two weeks so I don't know if I'll ever be able to relax! I don't know if there was a point to the car in Kathy's mouth other than she is just weird and creepy...and very funny because of it. I love to watch Dr. Cox with Jack, too. Since I first started watching Scrubs Dr. Cox has been one of my favorite TV characters ever and I love the side of him that his son brings out. More Aloma Wright, please!

Famin--I don't remember the angry guy's name, but there was another competitor whose last name was Schmo. :-D
Favorite bit: Joy describing Earl's preferred method of foreplay to Crab Man. "I just liked looking up into your eyes." "You were just lazy!"

That was great! I love Darnell.

I wonder about the real Scrubs finale plans, too. This was a fun episode, and it was a perfect representation of what makes Scrubs great, but I'm really hoping for a proper finale. Come on, ABC!

Cindy--30 Rock's guest stars are always amazing, but I think Matthew Broderick may have been one of my favorite ones of all time. He was so funny and yet completely serious. The Office was an uncomfortable one; nearly everything that Michael did or said made me cringe. I think Creed provided all of my favorite funny moments from the episode...but I'm okay with that because I love Creed. I think Earl and Billie will be over soon, too. Not the mustache! I liked that JD and Elliot were left up in the air, too; I think that can satisfy everyone and fit the "not everything is as easy as in fairytales" theme.

Some schmo from New Jersey (or wherever he was from). Hee. That was a great visual gag even though it's not original.

Thanks, rxtvchick! I think Andy is hilarious, too. He is even more clueless than Michael, but unlike Michael his stupidity doesn't manifest itself as meanness. Every time I start to feel sorry for Michael an episode like this comes along and I want to slap him.

I think Wexler is still trying to leave (or maybe she already left...it is hard to keep up with). When she first arrived she said she was only staying for a matter of weeks, but then they made her cheif. Maybe she was just the interim cheif or something.
