SVU: Insanity
Okay, this one is going to be fairly brief because I'm running off to my last day of proctoring exams (Yay!). These are just a few of my thoughts so help me remember some other good, bad, or just plain crazy stuff (lots of that) from this episode:
All of these people were very, very, VERY screwed up. The victim was a gold-digging hustler who hooked up with the wealthy son of a coffee fortune family(Matthew Davis)in order to get her claws on the family money by marrying the son and having his baby...except he was infertile so she slept with his dad (Stephen Collins) so she could still get the money. The plan worked fairly well because the father and son were a little crazy themselves (at one point in the episode the dad threw P.J. through a window in police station only to hug him and be forgiven hours later at the hospital). Ultimately, though, the title of craziest person in the episode goes to the family lawyer who had been in love with P.J. since they were in college together and does everything in her power to protect him, including murdering his crazy, gold-digging fiance. That was bad enough, but when faced with a hidden video of the crime instead of going to jail the lawyer ran up to the roof of the NYPD (security, anyone?) and jumped off the ledge grabbing her "beloved" and taking him with her so they can be together in death while daddy cries for him on the rooftop. In summary: Everyone in this episode was insane.
Highlights: --Munch stalling the father and son in the middle of the night by asking the dad how to brew the perfect cup of coffee. I love Munch! --The return of Peter Hermann (Mr. Mariska Hargitay) as Attourney Trevor Langan representing Peter Bartlett. It has been awhile since we've seen him. --The lady who was the spiritual advisor to the victim and who communicated with the angels. I'm so glad "Cleopatra" gave her solid advice about the Bartlett's identity. --Casey figuring out the juror was paid off by getting some "behind the scenes" information from her friend the police officer who escorts the jurors. I'm sure that is illegal somehow, but that is one reason why I'm going to miss Casey; she's always been smart enough to make friends with the right people to get stuff done.

HI Megan!
For once I stayed up to watch SVU on the night it aired. I agree that everyone in the episode was crazy.
Did you notice the Angel Therapist lady was the girl who used be on the Ellen Show. I can't remember her name.
I loved the ending, but it seemed a little far-fetched. How could a little lady in high heals pull a grown man up and over a ledge? I just don't think it's possible.
Great review and I hope you had a great birthday yesterday!

In summary: Everyone in this episode was insane.
Yep! That pretty much sums it up! Those people were frakked up.
I admit that I didn't see that particular ending coming. I thought for sure that the girl would jump, but never guessed that she would (or could!) take the son with her over the ledge too.
The previews for next week have me worried. If we are losing both Casey and Lake, I hope they get to go out on high notes and not because of some job blunder or past mistakes that ruins them, know what I mean?

Hi Megan,
This episode was very weird for me--half the time I didn't know if I was watching a daytime soap or a nighttime crime drama. And, I'm sorry, but that ending was ludicrous. The lawyer committing the murder was a nice twist, but her getting by security to the roof and having the strength to take her boyfriend with her when she jumped? Please!!
Your highlights were mine too:
I loved getting more of Munch for the second week in a row. And it was good to see Peter Hermann back again. When I saw Clea Lewis's name in the credits, I wondered what kind of role she would be playing. She was Audrey in Ellen's sitcom, one of the most annoying characters in the history of television. It figured that she would be a whack job, channeling Cleopatra. At least she provided some comedy relief. And, boy, am I going to miss Casey. I don't understand why Diane Neal was let go--and according to her, she was fired. Why? It makes no sense to me.
Thanks for taking the time to do your recap, Megan. Thank goodness this is your last day of proctoring exams.

That was the main problem with last nights episode. I hated everyone including the original victim and didn't care in the least if they all got sent off to jail!
How could a little lady in high heals pull a grown man up and over a ledge?
Yeah - that was a riot! She barely was able to balance herself on the ledge but she managed to pull a good sized guy over it with her - the writers should be able to come up with something a bit more realistic than that!

I agree with everyone; this episode was pretty over the top. I thought it went onto bad soap opera territory, too, especially when the lawyer pulled the guy over the edge at the end. And like Ranger pointed out, I didn't like any of these characters enough to care what happened to them.
Thank you, Marci! I kept thinking "I know that woman was on Ellen...what was her character's name?!" It was on the tip of my tongue all evening, but I never came up with it and I forgot to look it up before I went to bed.
Thanks, April! I did have a pretty good birthday, even if I didn't do anything exciting. I watched some great episodes of Bones and House which is enough to make a good day for me. I hope so, too, Rod. I don't care very much about Lake so if he makes a mistake I won't be too upset, but I'd hate to see Casey go out that way. I still don't know why they fired her!

I agree Megan everyone was...

I liked it though because it was almost the end before I guess it was that lawyer! What I couldn't figure out was when she bent down and P.J. was hugging her, why he didn't just pull her back so safety. She had heels on and was on a ledge, I'm sure he could have pulled her off balance towards him.

Hi Molly! As soon as the lawyer came in and hugged PJ just a *little* too long I suspected she was involved, but I thought she was probably working with the dad or son or both of them. I never suspected that she did the whole thing herself.
The scene at the end was totally unrealistic; she could barely stand up, he should have been able to pull her back easily.

I have not had a chance to see the episode yet, but I am beginning to wonder if Wolf pulled out all the SVU writers and transferred them to the now revitalized L&O (original flavor) and brought over the L&O writers to SVU?! 'Cause from the comments, it looks like this week is another soap opera ending like last week's.
And, boy, am I going to miss Casey. I don't understand why Diane Neal was let go--and according to her, she was fired. Why? It makes no sense to me. Speaking of L&O, makes me wonder if they are going to have Assistant DA Rubirosa also be the attorney for SVU. As I read about the rash of firings that have been taking place in so many hit shows, I am wondering if we are not seeing the financial fallout from the writers' strike?
Anyway, Megan, wish you well on your exams.

That would be awesome! After last night's L&O episode where she kicked arse against Cutler she was very very good!

Good post!
In summary: Everyone in this episode was insane.
Hehe, succinct and very on point.
I'm going to miss Casey, too. I wonder who they'll replace her with.

We all love Munch!
mdaily--You are right, I've been reading great things about the regular Law and Order and in my opinion this has been the weakest season of SVU so far when only a year ago L&O was on the verge of being canceled and everyone was talking about how good SVU was. I wonder if Diane Neal's firing was a cost-cutting measure, too. I'm certainly disappointed by it.
Ranger--I wouldn't mind that. I liked the actress when she was on CSI:Miami, even though she was in a horrible storyline...on a bad show.
Stace--Thanks!

"--The return of Peter Hermann (Mr. Mariska Hargitay) as Attourney Trevor Langan representing Peter Bartlett. It has been awhile since we've seen him."
Sadly, his appearances were the only highlight of the show for me. I would've preferred if HE ended up being Olivia's boyfriend.
As for the ending, I guess I'm in the minority because I SO didn't see that coming. Yeah, it was over the top, but I could see it happening--she had a good grip on his shoulders, and his arms were around her--so she had the balance and just pushed herself backward. It's tv, folks. Yeah, he should have just pulled her off, but the igit didn't.
Yeah, just where was security since they all KNEW it was the lawyer after they viewed the tape before calling in Father, Son and Lawyer? Should have stopped her from leaving when she said she wasn't going to watch the video.
I'm hoping the season finale will be better. Please let it be better.

P.S. How'd your exams go, Megan?

Hi Megan,
I'm always late with my comments because I tape everything so I can watch on the week ends with my husband. Poor guy goes to sleep at 7:30 because of his job. I wanted to say thank you very much for your blogs about LO:SVU and CSI:NY And although I don't watch on a regular basis, I read about Bones, too. Even if I don't comment, I always read them and enjoy what you and the others have to say. Keep up the excellent work.
