CSI Miami: Plan B?
WGA strike is over. Writers are back in the trenches. Production is up and running. What to do till new episodes are ready? Go to Plan "B", of course.
CBS, who took the biggest hit during the strike (due to less reality and more scripted shows), in their infinite wisdom, is encouraging viewership of repeats of CSI Miami and Ghost Whisperer by providing us with pop-ups, called "bullet points" on CSI Miami and "love notes" on Ghost Whisperer, to be dispersed throughout episodes in the next two weeks. These apparently will consist of peeks behind the scenes and interesting trivia about the show and cast.
Will the marketing ploy bring in the viewers lost to the realities during the strike? Time will tell. Ghost Whisperer on Friday (tonight) will be the first test of these, followed Monday, Feb. 18th, by the same on CSI Miami.
Pop-ups are generally more annoying than informative. That's a hurdle to overcome. We'll reserve judgment until next Tuesday.

Why do I have the feeling this will not be well received? I hope I'm wrong. I'll have to watch Ghost Whisperer tonight, which I've never seen. It gets curiouser and curiouser!

I hope CBS knows what they're doing. Hating to prejudge, but it seems to me that popups would be annoying, to say the least. I get irritated at the split screens; the popups could totally do me in. Will have to wait and see.

The pop-ups currently being used by LOST are very informative and make the rerun worth watching. If well done like ABC's LOST it could be good!
I really don't see anything very informative that could be added to a show like CSI; Miami though. It's hard enough to watch it the first time (my opinion only).

I have to admit, when I first read this yesterday, I groaned--out loud. When I watch something, anything, I try and concentrate on what is unfolding. I really hate distractions on the screen when I'm trying to follow the plot. I also do not care for the pop-ups, etc. on A&E, TNT and the other channels. I honestly do not see the whole point behind this.

The whole point behind doing this with LOST is to inject more information into a show that yo have already watched. It is not intended for those that have not yet seen the episode. LOST is quite complicated, which makes this a valuable tool, but with a show like CSI or Ghost Whisperer it seems to be a lame attempt to get you to tune in.

I've never seen but a few minutes of Lost so can't comment. I agree I don't like the popups in general, no matter how complicated. They are distracting.
Lame? Maybe, but CBS lost a bundle due to the strike (much more than the other networks) so I imagine they're trying to get the viewers back before the new episodes are ready to fly.
