I'm not a huge Apatow fan, but I can't miss this movie! Some of my favorite TV stars are in it--Jason Segel (Marshall, How I Met Your Mother; Nick, Freaks and Geeks) and Kristen Bell (Veronica, Veronica Mars; Elle, Heroes) are the main characters. I'm a huge fan of HIMYM and Heroes and most of you who read my blogs know my passion for all things Veronica Mars. Mila Kunis (Jackie, That 70s Show) and Jack MacBrayer (Kenneth, 30 Rock) are also featured in this movie.
Check out the trailer!
It's been great to see these talented but underappreciated actors finally get some real press. KBell is on the cover of both Variety and Cosmopolitan (Cosmo's Sex Issue, at that!) and just this morning I saw an extensive interview with Jason on ABC (Jason is also credited as writer for the movie). And they deserve it! In my mind, it'll make up for the lack of viewers (and untimely cancellation!) of bubble shows HIMYM, Freaks and Geeks, and VM, just a little.
Who says you can't start a viable film career by working on television?
And if you go to the film's official website, you can also find out what your Hawaiian name would be. (Mine's Akelipa. Isn't that a boy's name??)
I can't wait to see this movie! I won't be able to see it until the 3rd, but I'm excited!
Kristen Bell was on Lettermen a couple of nights ago promoting the movie and tonight she's on another late night show (can't remember which one). She said she was hurt on the set and if notice in the movie she's walking with a slight limp.
I am going to catch this movie this weekend. I loved "The 40 Year Old Virgin" but was lukewarm to some of the others...but with a cast of actors that I love so much from other things, I figure that it's worth the time to see.
I will wait and see it on DVD, but I will see it. Some of these movies are hilarious and others just leave me a little cold. But I know my husband will love it. I do love Kristen Bell.
I REALLY want to see this movie! You know how much I love Freaks and Geeks (the best tv show ever), Veronica Mars and How I Met Your Mother.
But, these apatow movies are not ones to watch with parents or anyone who I go to church with, which are the only people I go to the movies with. So...I shall be waiting until it's out on dvd.
I've recently watched Superbad and Knocked Up. Superbad was bad. I mean, it was funny, but it was bad. And I really liked Knocked Up, but again, not a movie to watch with the parents.
There are also videos and promos at funnyordie.com. They're hilarious. Judd has 19 videos up. There's a spoof PSA with Kristen Bell, so, you should check it out.
I saw it last night. Another good movie from this group of talents. Funny, smart, and just well done. I was in Hawaii a little over a year ago, and I noticed that they got a LOT of little things correct. I've noticed the attention to detail in all of these "Apatow" related movies, and I really appreciate it. It shows that they truly care about what they're doing. Not a movie for some crowds though, especially those that aren't fond of full frontal male nudity.
I saw it too! And you're right--even I was a little amazed by exactly how many minutes of movie time are devoted to full frontal nudity! Jason Segal, you are much braver than me!!
I've never been to Hawai'i (well, not counting Honolulu Airport; I've been there eight times) but I know I was looking at a deal for rooms at Turtle Bay and it looked like they did indeed film there. Lucky!
Jason wrote the script for this movie and I thought he did a great job. Sure, there are a lot of crude moments, but what resonated with me is that there was a lot of raw, messy emotion as well. And I thought they did that pretty well. They could've maybe developed Kristen's character a little bit more, but I thought she did a great job with this character who was so different from any other character she's ever played.
Oh, and Jack MacBrayer and Paul Rudd were hilarious! Jack plays a newlywed who is at the resort for his honeymoon but the sex--which he and his wife saved for their honeymoon--is not going so well. Paul Rudd is a surf instructor (you can see him in the trailer).
And I loved the ending! I thought Mila Kunis did pretty well too. Her character was interesting as well; different from other characters I've seen her play.
