« Rick Hearst's General Hospital Blog

My first blog!

So, a blog. Is it a blog, or is it a blogg? One sounds worse than the other. The connotations that spring from this word are endless. I saw a movie once called The Blob. I wonder if that is where the word's derived from. Is it an acronym for something else? I am so not pop-culture, it's scary.
By the way, I am Rick Hearst, or Ric Lansing from General Hospital ... You know, Sonny's brother. There you go, now you got a picture, right?

I have wondered to myself what to write on this particular "blog." Is it a journal? A travelogue? A spewfest? As I write this, I am currently on a two-week leave from GH due to a throat condition that required surgery. All is well, but writing is my only immediate form of communication other than jumping up and down and waving my arms. Every day is like a bad game of charades. I thought, "What a great time to learn sign language." Yeah, right. I feel it's always better to contort your mouth to accommodate for the lack of sound. It sure is more entertaining for the ones you love.

I thought I should get the surgery done before the Daytime Emmys in case I have to say something. I have already been taking résumés from interpreters to do all my interviews and possible acceptance speeches. Thus far, I can't find anyone who captures my essence other than my two sons. The only problem with that is you can't use those words on network TV. It seems so long ago that this all occurred... the nomination announcement, I mean. It's like a Monty Python movie with cartoon narration: "Winter turned into spring, which gave way to summer." Usually, you get to keep up the anticipatory wave that comes with this time of year. I think everyone has to be reminded again that this is actually happening. So, if I happen to win, I need you all to be very quiet so I don't strain my voice.

I can't wait to get back to the gray hallows of the PCPD to shuffle the files, get in Jason's face, argue with the mayor, share an interlude with Skye, and speak the names of Jerry Jax and James Craig all in one sentence again. As long as I hold all the cards, it's all good.

Until next time, this is Rick Hearst, aka Ric Lansing from General Hospital, signing off from his first blog (still not sure if that's what this is).

Hi Rick!

Welcome to our little group! Hope you're feeling better soon. I had my thyroid glands out some years ago and they told me I could completely lose my voice if they weren't careful. I woke myself up in recovery screaming at the nurses to be quiet because I was trying to sleep. So, unfortunately for my husband and son, didn't lose the voice even for awhile.

I'm not sure where blog came from. It is a different sort of word isn't it? I've performed blogging on multiple sites but this is my favorite.

Take care of yourself. Looking forward to reading your stuff:)

Hi Rick,

Welcome to our world--you'll find us a very friendly bunch.

I don't watch GH myself, but my mom is a devoted fan. I'll have to let her know about your blog.

I hope your throat is healed soon. Take care of yourself.

Welcome the the wonderful world of blogging. (I believe blog is short for weblog.) I'm sure you will love it here as much as we do.

I love General Hospital. It is the only soap I currently watch. Congrats on the Emmy nom. It's well deserved. You play a great character and you do it well. Ric is so many shades of gray. That's what makes him so much fun.

I'm glad to hear you're on the mend. Make sure you get plenty of rest! :)

Welcome! Great introductory blog!

And good luck with the Emmy nomination - I'd love to see you take one home!

I watched GH regularly as a youngster - work gets in the way now! But I do watch when I can.

Will look forward to reading more about what you're up to!

Hi Rick,

I am going to date myself with this, but I will always remember you as Alan-Michael Spaulding. You left awfully big shoes to fill at Guiding Light. You had some amazing scenes with Melina Kanakaredes. You were a real gem and was sorely missed.

I don't watch soaps anymore, however, I am sure you are still blowing them away.

Get well soon and best of luck at the Emmys!

Welcome to the blogs! I am still fairly new myself, and find that I am on here all the time.

I hope your recovery goes smoothly so I can once again see you on GH.

Hi Rick! Great first blog! I'm glad you've joined the crew here.

I just recently (about six months ago) started watching GH again, and I've always found Ric fascinating. Sometimes I like him, other times I love to hate him. You do an amazing job with the character.

I hope you recover nicely, and good luck at the Emmys!

All right, we finally get a blog from a "GH" actor! I'm always wondering about the behind-the-scenes stuff on the show, and now we have an in. :)

I'm going to be a dork and link to the Wikipedia entry for "blog" so we can all get some education.

Welcome Rick. You'll have fun trust me. But be careful of Daniel. He gossips a little too much. Don't tell nobody.

Well, this is my very first "blog" response. I've read a few here and there and always thought of them as an online diary to talk about anything. If you were to journal online, it would be a blog, only public. Given what I do know about you Rick, you have opinions on LOTS of things, so you should be a natural!

I look forward to reading what's on your mind.

Rick - Here's to a speedy recovery from your throat surgery. You are a wonderful asset to GH with your evil talent! HA! Enjoy your scenes all the time and will miss having you on the show. Take care.

So sorry to hear about the surgery and, like you, I HOPE that you are all healed up and ready to go by the time that the Emmy award ceremonies roll around. I am certainly pulling for you to grab that Emmy but there IS a LOT of stiff competition in that category. In my opinion, of course, you are simply the best!

ALSO - in your acceptance speech - be SURE to thank all of your leading ladies because something like that ALWAYS makes MAJOR points with the ladies in the audience!

Even my kids think you are 'the most!' We look forward to hearing more from you!

Sincerely, The De La Cruz Family -- Estrelita, Eduardo, Carlos, David, and Esperanza
