« Rescue Me Anti-Blog
Week Three
It’s official: Nationwide, more Americans are struck by lightning on Tuesday nights from 10 to 11 pm than are watching FX's Rescue Me. This week’s episode, "Torture," was directed by Jace Alexander (Heaven's Gate). Jace has been working a lot in commercials lately and is a great guy as long as he keeps up with his meds. Speaking of directors, our own Peter Tolan is missing and presumed gambling. If anyone sees him, please give us a shout. Callie Thorne's trailer is rocking again. Callie, who winters in Port St. Lucie, Florida, with the New York Mets, sure gets lots of company — she has lots of fans. Men fans. Lots. I, John Scurti (Lawrence of Arabia) had a great scene in this episode with Denis Leary (The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman). What’s great is that he had a booger in his nose the whole time we were shooting it, and no one told him. See if you can spot it — right nostril. Denis’ son, Jack, is visiting the set this week because his school is on break. (Since when do juvenile-corrections facilities have "breaks"?) Anyway, my Zippo is missing, Mrs. Lombardi's pearl earrings have disappeared, and the caterer "can't find" 40 pounds of chuck steaks. I’m just saying. Tom Houghton, our director of photography, showed up for work again in his wife’s clothes. He says it’s a midlife thing, but the sad reality is that he is now almost completely blind and they are both size 6. The cast of The Sopranos films their show right next to us here in Queens and have taken to randomly shooting at us. We thought they were blanks until they killed one of our grips. That's the last time I ever get their Frisbee off our roof.
Editor's note: All of the comments expressed in this blog are purely the product of John Scurti's overactive imagination and do not necessarily have any basis in reality.

John I have to say I love your anti-blog! I'm not buying your theory on the number of people watching the show versus getting struck by lightening....sorry, I think the viewership is actually just a tad higher although with all the rain and storms we've been getting on the east coast those numbers could easily flip the other way. Just wanted to say keep up the great work with this blog and this has got to be the best season of Rescue Me so far. I loved your scene last night crossing the street with that nasty cigar in your mouth and when you realized it was Tommy in the truck and the way you just spit out the cigar and kept walking w/out looking back was classic! I'm still cracking up over that one! Kudos to Denis and all the writers and cast and crew this year...I can't wait to see what's coming up for you guys next!

I love your blog. Like many people that cigar scene was one of my favorite parts of the show last night. Perfect facial expressions.

Don't be so down John! I'm telling everyone I know to watch. The cigar scene: Hil.arious. But when Lou poured his heart out to the vet and just got laughed at - heartwrenching. Just want to give him a big bear hug. And the timing of the back-and-forth over the "it's not a kitty, it's a can" in the kitchen was what makes this show so worth watching.

Well, I'll speak up for all of the bloodthirsty fans by saying my favorite part of last night's episode was Tommy's slow-burning quiet storm turned colossal ass-kicking. I knew it was coming just as soon as he looked under the table and saw what I saw. But having missed the entire first season of the show, where I assume his personality and behavior were first clearly defined, I wasn't expecting his reaction to be so unrelentingly violent.
Although the low viewership is disheartening news, I wonder if the numbers are really that bad when compared with other shows (1) on basic cable in general and (2) on FX specifically. I know you guys have added fans along the way, including me, so here's hoping that FX remains supportive and aware of Rescue Me's great value to the network.

My GF's think I'm losing my mind to leave our Margarita Night early every Tuesday so I can dash home to watch a tv show. I don't watch much television, but I can't miss this show. I thought last season outdid the first season, and just two episodes into the third I am already enthralled. I hope you all enjoy doing what you do, as much as I enjoy watching.
Great blog BTW.

John, it's truly a testament to your acting skills if you did that scene with Denis and his booger in one take. I mean, how can look at it and keep a straight face? I smell an Emmy...
Please, darling, forget about "Candy". She's no good for you; she didn't even leave you with enough money to buy a new love. Know there's a sofa with your name on it here in Houston, Texas...just in case.

Once again love the blog and role on the show. I just want you to know hugs and kisses await for Lou. I was hysterical with the kitchen smoking kitty scene, bar scene (except phone call ) and the birthday party you were hilarious. I always love your comeback lines. Oh, the cigar scene and Tommy catching you, classic. Looking forward to next week.

Don't know why Sassy is talking about doo doo (?!) , but I do have to agree with her that we would love to see you post on rescuemeforum.com. Hundreds, nay, thousands of John Scurti fans are waiting there for you (block the torch-carrying villagers chasing Frankenstein scene from your mind) to express their admiration for your talents. Since I live here in the "Lightning Capital" of the world, (where over a thousand strikes can occur in one storm minute) may I unequivocally say in that 10-11PM hour's time-span, there are far more loyal RESCUE ME viewers (or is it voyeurs?) Once again, you had our rapt attention this week...and I, for many, can hardly wait for next week! Regards, Faery

Look, the show is the best thing on TV. It is the only thing I watch religiously. I sent the clip around the world and tell everyone I know to watch it.
Keep up the great work!
