« Rescue Me Anti-Blog
Week Six
All hell has broken loose on the set of Rescue Me [Tuesdays at 10 pm/ET on FX]. The cast and crew have fallen prey to the demonic wiles of the new diet craze "Murder One and the Fat Is Done." The craft-service table is now a dim array of murky tap water, colorless vegetable mash and dime-store cigarettes. We are all losing weight rapidly, but smoking breaks often interrupt the shooting of scenes, ergo the work days are growing longer. Lenny Clarke (Uncle Teddy) is slapping his thinning thighs with glee. His plan has worked.
Other consequences of the mob mentality: John Scurti and Michael Lombardi have now brazenly begun to demand on-set director chairs for their female fans (who grow in number each episode). Now the ladies can watch them emote up-close and personal. Our brilliant editor (Leslie Tolan, wife to brainiac Peter Tolan) has her job cut out for her, having to edit out all the off-camera sighs and giggles.
Steven Pasquale and Daniel Sunjata have now brought their tumbling mats to set, where every day at lunch they compete for who has the tightest "double-front-twist jacknife no-foam-latte superdisco-cool back-handspring." Jack McGee keeps score. Begrudgingly — for, you see, he used to hold the record.
James McCaffery has currently taken over marketing for Rescue Me. He honestly believes that if they show the cast drinking beer and smoking crack in our print and TV ads, our Nielsen ratings will sky rocket. Who knows? We're game.
Andrea Roth, Tatum O'Neal and I have taken up sign language specifically so that we may sit across the set from each other, gesticulating wildly, apparently having torrid silent arguments about who in fact is next in line to sexually harass the hot new production assistant. Meanwhile Dean Winters hides behind video village, secretly documenting all the evidence.
Which brings us to our fearsome leader, Dr. Denis "Don't Touch My Hair" Leary. Now that he has secured a separate trailer for his Irish Wolfhound, Clancy (who we're not allowed to make eye contact with, either), he's firing people left and right. One poor dressmaker tried to fix his collar between scenes and the next thing we knew, she was being shipped back to Yugoslavia. As freight. However, much to his joy, Leary has finally obtained the movie rights to Hockey and Hoochies, which he and staff writer Evan Reilly hope to write, shoot and edit in time for Sundance submissions in October. Let's wish them luck....

Welcome, Callie! Your character is too funny this season. Some of your lines have me laughing out loud (and I'm not really a laugh-out-loud-at-tv kind of gal). Your timing and delivery are flawless. Looking forward to reading more of your blogs.

Callie, may I say you look FAB this season! I guess the on-set catering has made its mark on you as well as Lenny, who's lookin' good, too. I couldn't get my parents interested in Rescue Me until they saw you were in the cast. They (and I) fondly remember you from Homicide: Life on the Street. As for Denis, if anyone can bring him down a few notches, it's you. A well-placed pinch can work wonders.

Callie, You are wonderful playing Shelia. I am glad to see a lighter but very funny story line for her this season. You got it going on girl. Look forward to your additional blogs.

Callie - I am still waiting for the inevitable "old-school cat fight". We have seen Denis do it - why not the girls? Wouldn't you love to haul back and smack Johnny's ex? Love your work!!!

Callie, Hi, your blog is great. I love you on the show. There was a scene last season where Tommy found out about Sheila's miscarriage and confronts her. Can I just say how great you were in that scene. I almost fainted watching it because I was holding my breath! I'm not even kidding! Your scenes have been great this season too, except there haven't been enough of them.
Anyway, hope you post more blogs and best of luck to you.

It's too bad that Callie and John Scurti didn't follow the lead of, say, THE OFFICE's Jenna Fischer and BJ Novak and use their blog space to tell interesting, funny, "cast commentary"-style stories about behind the scenes at 'RESCUE ME,' rather than subject us to not-particularly-interesting-or-funny, faux situations.
Callie, I love you on the show (as well as THE WIRE and, of course, HOMICIDE), but I'd much rather hear some real stuff from you.

Hi Callie: my name is Patricia and I’m from Buenos Aires. I’ve enjoyed your writing very much. It was hilarious, especially the part were you wrote “Dr. Denis ‘Don't Touch My Hair’ Leary”. That is such a funny way to describe him!!!! I indeed admire your performance in Rescue Me. I think you are an AMAZING ACTRESS. Your character is my second favourite (obviously Tommy is my all time favourite but can you blame me for being so freaking attracted to him ???? Actually the most important thing I admire about Tommy is that though he is clearly a screwed up person, he does have a conscience and you can see it every time he sees a ghost). Most of the characters in Rescue Me are indeed damaged and have problems but I really think they are trying to be better… Nevertheless we all know most of the times everything goes wrong despite our best efforts. Your chemistry with Mr Leary is FANTASTIC. I hope Sheila and Tommy have the chance to be together again !!!! I’m looking forward to reading more of your blogs in coming weeks. Best wishes, Trish (I hope you could understand my English)

Callie, Great blog. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Rescue Me is, by far, the best show on TV. Thanks to you and everyone on the show for giving us the only must see hour of TV we watch every week. Wish it could be on all year long!

Welcome, Callie! Your portrayal of Sheila on RM is my second-favorite character. She's a great, gutsy broad and one I'd love to know and have as a kooky friend. Sorry, but my first allegience, and my heart, belongs to Kenny Shea. (I don't suppose pleading my case for one of those on-set director chairs would help now, would it?) Faery

I was so excited to see that you've started posting. Shelia is my favorite female character on RM. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see what the rest in the season has in store for your character.
Also like one of the other commenters said I think a cat fight with either Shelia and Janet or Shelia and Johnny's ex-wife would be awesome.

Callie, what a fantastic blog! Where's the new edition? It's been 2 weeks since the last entry and the last episode of RM and you are dearly missed! Please tell Dr. Hair, er, I mean Denis that he's an incredible writer and the show is equally incredible!

How funny to look back in on the blogs when I haven't been able to watch the show lately. Work for a fire dept and been going through an academy so been hard to find time anymore. Thanks to those that post, been able to keep up on the gossip lol.
Shiela has been through similar things that fire guys women have been through but I get to hear it from male point of views and some of what they say and do are real, that or the crew I work with are real dramatic lol.
Would be cool to hear the cast comment to some of the blogs though.
