Guitar Hero 2 and Movies... Aaah, the Perfect Weekend

I spent the whole weekend in Atlanta playing Guitar Hero 2... and yes, it was awesome! For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a game for Playstation 2. It's basicaly like guitar karaoke. It just came out Wednesday and has a lot more games than the first one and you can do multi-player with one person playing lead, the other bass. I spent the whole weekend opening up levels/songs. I think I've found the new love of my life.

When I did break away from my virtual rockstar life, I was watching movies. HBO has been playing one of my favorite movies a lot lately — Prime. It's a fabulous movie, with some really great actors: Meryl Streep, Uma Thurman, Bryan Greenberg. If you have time, you should definitely check it out. I also made it to see Babel. That was a really amazing movie. The movie had a lot of layers, but I found that it was mostly about the breakdown of communication between people and cultures. Every actor in the movie was great. And one of my favorite actors, Gael Garcia Bernal, is in it. His part is smaller, but he is complete and really delivers.

So, I watched great movies and played Guitar Hero 2... you'd think I've used up all my luck, but no! I came to work today and got to play the new Nintendo Wii, which doesn't come out until next Monday.

On my daily show, Attack of the Show, we played the Wii game that comes with the console. It has a lot of different sports games and today I got to do the boxing. It was so much fun. It comes with two sensor controllers: joystick and nunchuck. The game is really user-friendly and you can even design yourself on the game... mine has hazel eyes, long black hair and freckles.

This Friday, Nov. 17, Attack of the Show is doing a two-hour Playstation 3 special. We'll have all the latest news and be playing games on the console live!

I'm so tired, so I gotta get to bed... I'll let you know how this week turns out for me in my next blog... Until then, goodnight!

I was just introduced to Guitarhero this weekend. I have to admit I sucked! :-p

What a neat job to be able to play video games all day! Well of course hosting the show is part of it, but it sounds really fun!

Video games and movies make up your perfect weekend? Now I am convinced you are my kind of woman.

My weekend was pretty similar, except it was Lego Star Wars 2 and Stranger Than Fiction. Its definitely not your typical Will Ferrell movie but its still a good movie, though not as many laughs as you might expect.

I've been curious about Guitar Hero, it looks pretty cool. I'm guessing you don't have to know how to play guitar in order to play it, but it looks pretty fun. Maybe my wife will whisper to Santa to bring it for me this year.

I think the Wii will be good, but Nintendo burned their bridges with me years ago. They didn't adjust their games to the age of their audience, they kept going younger and younger. I mean honestly, how many adventures can Mario and Luigi have? Ugh..As Nintendo's original audience got older, their sophistication got older too. Nintendo focused on Pokemon, Sony focused on GTA. Basically, Nintendo Wii is targeted towards soccer moms. What mid-level or even hardcore gamer will be comforted by the fact that he/she shares a game system in common with Peggy from suburbia.

So while I'm sure I'll play Wii at some point, it's not on my wish list. Besides, that name is ridiculous, they should have stuck with Revolution.

I'm really enjoying reading your blog Olivia. Do those monitor head guys on your set creep you out? Especially when they have the big eyes on them.

I had segment idea, what about good 'couples' games? You know games that couples can play together like Hot Shots Golf or Mario Cart, etc.

Olivia + TV Guide = Crazy Delicious. Is that joke still funny? Who cares. I am glad Kevin allowed you to play Guitar Hero on your own. You didn't have it on expert did you? Maybe I should have posted this under your first blog, but I'm all about new blogs, so here goes: Attack of the Show does not get its deserved credit. I am not that much of a gamer- I only buy wrestling and baseball video games- but AOTS is a great show. The humor is smart and it is so much more than a video game show. Forget Jon Stewart, I get all my news from The Feed on AOTS. Olivia, you rock, and even though I was not picked to be a cohost on the show (I'll keep trying though), I still say Attack is one most enjoyable hours on television. In fact, it should be featured in TV Guide- cover story. (I would say it should be one of TV Guide's best shows you're not watching, but I'm watching, so heck with everyone else. HECK!).

I totally agree with you re: Prime. Awesome movie. I'm not a huge chick flick fan, but the writing for this one was really great. The ending was nice... not cheesy in the slightest, which is like unheard of for chick flicks.

Keep up the awesomeness on AOTS. You and Kevin crack me up. :)

Congrats on the new blog! I saw it on your myspace page and surfed over to check it out. Is Kevin jealous?

Your weekend sounds like a lot of fun. I'm saving up to get Guitar Hero 2 myself so my friends and I can play the two player.

Have a nice holiday!
