From Making Out to Getting Tied Up
Holy flaming monkey skat! The Vancouver Canucks cannot hold a lead. Up 2-0 going into the third period at home against Anaheim, and it should be lights-out time. But no, not for these guys. Its tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, and of course as expected, they go on to lose in overtime. Good god, how much of this suffering can a hockey fan expect to take?!
Oh, right, this is a TV Guide blog, not ESPN. Well, this is the first time I've ever done one of these things, so bear with me and my random thought processes as I attempt to make this halfway coherent.
I managed to catch the last episode of 24 on Monday. If any of you out there did, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that you know almost everything about me. Believe it or not, there's actually more male almost-nudity in the following week's episodes as well. Oh well, it's a living. I can say that it's more fun to watch yourself on TV like this — especially when seated beside your lovely wife — making out with and tearing the clothes off of another woman. Lord knows my wife understands; that was how we first met. Maybe I should shut up now….
This Friday on Sci Fi Channel is the Stargate SG-1 episode entitled "The Shroud," where Daniel Jackson makes his anticipated return as a "Prior of the Ori." Is he evil, or is he just dressed that way? I tell ya, this one was as much fun to shoot as a colonoscopy. What with five hours of makeup each morning for a seven-day shoot, contact lenses that blind you (literally) and feel like needles coming into and out of your eyes, and mountains of expository backstory, I was fit to be tied. Oh, yeah, and they did that, too — strapped me to a chair for 25 out of a 44-minute episode, and had me speak techno-business and hoo-ja-ma-whatzit mythology. It was a pure recipe for Tylenol 3. But I watched it the other day, and it's not half bad! Richard Dean Anderson makes a comeback appearance, and we get to verbally spar a little bit. Overall, I think it works. I won't tell ya the ending, but I will say my favorite part of the episode got cut out — watch for when Woolsey (Bob Picardo) gets thrown up against a wall. Andy Mikita, the director, had filmed him in a shot with pee running down his leg.
I guess it was too risqué for prime time.

Michael,
Just wanted to wish you a welcome to the Blogging community and love the insight into "24" and "The Shroud"!
I enjoyed seeing you on "24";your portrayal of Mark Bishop very intresting and what xposure for you; and don't mean the lack of clothes! Just bummed they have figured your character out so soon. Ah well bring on Mondays eps!
The Shroud is one of my best eps ever! Its a real team episode and even though know you suffered in the makeup chair the episode to me was well worth what you went through. And nice to hear that you enjoyed it when you finally watched it.
And Judicial Indiscretion; your portrayal of Jack Sullivan was very scary but very well played by you I always have one line in my head "why didn't you just pay me" not sure why that sticks in my head but it does.
Waiting to see your Farewell from the cast at Scifi site; and may I wish you and CJ good luck with Slacktwaddle as we wait for the Men of Scifi Calendar and anything else you have planned
And just got done watching the Ducks and Canucks; sorry to see Vancouver season finish; you have to admit it was an intresting series. Well who do you cheer on now? Notice that you favorite or was your favorite defenseman is now playing in Detroit; how about cheering them on?
Like to say Thanks for coming on to talk to you fans and give insight into what you do for a living; behind the scenes stuff has always been intresting for me!
Sue
P.S.- Saw the cast farewell now got me intrigued about the second movie. It was very nice what you said "thanks" again.

MICHAEL!
Yes, I'm really that excited. Welcome to our little corner of the cyberworld. I've been highly anticipating your blog here (and I know for a fact I'm not the only one) and you didn't disappoint. What a great start!
Now I don't watch 24, but I've been thinking I may have to start. I'm a new fan of SG-1 this season, although I've been trying to get caught up. (9 past seasons is a lot of catching up to do!) It's great to have Daniel back. I tend to take the makeup aspect for granted until someone brings it up, but I guess that's a sign of a good makeup artist? You look wonderfully creepy as a Prior.
Did I mention I'm thrilled to have you here?

Hi, Michael. Nice to see you online. Had to laugh at the Woolsey scene. Poor guy gets no respect.
We're enjoying "24" but were relieved to find out you weren't interacting with Jack Bauer. People tend to get their body parts sawed off when they meet up with him ... Annie

Michael, Great to see your blog up and running. Oh if only they had kept the Woolsey peeing his pants scene. That would have been priceless. Ive seen all of season 10 SG1 and just wanted to say I loved it. Thankyou, Jane.

Great job with your first blog!!
It was fun watching 24 last Monday. I'm looking forward to next week. And I know of several people who have studied your scenes in 24 and, as you said, "you know almost everything about me".
I've enjoyed watch SG-1 all these years, but it's nice to see you expanding your career.
Can't wait to see "The Shroud" tomorrow.

Michael,
Thank you for starting this blog. I'm a huge fan. I've been watching SG-1 for many years, and yours has always been my favorite character! I'm still not happy with the fact that SG-1 has been canceled, but it was a nice long run and I can't wait to see the movies!
Saw 24 last Monday. You were great in it. Looking forward to the next two episodes as well!
I too am a Hockey fan! Living in the Detroit area I root for the Wings though!
Keep up the great work!!

Hey Michael, welcome to the blogging community! =)
I feel your playoff pain--here in Cape Breton we have the Screaming Eagles, our QMJHL team, who blew their chance to get to the league final in spectacular fashion. Dropping 3-0 leads in games, a 3-1 series lead, and now they're out. (I'm not even going near the NHL but I will cheer on Vancouver just to spite Anaheim; that'll learn 'em to beat out Minnesota =P ) Hockey can be so depressing.
Anyway! I just wanted to say I very much enjoyed your appearance on 24 and am looking forward to the rest--and the fact I've been an SG-1 fan for the past 459824705 years means I LOVED The Shroud. =) Great job!

Hey Michael!
I'm glad to read your blog and can understand your feelings about hockey. I married a hockey player (high school only) who grew up on the ice. The Wings play their next two games against the Sharks in Detroit and if they win both, they go on to the next round. WooHoo! I went to see my first Detroit game when they played at the Olympia in Detroit long before you were even born! What can I say, it's in the blood.
ANYWAY, I thought you did a great job portraying Dr. Jackson. Much better than Spader did and Anderson portrayed O'Neill a whole lot better than Russell. (I just cannot picture those two in the TV series). I also think your role on 24 is great. Much different from what we usually see on that show. It's a nice twist. Can you tell us if you'll be back next season as Bishop? It would be great to see you back as a regular in a series. Maybe a comedy but your serious work is great, too.
Keep up the good work!

Hello Michael, welcome to the world of the blog people. I love this season of SG1 but I will have to wait for a while for the new season of 24. I am from Croatia, televison stations in Croatia cannot decide to buy or not to buy Stargate SG1 so I am watching SG1 on Sky One. Love the episode Shroud, keep up with good work.

Hi Michael! Great to have your first episode air - looking forward to seeing it in the UK next week. *More* almost nudity of the male variety? We can live with it.
Seriously, great to see you on a show of the calibre of 24, can't wait to see how the storyline develops.
We've already seen the rest of S10 of SG1 here, of course - really like the job you did, all of you, actually. But as to what you're writing above, I bet Bob Picardo just *loved* the pee shot, lol.

Michael:
Welcome to the world of TVGuide.com blogging.
Great first post. Very revealing first episode of 24 about your character, though I really wish they hadn't told us so much about the nature of your character so soon. I think a little bit more a of a suspenseful buildup would have been good.
However I do understand that with Mark Bishop being introduced with so little time remaining in the current 'day' of 24 that the writers probably felt it was necessary to get things up to speed as quickly as possible so they could throw Bishop into the action.
Thanks for giving us a little inside scoop on what we could have seen in The Shroud, that's always something interesting to read about, please share more if possible.
However, just my opinion, but I'm glad they left it out. Having Woolsey being shown as that frightened of Daniel, would seem like he was harboring some deep seated concern that Daniel wanted to hurt him over the decisions made about Khalek and to me that just isn't Daniel.
One of Daniel's greatest strengths to me is his sense of humanity. Having Woolsey see him as someone who had lost all sense of that humanity, so much so to be frightened of him would have been sad for me to see.
Ok off that ramble. Thanks for being here and look forward to reading more of your thoughts and comments.

Hi Michael!
Speaking of almost male nudity (you brought it up first, not me.....) between 24 and Judicial Indiscretion, we have been getting pretty familiar with your navel, not that I am complaining. And, I hope that this is a good preview of the Men of Scifi calendar, hint, hint.
Since you said in Vancouver that you had bruises, I am going to assume that in future 24 episodes Mark gets whumped. Poor guy! At least for now he won't be killed like Jack Sullivan - enough with the dying already! I can't help but notice similarities between Jack and Mark - both seductive and charming, but with ulterior motives.
I find the filming style of 24 to be extremely annoying, but because you are on it, I will watch it. I just wish you had more scenes! You can quote me on that if you like when you talk to the producers. 8-)
I'd like to second what someone else said - I think you would be great doing comedy - I have seen you and Chris Judge on stage together and the two of you are hysterical!
Looking forward to your next blog!
