Survivorman
Hey-ho, Dunder-Mifflin fans. OK, I know — who am I calling a ho? Takes one to know one. It is me (or should I say I?), Meredith, the Office party gal here to let you know what to expect this week. This week the multi-talented Steve Carell decided to get off his butt and write another script. I am being facetious, of course... about getting off his butt, not writing another script. Steve is one of the hardest-working men in showbiz. I don't know when he finds time to sleep.
Have you seen Dan in Real Life? If you haven't, you should. Our whole cast got to go to the opening two weeks ago at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, which I had never been to before. That was the most intense red carpet that I have ever been on outside of the Emmys. Those Hollywood Boulevard theaters really do it up. The photographers were screaming my name to the point where I couldn't see straight — and I wasn't even in the movie! It was a really fun night. Steve is great in this film. It is a very sweet and funny story with a lot of heart. Steve is appealing and adorable. It is the perfect autumn love story. Ladies, if you can, sneak out of work early and catch a 4 o'clock show that gets you out just after dark and just in time to get home to dinner on time.... Are you with me? Maybe stop by for one quick snort on the way home?
Where was I? Oh, yeah. Steve Carell. You remember him. He wrote the very funny "Casino Night" episode from Season 2 and he hasn't written an episode since. I think he has outdone himself. "Survivorman" is Michael Scott's attempt at roughing it in the wild. While he is gone, he has put Jim in charge. And Jim is pushed beyond his comfort level.
We had a lot of fun party scenes in this episode. Ain't no party like a Scranton party 'cause a Scranton party don't stop! This is the dream job, baby. Which brings me to the very sobering truth we are all facing right now: the big fat writers' strike, which began Monday morning. It has been pretty crazy. I am very sad to say that we are not working right now. Steve wouldn't cross the picket line. (He is also a writer. Can you blame him?) While I am very sad about not working, I agree with the writers. I think they need to fight for these issues on the table. The Internet and DVDs are making someone a lot of money, but not writers or actors. I have no idea when this will get resolved, so please be patient. We have to stand up for what we believe. Let's hope the resolution comes quickly without much job loss. If you don't pray, maybe you should start. If you don't drink, maybe you should start.
So for all you Office fans, enjoy this new episode while you can. I am going to keep my nose clean, my drawers clean, my closets clean, etc. I got some time on my hands. Thanks for all your support.
Watch The Office Thursdays at 9 pm/ET on NBC. I'll drink to that.

I saw Dan In Real Life at a sneak preview at my school and I loved it. I have gone around telling everybody they must see it. Because it is an awesome movie. (and Steve is very un Michael like).
And when I found out Steve was writing this episode, yeah, I was squealing. None of my friends (idiots) understood why I was so happy about a writer.
And I support the writers 100%, but I also admit, it sucks for everyone who is affected. I have been reading everything I can about the strike since Monday, and its just fascinating, but very sad. I hope for a quick resolution. But I am also glad how much the cast and crew are sticking by the writers, even though they are basically out of a job right now.
A lot of hearts and minds are with the writers, and hoping this gets settled.

Kate, thank you so much for your blog; I really love to read it!
I also saw Dan in Real Life at a sneak preview, but I wasn't at school and I had to pay for it. It was well worth the money; because I LMAO! I still smile thinking about the "Piggie" song!
I also support the writers, but I hope that everyone is able to come to a resolution quickly, because as with all strikes, it's the fans who get hurt the most.
Until next week?

Thanks for the update Kate!
I am so sorry to hear about the writers strike; I just might have to take up your suggestion of drinking (joking! actually, I'm just looking for something other to do than watch tv)
Good luck getting through this time. I bet it's hard not going to work at a place that you really love.

Kate, we've got your backs on the strike. It's so scary...our teachers' union was seconds from striking two years ago and I was terrified. No work. No money. But, it had to be done.
By the way, where were John, Jenna, Steve and Rainn during convention?
Oh...loved, loved, loved Dan in Real Life.

I'm very sorry to hear about the strike but I'm behind the writers 150%! Praying for a quick and good resolution for the WGA.
Thanks for taking the time to blog!

Dan in Real Life was a great movie! I went to see it as soon as I got home from the Office Convention. I figured I may as well go support Steve since I was hanging out with his co-workers all weekend haha.
I support the writers strike. You wouldnt think it would be so hard to give someone the compensation they deserve.. but I guess it is. Hopefully it will be resolved soon, I would hate to miss out on any new episodes of The Office!

Kate,
Just wanted to let you know that I'm completely behind the writers and the cast for supporting them. I was lucky enough to mee you and many of the writers at the convention in Scranton and they are such a talented and funny group that really take their craft seriously. They should be compensated as such. I know that I personally would be willing to pay a little more for DVDs, online stuff, etc. to ensure that.
Hang in there!

Kate, Add me to the list of people who are supporting the writers. There would be no office without the writers or actors so they are very much entitles to a share of any online profits being made. Although I am sad that we only have to more new episodes of The Office, I truly support you guys and hope the writers get everything they are asking for.

To begin on a light note, I absolutely adored "Dan in Real Life" and have been spreading the word. The uber-talented Steve Carell has quickly risen to the top of my "favorite leading man" list! Go see this movie, people . . . you won't be disappointed.
As with every other devoted Office fan, I'm saddened to hear about the strike - not only because it means less of the show we've come to adore, but moreso for the effect it will have on the people who work so hard to make it a reality. Best of luck for a speedy resolution to this unfortunate situation! In the meantime, I am counting down the minutes until "Survivorman."
Try to stay positive, Kate, and thanks again for another fine blog!

Oh c'mon now Kate, you can't tell me the photographers at the movie premier were screaming your name more than the fans at the Office Convention!
I absolutely loved the birthday scenes from this episode. They hit so close to home with all the birthdays in my office. No one at my job is very creative in trying to surprise people though. It's always "Spontaneous meeting in the conference room on my birthday? I wonder why!"
And skip out of work early to go see a 4:00 showing of the movie? Can you explain that to my boss please? I mean half the time I have trouble making it home in time to see The Office. (No lie.)
As for the strike, I will be praying and drinking with you. The writers and all of you who aren't being compensated for your work have my TOTAL support. Obviously it's going to kill me to go without my Office Thursdays, but it's a sacrifice I'm glad to make in support of all of you.
In the mean time, if your liquor money runs out while you're not working, just hit me up. See, I told you I support you.

Please hang in there Kate! It must be so hard for you! I hope you're okay sticking it out! I'm worried about you. The writers sure need to get what they deserve! I know it's hard! But please hang in there! Hopefully everyone will get what they deserve. And we can soon have our show back! We love you!!
