Did You Guess Correctly?

Okay, week two. Did you guess who was on the plane last week? Liar! I didn’t see it coming, and neither did you, but I have a feeling that you are pleasantly surprised by it. I was. I won’t mention his name because some of you probably still need to go see it on VOD, and I’m not going to be the one to wreck it. Nothing’s worse than some jack-ass who tells you that at the end of The Sixth Sense that Bruce Willis is DEAD! By the way, I am also of the opinion that there is a statute of limitations and that after a certain amount of time you can’t claim I let the horse out of the stable. You, as a viewer, have a certain responsibility to stay up to date on certain current events. In the case of a movie, I’m going to say you have one year from original theatrical release. In television you have one year from the end of that particular season. And in the case of sports you have until the next day. If you’re recording that night’s game and don’t watch it for a couple of days, you have bigger problems than me telling you the score. So with that in mind… Ed Norton and Brad Pitt are the same person in Fight Club, Ted Danson pulls off his hairpiece at the end of Cheers, and the NY Giants came back at the end to win last year’s Super Bowl. Ahhhhh. That felt good to get off my chest. On to this week.

Now, the most important thing to remember about this week’s episode, “The Dinner Party,” is that I am ACTING! In no way does my personal life resemble the character of Mike Callahan. It is simply a part that I play. Whatever horrible and deviant things that Mike says are written for him by a staff of horrible and deviant writers. Those are the people to blame if there is something about my character that you find offensive. That being said, I feel like there are a few of my friends who will try to tell you that I’m exactly like that. Don’t believe them. They’re liars and will be punished later for wronging me. Is “wronging” even a word? I don’t know. But it sounds right. Anyway…

The name of the episode tells you a lot. There is a dinner party. We’ve all been to them. A little food, a lot of vino and some hooking up. It was one of my favorites. We also introduce a new female character who is shockingly beautiful, one of those girls who is so attractive that looking at her is like looking at the sun. If you look too long, it will burn your eyes out. She’s a Swedish model. I think that says it all. “Swedish model” just sounds redundant.

Shooting this episode was great. I can always tell the funny ones because we end up breaking a lot when we shoot it. One of the great things about working with such a funny cast is that they make you laugh all day. This was one of those weeks. We felt a little like the late Harvey Korman and Tim Conway on The Carol Burnett Show. And if you don’t know who I’m talking about …go buy the DVDs right now! Comedic genius! Not that I would dare to compare us to them, but I got a feeling as to how much fun they had when they worked. Most days I can’t believe this is my job.

Well, that’s it for now. There are storylines set in motion that I’m sure will illicit some responses from you all, and I can’t wait to hear your opinions. Remember, points are awarded for witty comments. Lets see who can come up with the best log line for “The Dinner Party.” See you next week.

My friend actually guessed correctly. I on the other hand have been corrupted by shows like Lost so I try to think of the complete craziest and unlikely idea and try to predict that will happen since I'm always shocked by what happens. So I was prepared for PJ to be on the plane with her dad or something.

So since your defending your character before the show even airs I can only guess that there is some douchieness (now that, I don't think is a word) that's going to go down. Can't wait!

Also, can you not bring up the Pats losing the Super Bowl. It still stings.

Jamie, I've enjoyed your first two blog postings, but I think you should feel free to discuss anything about an episode that has already aired. Anybody who is worried about spoilers shouldn't be seeking out a blog about the show.

By the way, I guessed who was on the plane last September when the season ended. I'm not a liar! (I posted my guess on the My Boys blog on this website, and I wasn't the only one to get it right.) P.J. had her chance at Thorn, the Cub, and the botanist and found each of them lacking in some way. I'm glad she chose Bobby, even if Italy didn't work out the way she'd hoped.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here. I'm also curious about the bad behavior from Mike this week. It must be pretty obnoxious if you felt the need to explain that you and Mike are not the same person.

Oh how I LOVE this show. Yeah, Mike was pretty douchy - what up with his bringing a gay guy for PJ AND being such a jerk with the ladies? Somewhere in there is some sensitivity, but it makes it that much more special when we see it, since we see it so rarely.

And Bobby! So dense. I mean, they can't put PJ and Bobby together too soon, but damn, the hot nanny? What a blow for PJ. It hurts when you really like someone and that person just doesn't see it. Sigh...

So many awesome lines tonight!

"No, no, this feels good. We're almost 30 and we're playing a game that says recommended age 3 to 5."

"Tomorrow night, 8:00, don't be drunk."

"-Torpedo me, how?
-The pillowcase underpants story, the video of you line-dancing, oh, the time you made your own self-tannner."

"I mean it's been days since I've gotten drunk and watched Point Break."

"-I just brought by some chocolate and an army knife.
-Nooo. Sweden."

"All day long I have to act professional, and all night long, I have to suck in my gut and be mature ---I'm exhausted, I need a break."

"I'm gonna' go meditate. I mean pee. I can say it here, can't I..."

"My G-d, I just wanna' break him in two and suck out the middle."

"-It's not fair, I'm a family guest!
-Whaaa----?"

"Close the bar. My house just became pants optional."

My husband I at first thought the two girls were going to end up being lesbians, but once we saw the hot guy Mike brought we guessed he'd be gay. Love that it turned out Mike was playing in a gay basketball league!!

I'm so glad Kenny finally got some girl attention. Its about time! I really want the writers to come up w/a great backstory as to why Stephanie and Kenny dislike each other. I saw on the special features of the Season 1 discs that the actress who plays Stephanie just made up on the spot the dislike for Kenny. Its one of the funniest running gags on the show.

Is it me or does PJ look even more gorgeous this season than last? What a treat to see her all "done up" at the dinner party last night - in a skirt no less!

Escape-thanks for noting all the great lines. So funny!! Andy cracks me up everytime. I liked seeing Meredith again. Have we ever met Savannah?

Mike, thanks for the great blog, you big ol' douche! :)

Thanks for all your great posts and each week is different. At first I didn't want to spill too many beans, but as we go on I delve a little deeper. I also tried to talk about what it is like to work on a show like "My Boys". It was a pretty crazy season of shooting. So, let me know what you think.

So glad that the show is back, and so glad that you're blogging about it, Jamie. Your character, Mike, consistently makes me laugh out loud, so kudos to you.

I did not guess correctly. I had assumed that it wouldn't be one of the "regular" boys, but I was wrong. I like Bobby's character, so I was a little disappointed to see him with the Swedish nanny.

Is anyone else confused by Andy's character? At first he "hates" his wife, and then we find out that he really loves his wife and wants to spend time with her. Then he hates his life in the suburbs so his wife agrees to move back to the city to make him happy, and now he's obsessed with his nanny? He is a conundrum. Is he a nice guy/husband, or not?! They're making it hard for me to decide.
