From the World of the Sexiest Star....

Alright — before we get started, have you seen the cover of the May 5 TV Guide? Jennifer Love Hewitt is featured as the 'Sexiest Woman on TV.' She wins hands down, we can tell you. And did you see today's issue of People? Love is featured as one of the 100 Most Beautiful People. Having worked with her for 3 1/2 years — we say she is the most beautiful person inside and out. Truly!

It's the end of the week and you know what that means — another installment of Ghost Whisperer. "Deadbeat Dads" had unique comedy flair to it. The script was beautifully written by our newest addition to the Ghost Whisperer writing staff — Mark Perry. Mark joins us from the writing staff of Brothers & Sisters. He's worked with P.K. Simonds who jumped aboard the Ghost Whisperer train at the beginning of Season 3 (as you all are very well aware!). Mark and P.K. worked together on Party of Five (Jennifer Love Hewitt's old stomping ground).

Mark's script made us laugh during production — nothing better than funny ghost antics. But the story turns serious and emotional — we were so moved by the storytelling and the acting and we hope you were too when you watched the episode tonight.

While we were shooting this episode, Jay Mohr spent quite a bit of time reminding all of us that he sleeps with his Ghost Whisperer co-star! That being his real-life wife, Nikki Cox (Las Vegas) who guest stars as Professor Payne's ex-girlfriend in this episode. This episode gives you a chance to explore the personal side of the Professor and answers the mystery that was set-up last season in Episode 220 when Payne's wife revealed herself to Melinda.

In this episode, Melinda helps Payne juggle an old flame (Cox), her 10-year-old son (Nathan Gamble of Babel) and the jealous ghost of Payne's deceased wife (the very talented Rachel Shelley of The L Word). Rachel has been with us several times during episodic production and we're lucky to have her because she's talented, lovely and beautiful.

There is another surprise in this episode — the conclusion of Ghost Whisperer's award-winning web series, THE OTHER SIDE II. Zach — the ghost featured in the web series, finally connects with Melinda Gordon and ... Uh-we're not telling you what happens. If you can, watch the THE OTHER SIDE I and THE OTHER SIDE II before you watch this episode to find out what really happens, you'll really get it.

In this episode we feature a powerful song by pop-sensation Sia: "Day Too Soon" (Hear Music). We hope you love it as much was we do in this show.

We're attaching the links for PROFESSOR PAYNE'S BRAIN – an interactive flash game that we created to get you ready for this episode - and HOUSE OF PAYNE – a unique online video featuring who else but PROFESSOR PAYNE.

And it's not too late to get the outfit worn by Melinda in last week's episode! Go to CBS.auction.seenon.com or check out our widget at FansOfGW.com and place your bid in the first ever Ghost Whisperer Auction, before it ends on Monday!

Have a great weekend and check-in with us next week.

While not one of the best episodes, "Deadbeat Dads" was very good. Again, I had lots of trouble believing the story.

First, it was more than reasonable for Professor Payne to have asked Niki if it was his son. If she said yes, then he should have yelled at her for not telling him all of these years. .... Last, it seemed ridiculous for Melinda to be shedding tears all over her face at the very end. I really wasn't sure why - whether she was happy, sad or just trying to show her ability to produce a bucket full of tears?

However, it was good to address the issue of deadbeat dads. That is a real problem that many kids and mothers suffer with in real life. Also, Jay Mohr and his real life wife were really good in this episode.

Yes, I saw the TV Guide cover and also voted for JLH on the TV Guide Web site and got an advance notice of her ranking. She does deserve it for sure!

Loved Friday's show, as usual, and didn't know Professor Payne's first name was Rick - has it been used before and I missed it? Couldn't take my eyes of his wife's (and ex girl's) lips and forgive me for asking but are they real or plumped up?

Thought the story was excellent and really believed the boy was his son. Where did he get his brains from if not Professor Payne!

Was a good story. And as for
"Melinda" crying, what I got thru that show was her realizing the pain his wife felt at not being able to get pregnant and realized where her husband was coming from in being upset that she didn't want to have a baby, now, and THAT is why she did. Kim & Ian - am I not right?

Really a heartbreaker and to me it was VERY real!!

lol I couldn't take my eyes off her lips either. I don't think they are real because I don't remember being that distracted by her when I watched Vegas. In fact, I didn't even realize that was the same person. Celebrities, please leave your mouths alone. It looks unnatural.

I love Payne so enjoyed the episode.

Exactly - Melinda was in tears because she realized that she was putting Jim through the exact same torture that Payne did with his wife.

Thanks Ranger - nice to know I'm not thinking alone - especially when it seems so obvious to me. Say, have you heard any news on how Vickie Jean is? Concerned nobody's posted anything about her & hope she's doing well.

No word on Vickie Jean - hope all is well!

NOTE: There were two scenes in which Melinda's face was wet. I agree that the first one was when she realized that she was doing the same to Jim. It was the second scene that I was referring to, when her face was drenched with tears ONE SECOND BEFORE Payne's wife walks into the light.

Besides the two problems that I previously mentioned, there was lots more wrong with this story that I didn't write about like:

a) Payne's wife initially accused him of not wanting kids and at the end, Payne stated that he wanted her all to himself. So, how does a guy like that manage to impregnate Nikki?

b) It was not reasonable for Nikki to expect Payne to pay for her son's education and never refer to him as "his son" and when that happens, her silence would be equivalent to lying.

c) Payne could of asked the boy who his father was? In real life, they know. Mothers always tell their sons who their fathers are, as it is their right to know. Although, some mothers may lie.

----

Again, I'm not saying this is a bad episode. It's just not one of the best.

I am right there with you on this one. I sure hope that was not a permanent cosmetic procedure she had done because they looked terrible! Her lips were not that bad on Las Vegas.

What happened to story line with Payne's wife going off with Gabriel? While I'm glad he finally forgave her etc I did think they came out of the blue with this story line.

I agree. It seems to me that they wanted to do an episode on "deadbeat dads" as they have with other social issues. However, the writer did not think the story out so that it makes sense. So, this episode comes across as contrived and ridiculous (to viewers who think about what they watch).

I guess I was just busy enjoying the show, because I didn't notice any inconsistencies and went with the flow and it all sat right with me. Makes me happy, when I read other peoples comments on inconsistency and things that really bothered them, that I was able to love the show and not see anything I found fault with.
