And now for something a little different....

Hello there Hidden Palms People!

My, but you continue to be a loyal lot and for that we are going to do something a little different this week.

YOU ALL GET TO PLAY NETWORK EXECUTIVES!!!

As our little show winds down to the finale on July 4, something has been gnawing at me. How come no one ever asks the viewers how they might have done the show differently? Well now is the time to change that!! Enough of me prattling on about how this plot turn is cool and that actor is fun and all that...!!!

Here is the deal. After viewing Wednesday’s two episodes, I stand ready to answer all questions and deal with all comments related to how you, the viewer, would have done the show differently. By that I mean:

1. Would you have done the plot twists differently?
2. Would you have liked to see other actors in the roles? Go ahead! Fire me! See what you end up with.
3. Would you have liked certain elements to have been expanded upon or perhaps not introduced at all???
4. And of course, share anything else that comes to your devious minds!

Finally, I want you all to know that I will get to your questions/comments as much as I can. If I miss a few, don’t take it personally. It just might be a question of time.

Enjoy the show(s) on Wednesday. Remember, two new episodes! And fire away with those ideas!

Till then,
D.W.

DW,

I found your blog last week. Thanks for taking the time to post.

I really hope this show gets renewed. I am a big fan of Kevin Williamson and I really think if given a chance, this show would really be successful.

I will post again after tonight...

> 1. Would you have done the plot twists differently?

I've really enjoyed the writing on this series. I find it smart, funny, suspenseful and even funny at times. While it is not as intricate as say a show like Lost, it does what it came in to do and I believe it does it well.

> 2. Would you have liked to see other actors in the

You are perfect in the roll of Bob. You and Gail pair up so well together. You two really should work more together. Amber is about my only grievance in terms of acting. I really do like her and thought she was smart and funny in the pilot, but thought she lost a lot of that personality that I so endeared as the show has progressed. Ellary is my favorite. For someone with such a short resume, she really made her part shine in What Liza Beneath and Mulligan. I didn't think she'd have much to do in the series until those episodes, but OMG! When she did. WOW!

> 3. Would you have liked certain elements to have been
> expanded upon or perhaps not introduced at all???

I want to know what the story line was going to be with Valerie Cruz's original character!!! For those of us who got to see the leaked pilot, it was a great role. Do you know where that storyline would have headed?

I really wanted to see more of the great writing like we saw in the Cafe scene between Johnny and Greta in the Pilot. That was such a fun witty scene with lots of depth and was great for character building. When we saw their Q&QA scene in Ghosts things felt a bit more dry and sullen.

> 4. And of course, share anything else that comes to
> your devious minds!

When can we find out if we'll get a second season of Hidden Palms??? I just read you are going to play Brett Cullen on Life Is Wild! Does this mean you wouldn't be available to resume your role as Bob Hardy if the show got picked back up?

There are so many who want a second season of this show and I can attest that the fan base *is* growing! Unfortunately probably not as much as The CW would like.

Finally. If this show does get canceled. Can you please appeal to Kevin Williams for us to release the storylines for the 13 additional episodes that he said have already been written? It would be a shame for that to be lost forever.

Thank you so much for your blog and keeping in touch with your fans!

LOVE the show and the fact that you have this column. Thank You! ... why is the network ending this terrific t.v. show? The fan base is growing, it's totally engrossing, the adults are getting more lines and stories (yay) and I sincerely hope that there is some way to bring it 'on back'..

Great episodes tonight!

OK - here's my 2 cents....
1. Would you have done the plot twists differently?

The show is fairly well written, but it moved too slowly the first two episodes and wasted valuable time. The plot twists were OK for the most part - I especially liked the ending of tonight's second episode when Eddie was on camera with - well, no spoiler from me! But - I think it would have been more twisted for Eddie's father to still be in the picture. Also - where are Liza's parents. I'm still confused why she is working as a waitress when she lives in what is clearly an affluent neighborhood.

2. Would you have liked to see other actors in the roles?
The adult actors are great (especially you!). But I have a problem with the younger set. The actresses playing Liza and Nikki are terrific - I would keep them. And I'm sure the other actors are good - but they just don't seem comfortable in these roles. Plus - Liza and Greta's portrayers, frankly, look enough alike to be sisters. So unless there is another sick plot yet to unfold - we could have done with a bit more variety - and a bit more experience. These other actors were just too stilted for my taste.

3. Would you have liked certain elements to have been expanded upon or perhaps not introduced at all???

Get rid of the affair with Eddie's mother. That's just sick. And Bob and Karen's marriage seemed to go into the toilet a bit too quickly. Should have introduced more tension earlier on if that was going to be the case.

4. And of course, share anything else that comes to your devious minds!

What do you hear about a second season?

The only suggestions I have for the show are
1) keep the dark mystery aspect (it makes the show unique)
2) make the show less predictable or seemingly contrived (I get tired of some people saying that the show is unoriginal/derivative)
3) make the story more eerie and darker

I have a couple questions
1) Why did Amber Heard change her hair color
2) Will there be a Season 1 DVD set (I would like to buy one)

Also, from what I believe next Wednesday is the Series Finale. If the show does not get saved then can you make sure to ask Kevin Williamson if he would somehow release the Season 2 storylines(arcs), mysteries, and new characters, etc. I'm dying to know. I believe he said that he has already sketched out the episodes for season 2. I also believe the finale is supposed to open new mysteries and leave a CLIFFHANGER. How I can live without knowing what's in store for a Season 2?!!!

Awesome episodes last night. Thanks for connecting with the fans and taking the time to answer questions. You are awesome!

Jason Dohring should have played Cliff because Cliff is just another name for Logan Echolls.

The adults are beautifully cast and play their parts extremely well. I don't find Johnny or Eddie particularly good looking, however. It's good to see Tessa Thompson (also from Veronica Mars, as is Kyle Secor) again. Valerie Cruz was definitely underutilized on The Dresden Files.

I was surprised to get hooked by this show. I don't think I would change anything. Maybe Bob & Karen's marriage. They have hardly had any happy scenes. I was glad to see Sharon Lawrence and Gail O'Grady reunited from NYPD Blue and also happy to See Kyle Secor from Homicide: Life on the Street (which I record every day!). There have been some complaints about the younger actors. The only one I don't think has acted very well is "Greta"-too wooden. I hope that if the show does end, all the questions get answered.

I love the show and the only thing that I would have liked to see different would be: MORE EPISODES.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this show....it's my summer One Tree Hill...if i can't watch either i'm not gunna lie i'm most likely not going to watch the CW because there is noting else worth watching all the good shows got cacnelled in my opinion and Gossip Girl is the only new show that looks half decent. the only thing i can suggest to make this show better is to keep it going! give it a chance...oth didn't do so well the first season, i'm sure lots of shows dont do well with only 8 episodes just give it a chance and i know it'll soar!

Firstly I'll answer your questions.

1) Plots in my opinion were slow to start, but pretty good I would only change one thing More Liza! And more Cliff. Nikki is also a great asset. I'd have liked more of an ensemble cast.

2) Actors were spot on I wouldn't change a thing. I have to disagree with others on here Jason couldn't hold a candle to Michael's portrayl of Cliff. Please I love Jason Dohring but let's keep the Logan Echolls comparison's away from Hidden Palms. Not the same in the least. Michael Cassidy owns Cliff and I wouldn't have it any other way.

3)The elements that I would have liked expanded upon would have been more mystery and intrigue. There was alot of slow moments there (especially in the first 3 eps) and I would have loved for maybe more flashbacks in the begining for the pilot ep. Oh and More Cliff and Liza (have I mentioned them yet?)

4) My mind's not that devious when it comes to what else I would have done. It's all about marketing and this is where theCW failed itself as well as the viewers who have come to love and become devout.

I would have loved to have seen more advertising two weeks at least before all the major CW shows had gone for the summer. How about a nice section in the big CW booths at the local malls with HP? I've seen them all about Gossip girl how about throwing HP a bone?

It's as if Hidden Palms was set up to fail. We've peaked at 1.7 million viewers with very little effort at all. Imagine the possibilities. Also, trailers and spots that were longer than 30sec. And the whole 08nova spots weren't very affective at all.

Personally I think with a little tweaking Hidden Palms could be a breakout hit that would be fun paired with any other show or as a summer sizzler.

The CW needs shows like this fun, something maybe paired with Gossip Girl. Instead we have fans who moved from mourning over Veronica Mars to loving Hidden Palms only to be let down yet again with the news of cancellation. You'll have to excuse the letters, postcards, coconuts etc. I just happen to be one CW fan who wants Hidden Palms on Wednesday nights instead of The P-cat dolls dirty dancing into oblivion.

Chalk it up to wanting superb programming to go along with Supernatural/Smallville nights.

I hope the CW listens to us and gives HP the chance it deserves. When the WB took a chance on Williamson it ended up with Dawson Creek Gold. Take a chance again at least one more on Hidden Palms. That's all us fans are asking for.
