« Cheryl's Dancing with the Stars Blog

Back on the Dance Floor

Here we go again! It feels like just yesterday when I was anxiously standing by Emmitt's side waiting to hear our names called and be announced the winners of Season 3 of Dancing with the Stars.

It's been such a blur since last season's finale way back in November. I had about a week off, which I spent in Hawaii with my family, and then I immediately started rehearsal for the first-ever Dancing with the Stars tour. Thirty-eight cities in something like 10 weeks — maybe it was more, maybe it was less, I honestly can't remember at this point. We got to see so many places and faces around the country and performing four to five nights a week. We were traveling like rock stars — what a life!

Then in mid-February we started training for this current season of DWTS. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to get Ian as a partner. This is the first season of the show that I've actually been familiar with who my partner (Ian Ziering) was and didn't need to use the Internet to figure out why they were famous. I was such a huge Beverly Hills, 90210 devotee that I cried as a young girl if my mother wouldn't let me stay up late to watch it! Ian's feeding my fanaticism, too: He's given me a couple of vintage 90210 T-shirts that I now wear to rehearsals, and I've already told him that he has to have every original cast member sign the shirts for me before the end of DWTS!

On last week's show you got to see Ian and I perform our cha-cha. Four weeks of rehearsal, first out of the gates, and we got sevens. I was pleased with our scores. I'm convinced that the judges are always hardest on the first dancers so I had prepared myself for some harsh criticism, but I think their remarks were fair.

This week we're dancing the quickstep and I really think people are going to be impressed by Ian's moves. He's really working it this week. I'd tell you what our song is, but I'm going to let that be a big surprise. So tune in on Monday night, and don't forget to vote!

Quickstep must be a killer for the guys with size 12 shoes. I admire them for doing this. It's great fun to watch.

Cheryl: Great blog. Thanks for joining us and sharing your thoughts. I actually first saw Ian on Guiding Light when he played Cameron. I adored him then and now.

Best of luck to you and Ian. Looking forward to your next dance.

For real? This is so cool! I think I've become a bigger fan of yours than of any of the celebrities. Best of luck!! I'll be voting for you :)

Cheryl, This is really cool that you are doing this blog... you are my favorite professional dancer on the show because you always come up with the best choreograghy and you always follow the rules. You have a great attitude! I was looking at Tony's blog and it has a link to his website, which I really like. You should do a website too, it would be really great to be able to see something like that for you and Ian. :8}

Best of luck to you and Ian.

Hey Cheryl,

While I'm thrilled you're back for another season and dancing with Ian (that man hasn't aged since 90210, I swear!), I'm torn!!!! Ack! The first season I've been torn about who to root for.

I have another favorite couple on the show (forgive me). My hope is that you and Ian come out on top in the long run but I'm hoping that this other couple gives you both a run for the money!

Good luck!

Cheryl, I do think you are a great dancer, and I loved 90210 also, but it is never fun watching the same person win over and over again. I think you have a good personality and are cute as a button, but I also think you have been very fortunate (like one of the judges said) to have been paired with good personalities, sometimes very well know personalities, and I wish someone else (one of the other professional dancers since you are ALL amazing) would get a break. Good luck to you and Ian. I think you have a good chance of winning again because you are paired with a sweet, popular, agile, and good looking guy, but I will be voting and cheering for at least two other couples simply because I am tired of you winning.

gowill, ever think that part of why Cheryl wins and winds up with partners that can dance is because she's a good teacher?

Yes, admittedly there is some luck to getting people who aren't complete trainwrecks out of the gate. And luck to getting people willing to work hard.

But I also think that what a lot of people don't realize is that Cheryl is the one responsible for teaching these celebs what they know. So therefore if Drew, Emmitt and now Ian come out of the gate looking polished week after week, a lot of that has to do with the fact that they are being well trained by their pro--namely Cheryl.

It's not just a simple case of luck. Teaching and choreographing routines that play to your partners strengths have a lot to do with it as well.

That being said, good luck Cheryl and Ian. You have some formidable competition this season.

I didn't say it was all luck, so next time read before you post, and pay attention. I gave Cheryl credit for being a great teacher and dancer. I also gave her credit for being sweet and very likable and wished her luck. But she is not the only great dancer on the show or the only likable dancer on the show. Good luck Cheryl and Ian once again from a fan, but I'm just ready for something different. Stay sweet Cheryl and don't let your cocky fans ruin the genuine and kind person that you seem to be.

Wow, I did not insult you directly, so thanks for taking it there. I did read your post. Just pointing out that I think it's shortchanging Cheryl to say so much of her success is based on luck.

Notice I also didn't say that I was even decided as to who I'm voting for. That depends on who dances best week to week.

All the pros on this show are great dancers or they wouldn't be here. But not all are able to get the best out of their students, no matter how talented. Great dancing and great teaching are two completely different entities all together.

blah, blah, blah...enjoy the show, and may the most polished celebrity dancer win regardless of who their professional partner may be.

I kind of understand where gowill is coming from. I've always liked Ian from his 90210 days, and he seems to be an okay dancer, but I won't be voting for him. I did vote for Drew/Cheryl and Emmitt/Cheryl last time, but I've found that I don't want a 3-peat champion.

Nothing against Cheryl. I feel the same way about Roger Federer. He may be the #1 pro tennis player, and a great guy (from what I've read), but I get tired of his winning all the time.
