« Brian's Office Blog
The Best Day of My Life
I have done a lot of blogging this summer. A lot. Of blogging. And I have read a lot of blog responses. Sometimes literally hundreds of responses. And in all of the blogging and discussion that has taken place regarding the webisodes... not one person got it right. Nobody guessed the Mystery of the Missing Money (MMM, for the coolios). Maybe the writers and I should audition for CSI. They could write the stories and I could crack the cases. Like I did in today's webisode. Do you think we could get as many viewers to watch if the mysteries were harder to solve? That is a mystery all its own.
So anyway, my point about that is: nanny-nanny, pooh-pooh. For all of you who said it was Michael, or Dwight, or Stanley, or Creed, or Toby, or me... well, you were wrong. And so by my logic, I was right. I love being right.
You know what this means? The webisodes are over. This was the first-ever originally created miniseries for online viewers (or, if you'd rather, OCMOV). What did you think? Should we try it again next year? Was it fun to see some original material? Yes, I know, I know, if you are a fan of the show, "they were too short." But there are many computer technobabble things that require the clips to be short. Like bandwidth and jpegs. And in addition, if we could afford the time to make the clips longer, then we would just shoot some more episodes. So you decide: a success or a failure? And if you say you just want to see more Steve Carell, yeah, well, don't we all.
So the OCMOV is over, and this means the summer is over. Back-to-school time. And this means that the television season is starting. And The Office will now be back on the air with all-new original episodes. Two weeks from today, to be exact.
Break out Meredith's whiskey bottle, 'cause this one will be a doozy.
No repeats tonight. Next week will be a repeat of "Casino Night," followed by the season premiere on September 21, entitled "Gay Witch Hunt."
So be good, and peace. Now get back to work.

Umm... I think you mean the premiere episode is "Gay Witch Hunt," but you're excused. Loved the idea of and the actual webisodes, but a little disappointed in the ending. Reminded me of my Intro. to Accounting class though. Loved getting to see more of the secondary cast. Can't wait for my September 21 "Office" party!!

Re: webisodes -- It was nice to have something "Office" related to look forward to each Thursday during the break. I'd be lying, of course, if I didn't admit that what we're all really waiting for is a resolution to the question that's been haunting us all summer ... when are Kevin and Stacy getting married?

I think the webisodes were a big success. Yes, they were short. But it was great to get some new material every week, while all the other shows were repeat city. It's especially nicely timed in that we get new webisodes until this week, then next week we get the season 2 DVDs, and the following week we get the season 3 premiere.

Rumor has it that "Casino Night" will be the supersized version. Will NBC let us know so we can set up our TiVo's for the extended time?! 14 days! 14 days! 14 days! 14 days! 14 days! 14 days! 14 days! 14 days!

I thought it was "Gay Witch Hunt," but if the show is about someone getting gay with Hunt, whoever Hunt is, that's fine by me.

I definitely enjoyed getting to see the new material each week; it kept me from going into full Office withdrawl over the summer. I thought the final webisode was funny, and it was nice that Rainn made a hilarious appearance. I loved that all the great supporting characters got to shine for awhile, especially Kevin. I can't wait for new episodes!

The answer to your question is SUCCESS! I enjoyed all the webisodes. The best thing about them was...YOU! No, I promise I'm not a stalker. I just love your deadpan, sly grin sense of humor. I'm sorry that the webisodes are over, but am eagerly looking forward to September 21.
Have so much enjoyed your blog. Will this be continuing?

I enjoyed the webisodes. Like others have said, it gave us some new material to look forward to during the summer to make that time between season finale and season premier seem a bit shorter. And the webisodes may have helped me get a co-worker more interested in the show-last week I showed her the first 9 and she was laughing the whole time!

On the contrary, Carell is great and the more the better, but I want to see more of you. So do a lot of other people.
You've probably got a resume a mile long full of great accomplishments, some of which you prepared for diligently and for extensive amounts of time. But you know what? These webisodes showcased your talent like nobody's business. They make the case why you deserve more screen time.
If Greg Daniels doesn't get that, then you should just walk. Quit. Be done with them all. You don't need that disrespect.
Just kidding. Don't do that. Just keep being funny, and they won't dare take the cameras off you.

The webisodes were great. For 10 weeks of the summer while other shows faded from our minds, the Office was kept on the tips of our tongues. It's a win-win for both the network and the fans. To keep your brand in the spotlight all summer is invaluable. More please!

More webisodes? In Kev-speak, um, yeah, that would be nice! Just don't wait til the end of the season, get Paul started on this right away. I don't even need a continuous theme like "looking for missing money." How about Kevin making phonecalls about his own impending nuptials? Orange invitations Kev.

Brian, hi. As far as the webisodes, this is what I posted on theofficeforum.net about them:
"I'm just wondering if we scrutinized every two minute interval of every episode would they hold up better than the webisodes?"
"Well, yeah, actually a lot probably would. But a good number would not. My point being that in the context of a whole episode, we forgive a moment here and a moment there that is not as incredible as the episode as a whole, hardly noticing we're doing that."
"But, and this shows my bias for this show and everyone involved with making it, I love the webisodes even when they're not the greatest two minutes of TV ever. They've all had good moments; and some have been gems start to finish -- even if you disagree about which ones those are. And they are bonuses. I know they're not really gifts from friends; they are some NBC marketing people's idea of how to experiment with using the web to maintain veiwers over the summer. But I like to think of them as little presents from my dear friends at The Office. Little handmade gifts! Oven mitts, if you will! True, some are better knitted than others, but they're handmade for us, for crying out loud!"
That's how I feel.

I really enjoyed the webisodes, but I do have to mention something that I notice no one mentions in the blog - the NBC Fall Season Premier show featuring - yep you guessed it - the cast of the Office! It was very well done and had some extremely funny lines - Michael, after getting a new 13" plasma installed in his bedroom decides to have a viewing party - with invitations that say "thirteen inches in my bedroom"....telling Pam to invite everyone - except Toby...while Toby is standing right there....great stuff. Sure its not new episodes but kinda like a nice little snack to tide you over before a big meal.....for those who missed it - if I am not mistaken I thought I heard that it can be seen on NBC On Demand...
