Charles Lane celebrating his 100th birthday
For the past few days we've discussed great actors and actors who have enjoyed long careers. I'd like to continue in the same vein and recognize The Character Actor.

Their names may not be blazed above the title on the marquee, but we would miss them if they weren't there. They are often the unsung actor, known only by their peers and a few fans of the cinema or small screen. They are often the column or beam that helps to hold up a picture and often will be referred to as someone who stole a picture. They work in conjuncture with the stars and are often the best buddy, best girlfriend, villain, boss or policemen.

Through this blog I will post pictures and give clues to the identity of these womderful Character Actors. And I will be sure to this time to number the pictures so it will be easier to identify your answers to what questions.

I dedicate this blog to Mr. Charles Lane who passed away at the ripe old age of 102 Monday.

And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour

I tried to teach a nasily "actress" how to pronounce her "R" in one of the greatest dance movies of all time from the 50s.

Can you name the film and the actress?

You've seen me on the Dick Van Dyke Show, I dream of Jeannie, MacIvyer, and Married with Children

Hi there, Rev! How ya doin' today? I think of you often.

As to your puzzlers all the faces are familiar but I am only able to take a guess at #3. Is that Sam Jaffe, Dr. Zorba from Ben Casey? I don't recall the opening lines, assuming I am right so far. All I do remember is those symbols and that lazy 8 for infinity.

That Charles Lane was such a good curmudgeonly kind of guy. I always loved seeing him in anything.

#5 - Holiday Classic - Is it "It's a Wonderful Life"?

#6 is Uncle Jesse from Dukes of Hazard fame - I do not remember his real name but he played a mean jar of moonshine on The Andy Griffith Show as Charlene's Father who kept trying to get Andy to marry his daughter.
