Eric Kripke Scores 2-Year Warner Deal
Variety reported this morning that our buddy Eric has secured a two-year exclusive production development deal with Warner Bros. Television. Under the deal, he will continue to produce and showrun Supernatural, while also developing new series ideas.
Variety even enjoys speculating a bit slyly on what might be in the offing, or not: "There's no word if one of the new titles might be a Supernatural spinoff; Kripke has said in the past that he's interested in doing a prequel of sorts that takes place in the Old West and centered on the show's mythology."
This is cool news because it's a vote of confidence by one of the industry majors for our favorite magnificent bastard (always said fondly, that!). It must be noted that this is not a guarantee that Supernatural will get its fifth season, however: that still relies on the CW (a) surviving and (b) renewing it again. {I have every confidence in the latter!)
Here's the source and full article.

This is great news. Kripke has said before in several interviews that his intention for "SUPERNATURAL" is for the show to go for a five year run. I have never liked hearing that, because that would mean that we would only have two years of Sam & Dean left! I could really get behind a western version (like Firefly) where the early Winchesters were battling demons way back with the likes of Samuel Colt!

Yay! Mary,
that's some good news for our favorite MB! I wish him all the best in his future endevours. I'm confident that he will get to finish The Winchester's journey. [not that I want it to end... *sniffle*]

Thanks, Mary--That's exciting news! Whether it's the prequel idea or something else, I'm sure Kripke won't disappoint.

Thanks for advising Mary, that's really good news. I would sure love to see the guys in a Western type setting and since both of them have mentioned that they would like to do Westerns, well, you never know.
Did anyone happen to see the home page for TV Guide, Kripke has announced that Katie Cassidy's character of Ruby has been axed, due to financial restraints. That's such a shame.

If you think about it a prequel is the way to go. After all the Colt was designed and produced during the "Old West" time period, which means there were 'hunters' back then. And it's interesting, I suggested a crossover fan fic story on my Lancer and Supernatural groups. I think the CW knows it has a hit in Supernatural, so I'm betting it will see a 5th season.

Yay for Kripke!!
Kripke has announced that Katie Cassidy's character of Ruby has been axed, due to financial restraints. That's such a shame.
Damn, no I didn't see that!! That is a shame. I really liked Katie and Ruby. I wanted to learn more about her and her intentions. *sigh* I hope we can learn that in other ways. Stupid frickin' CW and their stupid frickin' budget!!

It's a great vote of confidence from WB for Eric. Go Eric! I'm sure whatever he does it will be cool. (OK, maybe Tarzan was a bit shaky, but hey, he's gotten a lot better since then!)
Old West would be fun, or a series focusing on some of the other hunter's we've heard about, but seldom/never have seen would be interesting, too.

I am really sorry about losing Ruby. I liked her a lot and was looking forward to learning more about her and her real intentions about helping Sam. These budget cuts are getting rediculous. What will be next?

Yay!!!!! for Kripke... but as to the news about Ruby, well, Katie is gone but the character can keep jumping bodies to avoid Lilith's attention.... ">...
If that happens it is purely coincidence, and if you're like Bobby, I claim ESP.....N that is....

Hi Mary! *waves* Did you see the pictures?
Thanks for the good news (about the extended contract)! These days any news about an extended contract seems to be good!
But I'm going to miss Ruby though. Finally learn a character's name and they boot her off. *$(#&!!!!

Wonderful news for The Kripke. Thanks for pointing it out, Mary. I hadn't been over to Variety yet today. Kripke has definitely proven to be a wonderful storyteller and I would love to see a western hunter - the story of Samuel Colt and the hunter he designed The Colt for originally would be awesome, as would his designing/building of that devil's trap The Boys opened.
*hopes*
Then again, anything he wants to do, I'll be happy to check out and enjoy.
Meanwhile ...
I liked Ruby! Darn financial constraints!
As much as I would have liked to see Katie and Ruby's continuation, logically we know that Lilith got rid of Ruby, and we know that Lilith left the body - so continuing with Katie was pretty much not going to happen, even though she did an amazing job that last episode, switching from Ruby to Lilith.
Plus ... I have to say ... given the choice between continuing with Katie and getting back more of our classic rock music - I'm gonna be going with the music!! Dean's gonna need it.
